The spine of the Andes forms the natural border between Argentina and Chile, and the highest peaks in the entire 5000-mile-long range are to be found here. For a tough trekking holiday in Argentina have a look at Aconcagua, the highest peak in the southern hemisphere, the highest in the western hemisphere, in fact the highest peak in the world outside the Himalaya-Karakorum region of Asia. Yet, in spite of its great height – 6962m (22,840ft) – Aconcagua requires no technical climbing skills, just a great deal of determination.

Further south you can find an easier but still satisfying walking holiday in Argentina in the depths of Patagonia.
