Fabulous holiday

Walking the Amalfi Coast is a fabulous trip and I highly recommend it!

Most Inspirational Moment

Views of the cities, towns, mountains, and coastlines during our treks.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Christine is awesome! She combines the best of being from the UK and relating to the travelers while also knowing the ins and outs of the region well, plus she's treated like a local. Listen to her advice - she speaks from experience.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Some thoughts... I went in October and we had great weather. I'd imagine the walks are much harder in summer heat... Bring a walking pole... Budget extra $$ to go to Capri and get the private driver (enjoy the convertible taxi).... Get out of the hotel for a meal or two to better experience the region. If you can, arrive early or stay late to visit a bit more of the region.

Walking the Amalfi Coast

I have just returned from Walking the Amalfi Coast. This was a really great holiday and I would really recommend it. The walks are all lovely, although they are not too long, they seem more difficult owing to the steepness of the terrain. You see beautiful scenery around the Amalfi Coast and also on the walk to Ravello. It is nice to see around Bomerano the village where the holiday is based, where they grow all kinds of vegetables and fruit and to see where cheese is made.

The hotel is a good standard and the staff really friendly and helpful. The food was really nice there.

I enjoyed getting to know all members of the group. We had a lot of fun and laughter together.

Everything!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Christine was a very enthusiastic group leader, she was very experienced and knowledgeable having led this trip over the last 9 years. She is friendly and approachable. It was clear from the greetings she received from staff in the hotel and people from Bomerano where the trip is based that she is very well thought about. This makes it easier for her to arrangements for the groups benefit. Christine worked hard to make arrangements for the benefit of the group eg transport for our free day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As in many of the reviews regarding this trip I would recommend bring a walking pole/poles, these are particularly needed owing to the steep steps, that are present in the majority of the walks. I would also recommend bringing waterproof walking trousers in case of rain. Luckily I didn't need these on the days that we walked, however I didn't see places where you could buy walking gear in this part of Italy.

Walking the Amalfi Coast

The holiday included 4 spectacular walks including the famous ‘path of the Gods’. The walks are only 6 to 7 miles long. What I did not appreciate was the steepness of this coastline. The land rises from sea level to over 2000 metres high in only a few miles. This gives walks clinging to edges wirh amazing views over the sea and coastline. It also means there is some quite strenuous walking with lots of steps on some days (2600 on one day). However, the pace is gentle and the phrase used is ‘do-able’. Visiring Pompeii and Versuvios was also amazing. Pompeii is huge and so much to see that having a guide was essential so that you could understand the history.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Valle de Ferrier walking from Amalfi to Ravello. Such a mix of interesting things from walking through Amalfi and seeing the Cathedral and tunnel walkways, to looking at the Nativity scenes along the way. The waterfalls in the valley were so beautiful that I agreed with our guide that we could be in a fairy glen. The plants and butterflies were gorgeous, the houses built into the cliff face and finally arriving in the beautiful town of Ravello and enjoying an iced coffee out of glasses with ceramic stems. (So beautiful were the glasses I bought one to bring home)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Christine was perfect as our leader. She knew what pace to keep so we all enjoyed the walks and did not feel left behind. Her knowledge of the area and the culture is extensive and she relate stories of the locals in a very interesting way. I would recommend her highly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is not a holiday for people who cannot cope with heights. Some of the walking is on paths with steep drops, though it is quite safe some people may struggle with the height. Also the nature of the walking means it is tough on the legs with the number of steps negotiated downhill. I recommend using walking poles.

If you don't climb the mountain you won't see the views...

The spectacular and memorable views that Mount Tre Calli has to offer is most certainly well worth the climb offering stunning views. In summary a great adventure which does not only come from me but also speaking for my side kick and good friend Michelle the Limoncello lady! The previous reviews in themselves from my fellow walking companions are weight and testament of the enjoyment had even though challenging in parts. We enjoyed all the walks, the smells as you walked, the chatting, followed by the drinking and eating, and most of all Limoncello.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walk of the gods and finishing up in the picturesque Positano a dream place for a well-deserved beer and swim followed by a scenic ferry ride along the coast back to Amalfi what a wonderful finish to the week and the Valle Delle Ferriere National Park and its natural landscapes . Apart from all the walks it had to be exploring the ruins of Pompeii in the morning and Mount Vesuvius in the afternoon. And most of all meeting some wonderful and interesting people.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paul was a very knowledgeable and an entertaining group leader who took time to engage with all members of the group we could not have had a better guide.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just book !!! all good worth it.

Just Around The Corner?????

This was the first holiday with Exodus and in fact the first holiday I have done of this type. Walking the Amalfi Coast was definitely the right choice to make, I can full appreciate why it is the most popular trip Exodus run. Based in a quite village surrounded by stunning scenery in an amazing county, as a group we could not have been made more welcome by everyone we encountered. Yes the walks were challenging but all were done at a leisurely pace and doable. There are three key factors that made this a wonderful week. The background work that Exodus have done. An excellent Group Leader. And most importantly the group dynamics, arrived as 16 strangers to leave as 16 friends in a week later.

Most Inspirational Moment

Every day was occupied with something I was determined to do and see, so despite an injury finishing the final walk and having a cold beer by the beach after completing every walk. This was only tainted by the fact it was the final walk.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had Paul as our group leader, who was extremely patient and understanding to everyone's needs. He had an excellent knowledge of the local area and good relationship with not only the hotel staff but members of the local community. Not an easy task but he looked after all of us for the week, I don't think we could have had a better guide.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Good walking shoes, that have been broken in and fit well. Make sure you have done some walking beforehand, hills and steps are a must. Reading the trip notes and actually understanding that there are a lot of steps both up and down. Its all worth it though.

Challenging but fun

Walking on the Amalfi cast is no stroll in the park. I knew before I booked that there were a lot of steps involved but I made the mistake of thinking they would all be downhill and evenly spaced – they’re not! However i’m delighted I went and quite proud of myself for completing all walks including round the crater of Vesuvius which is quite tricky to start with, and going down into the crater felt a bit scary. Well worth it though – It was my husband’s favourite part of the holiday. Stefan the Vesuvius guide is a real charmer too, and seems to create a magical effect with a cigarette – go and see for yourself! I loved the variety of this holiday, though the evening I hobbled down the stairs because my calves were screaming so much, I did wonder whether I was on holiday or at boot camp!

Most Inspirational Moment

Pompei and Herculeneum (which we visited on our day off) were places I had wanted to see since I was a child. They both exceeded my expectation. My only sadness was that we were so time restricted on both visits. The expanse of both sites, and how much remains, to be seen, is just incredible. The other truly inspirational moments involved members of the group . Foe example, despite a severe knee injury, Neil was determined to complete the main walks including 'walk of the gods' with it's ending of 2332 steps (and that didn't include the flights leading down to them! ) He did it too, without a moan. What a star.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paul is very patient, extremely good humoured, and enjoyable company. He even carried a couple of bottles of Prosecco on the Walk of the Gods' so we had a special treat on our final lunch stop. What a hero. A certain member of the group would have prefered Limoncello - so you may need to extend your range of drinks for future trips Paul!!! Despite the whines of 'are we nearly there yet', 'not more ******* steps, and 'can we just cut that part of the walk out', Paul managed to chivvy us all along with his reassuring phrase of 'just round the corner'. He lied but it was all in a good cause.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get into training on some hill walks, and forget using lifts - lots and lots of flights of stairs. Also, the better rooms of the hotel appear to be in the main building. Worth asking if you can get one. A couple of our group had this fore knowledge and had a balcony and fridge!

Walking on The Amalfi Coast

A great varied itenary taking in the best bits of the Amalfi coast. Plenty of challenge but very ‘doable’

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking to the top of the first walk and getting some breath taking views below. Walking to the top of Mount Vesuvius and seeing all the country spread out below.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Christine was very motivating and encouraged all to do as much as possible. It meant that it was a success for all.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You need a reasonable level of fitness to enjoy the challenge. Particularly doing the 2000 plus steps down to Amalfi.

walking the amalfi coast

An amazing holiday, scenery spectacular, walks took us through the most beautiful country side,we had views that were sensational. It is very hard to find the right words. This holiday gave us everything,
everything was excellent.

Most Inspirational Moment

Standing on top of the mountain looking over the Bay of Naples.sensational.Felt as if I owned the world.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Christine Rooney was our guide. What a fountain of knowledge. She is a very friendly person,we were at ease at all times. Ask a question, she had the answer, terrific. Local knowledge was great, she seemed to know everyone in the town, and they all liked her. All in all Christine is an amazing guide, very friendly and knowledgable, she made the whole trip a joy. she made everything "DOABLE"

Breathtaking views and too much food

The week walking in Amalfi struck the perfect balance of doing something out of the ordinary, but with minimum brain power required. Our fabulous guide Ale shepherded us along breath taking cliff walks, endless steps and even a thunder storm with expertise, humour and occasional bribes from his stash of sweets. The pedometer showed more than 150,000 paces at the end of the week (despite a rest day), so it’s testament to Italian hospitality that we all managed to put on weight!

Most Inspirational Moment

I will never forget walking round Vesuvius, away from the tourist trail. Panoramic views of the Bay of Naples on one side and steam rising from the depths of the volcano on the other.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take walking poles and plenty of tubigrips if you have dodgy knees. I'm so glad I took my waterproof - it nearly stayed at home. Most of the week was beautiful, but when it did rain it was torrential. I'd also recommend earplugs. The hotel and village were very peaceful, but the local cockerel had a serious pair of lungs.

Walking the Amalfi Coast

A wonderfully organised trip which meant that everyday we were seeing different parts of the stunning Amalfi Coast. The heat meant some of the walks were a little challenging to say the least, especially the steps which were frequent! The hotel due Torri was a lovely family run hotel in a great location with good facilities and great food and the staff couldn’t do enough for you. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others, in fact I already have! I will certainly be looking to book my next trip with Exodus.

Most Inspirational Moment

The famous walk of the Gods was our last walk of the week and it was beautiful. The boat trip that took us back from Positano at the end of the day allowed us to see exactly how much of the Coast we had walked. It was a pretty impressive sight!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alejandro was an excellent tour leader and was very knowledgeable about the local products and areas. He went out of his way to help those walkers who struggled a little more that others with the heat and the steps. Overall he went the extra mile to make sure we all had an unforgettable experience.
