Cycling the Dalmatian Coast

Excellent trip with an interesting bunch of people from all walks of life. We all had something to bring to the table.Had some great laughs and the leader was a good Captain guiding us to some amazing places.

Most Inspirational Moment

We visited Mijet and I loved it. The island was amazing and did some great swimming in the sea

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ana went over and above to meet all of the groups needs which were varied.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take padded shorts and a lot of change of clothes

Cycling the Dalmatian Coast

An amazing week of cycling and island hopping along one of the most beautiful coastlines in Europe. Brilliant local food, historic old towns and stunning coastal and mountain scenery to pedal through.

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving at the top of a long climb and having a long downhill to look forward to, followed by a dip in the sea to cool off.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was great, very knowledgeable and accommodating and always went above and beyond for everyone in the group. Great to have someone from the local area who understands all the best places to go.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Expect stunning scenery, some challenging hills and amazing local food.

Cycling the Dalmatian Coast

This was a great guided tour! Our days were very well planned and organized. The support vehicle was always there if we needed it. The group of 9 was just the right size. People were punctual and all about the same in athleticism, so not much waiting was required.

Most Inspirational Moment

Making it to the top of the 10 km hill! Also the day trip cycling through Mljet National Park. This was so incredibly beautiful and was an easy ride, after two difficult days of cycling. Lots of relaxing time and just enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Alan, was exceptional! He was friendly, helpful, encouraging, and very direct in his instructions. He gave a brief amount of history but not too much, was very accomodating with requests, and was an all-round gentleman.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is rated as "3" or "Moderate". I think it could easily be more difficult than that, but the bikes were in very good condition, and made the hills bearable.

Cycling the Dalmation coastal Islands

My first cycling holiday and thoroughly enjoyed it. A well humored group of 9 lead by Alan Skulic all going along at our own speeds.Bikes were very good with disc brakes.Suggest activity level 4 for the hill climbs on day 1 and 2 but we all got up them with nobody using the bus. Restaurants for lunch and evening meals were hand picked and very good although the one in Korcula took a long time to bring out the meals. Optional middle day, some went to Mjet island and the three Musketeers cycled to the next town Korcula for pizza and ice cream then back to the hotel pool and bar. We were spoilt by blue sky days which always enhance any trip. Final day in Dubrovnik was great with a walk around the city walls. Want to revisit Croatia and soon!

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of the hills! But you need to get to the top to enjoy the amazing long runs downs at speed through the hills with great views.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alan was a great guide and was really one of us, day and evening answering any questions on geography, politics and social subjects with enthusiasm and good humour. Very punctual and organised.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack light, may need a rain jacket but we were lucky. We took our own saddles which they are happy to fit for you. Practice some hill climbs before you go if not a regular cyclist like me. Plenty of cash machines around and we got better rates than UK changing Sterling cash for Kunas in hotel or bank.

Cycling the Dalmatian Coast

A fantastically well planned trip with enough challenges and excitement to suit all ages and abilities. Myself and my partner are moderate cyclists and found the trip to be everything we wanted and more. Our tour guide (Ana) took us to some amazing places and gave us a really cultured experience. With the most beautiful scenery imaginable and a really sustainable approach to travel. Whats not to love??

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling the 50k stretch along Hvar island and being overtaken by people twice my age! they were an inspiration!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ana was the perfect leader. She was confident, well organised and had a great sense of humour and adventure that got the whole group together and kept us all cycling.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take some padded shorts and a camera - The views are stunning!

Cycljng from Split to Dubrovnik

This is described as moderate but there are some long steep hills. Don’t let this put you off as the guide gets you all to the top. This is how you feel achievement. You can always hitch a ride in the van on the worst bit.

Most Inspirational Moment

We were not seasoned cyclists and didn't even own bikes but had gone "spinning" at the gymn. Therefore getting to the top of long hills was our great achievement.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ana Kunstek was our group leader. Ana was a strong leader and extremely organised and punctual. Because of this everything worked like clockwork. She picked great value hotels, not posh but good enough. She sought restaurants run by families to provide authentic home made food. Nothing was too much trouble q her. She had a great sense if fun and was great company. We felt safe with Ana.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are considering this holiday just do it. If the odd hill is too much get in the van for a while. Take padded cycling pants and a gel seat cover if you are softies like us. The scenery is stunning so pack your camera. We added a week in Dubrovnik after the cycling.

Cycling the Dalmatian Coast

This trip was a 12 out of 10. The group of 16 gelled very well. The ages ranged from the 30s to upper 70s.
The guide, Ana was very personable. We could travel at our own speed and there was plenty of time to savor our surroundings.

Most Inspirational Moment

Making it to the top of the long hills without dismounting.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ana was awesome. Very knowledgeable of the countryside. Knew all the good restaurants. Very personable.

Cycling the Dalmation Coast

Very enjoyable trip, expertly guided by Alan, taking in stunning scenery along pretty quite roads with great food and company along the way.

Most Inspirational Moment

Handling the climbs - I was a bit worried about those beforehand as I've never been on a cycling holiday before and don't go out with a cycling club at home

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent leader, very patient and attentive.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just go for it .

Must do cycle in your lifetime

The views, the hills, the people and the food all make for an amazing trip

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling up the 11.5 km hill in Hvar and reaching the top with a outstanding view of the Adriatic sea

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ana was amazing. She was one of the most organized persons I've met and went way out of her way to do extra stuff for the group

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring cushioned seats

MVJ Cycling the Dalmatian Coast

I am an experienced Exodus traveller, and this was my 16th trip. The invitation to review was addressed to my husband Robin (Robert), and I am completing the Review as Amanda Hubbard as I just wanted to say that this trip was one of the best. The cycling was indeed moderate and there was always space in the van to sit out a hill. There were plenty of opportunities to visit such ancient towns as Split, Havar and Korcula and to sightsee and swim in the clear sea. There were coffee breaks and the food was excellent with great lunch stops and dinners at well chosen restaurants at night. Plus our guide, Marko Mitic, was top-rate – as were Michele on our Sardinian bike trip and Radu in Tuscany. So if you want to cycle and really see the Dalmatian Coast, book this holiday.
But do pay attention to the warnings about Croatian hotels in the Trip Notes. They are a little better than Cuban hotels but comparable. Our rooms at the hotel at Jelsa (where we arrived tired from our journey at about 11pm on our first day) were very inconvenient to access and others in our group remarked on the septic tank smell!!! But the beds were comfortable and the view and swimming incomparable. The second hotel at Lumbarda was comfortable and fun and the Dubrovnik hotel was in a restful location.

Most Inspirational Moment

Every day was inspirational - I didn't want the holiday to end. 1.When we arrived we drove to Split, walked round the port and the UNESCO Diocletian Palace, where we had dinner and then boarded the ferry (the terrific thunder storm at sea was great fun). This was a taste of the "delights" to follow! 2.The beauty of the rugged and rocky Dalmatian coasts and the charming little villages nestled along the coastlines. We were island hopping taking numerous ferries and our excellent driver got us everywhere on time. Particularly enjoyed the cycle rides (often through vineyards - there was even a tunnel!) around the islands of Hvar, Korcula, and Mljet, although a couple of gravel roads were a challenge for me - but one can get off the bike. 3. The architecture, charm and beauty of the Stari Grads of Hvar, Korcula and Dubrovnik and the history. Loved the walk round Dubrovnik town walls and the views of the now repaired rooftops and the sea - best done early in the morning. The bus trips into town were fun and even getting lost! 4. The fresh food and restaurants, especially the Konoba Mate at Pupnat, the organic lunch stop on the second day at the top of a hill overlooking the island of Brac and the restaurant down a backstreet in Dubrovnik, where we had our farewell dinner. And the Posip white wine of Korcula is DELICIOUS. Drinking this was perhaps my most inspirational moment(s) of the trip!!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Charming, courteous and considerate of the group's needs. And very well organised and social. He supported and helped all 13 of us equally and accompanied us to the Airport at the end of the trip. I had 2 flat tires (back and front) and he changed each one efficiently. The second flat tire he noticed at an intersection, where he was waiting to make sure we took the correct turn, on a very steep road down to the sea - I was lucky! All 13 of us got on very well - which seems to happen on cycling tips and we had some good laughs. It was great that we had 2 Americans and 1 Canadian on the trip. And one of the most amusing moments, was when we were cycling back along the coast to Lumbarda on Korcula and we were overtaken by a group of very fast cyclists - they were on electric bikes! I couldn't understand why I was so slow until I realised.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip might not be suitable for avid cyclists. Even I, as an older, slightly anxious cyclist found the cycling rather too easy. We were always warned about the hills, but they were nothing compared with Sardinia and Tuscany, also classed as moderate holidays. Marko did allow one of our group to cycle independently at times, but he was the fastest and the only one who wanted to. Our optional day on the island of Mijet was fun, but the hordes of tourists made this my least favourite day. My guide book (NOT trip notes) said there were no cars, but there were lots. And it was not as relaxing as Hvar and Korcula. The swim was great though and my advice is to bring sandals or shoes to swim in as there are lots of sea urchins everywhere along the rocky coast and few sandy beaches. And if you are over 70 the Park entrance fee is less! Just enjoy the fabulous views, coastline, ancient towns and particularly the Posip wine! Travelling by bike is a great way to see Croatia.
