Adventure in Andalucia

The Level 2 tour in Andalucia, and it was nothing short of incredible!

Most Inspirational Moment

One of the highlights for me was walking the El Caminito del Rey, which offered stunning views and a real sense of achievement on this hiking tour. The accommodation was very relaxing, with dinner outside every night. We enjoyed the stunning sunsets while listening to music.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide was outstanding, with deep knowledge of local town history and wildlife. Michael organization made the trip smooth and enjoyable, adding a fun and educational dimensions to each day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Embrace the opportunity to relax in the breathtaking Spanish countryside, soaking in the stunning views. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a holiday wanting to take a break away from technology and opportunity to meet some amazing fellow travelers.

Amazing trip

This trip was very well organised in every way. The scenery was stunning and the accommodation and food were excellent

Most Inspirational Moment

Standing in front of a 360 degree panoramic view of the Andalucian countryside

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Michael was excellent. A lovely guy who sorted everything out for us. His knowledge of the history, fauna and flora of the area where amazing.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take good walking shoes, hat, sunscreen and plenty of water bottles

A Most Enjoyable Week

I can’t fault anything about the holiday. The accommodation was good, the staff friendly and helpful, the meals excellent and my dietary needs catered for. The added bonus was the swimming pool at the end of a hot day’s hiking. Our group was small and the majority of us got on amazingly well together. The walks were varied and interesting with the chance to visit several villages along the way.

Most Inspirational Moment

I enjoyed all the walks equally. I visited Ronda on our "day off" and found it stunning.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michael was excellent. He knew everything about the local wildlife, plants and history which added so much to the holiday. He was well organized and always on time, as well as being friendly approachable and good fun to be with.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book and enjoy!

A week in Andalucia

Fantastic trip, a very small group of 7
Being small everyone had the opportunity to walk and talk and to get to know one another

The villa had a lovely feel to it, Phillipe and his wife made you feel at home, with delicious home cooked food every evening.

Most Inspirational Moment

I enjoyed it all, took the optional trip to Ronda, which I was inspired by beautiful Spanish town with Roman ruins, piazza to sit in, watch the horse draw carriages, old men playing bowls and sip on you Cava.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michael was a great source of information and lead the walks with plenty of stops for water and a breather!! Delt with some stressful situations and gave up his day off to do so.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Embrace everything would highly recommend this holiday.

Amazing scenery and great walks

This was one of the best trips I have been on with Exodus. The accommodation was incredible and we all felt like it was home. The food amazing, the bedroom although small was homely. The staff so friendly. The drivers of the mini bus were always on time picking us up and the whole trip went like clockwork.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking through the wild flowers and the Camino del Rey gorge. Each day was different and very enjoyable with beautiful and striking scenery.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Miguel (Michael) was so knowledgeable especially about the plants and birds of prey. He even organised a tapa lunch for us in Seville although it was his day off. Friendly and helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do take some warm clothing if going in early May. Unfortunately the weather although sunny was cooler, ideal for walking but not for sitting at the pool. You don’t need to bring your own tea and coffee as this is provided free with biscuits. You just help yourself.

Spring Walk in Andalucia

This trip leans more toward moderate walking rather than leisurely due to the terrain which is quite rocky.
The weather the week I was there was clear, sunny, and warm. The countryside was filled with beautiful spring flowers which offset some of my disappointment in the general scenery and the walks through pasture lands where it was sometimes difficult to navigate holes hidden by grass, limestone outcroppings, and cattle paddies.
The Cortijo Rosario was lovely and the staff very welcoming and accommodating. The dinners were very good and the staff very obliging to dietary requests without sacrificing taste or portions of substituted dishes. The only hiccup as far as our stay was being without hot water one evening. I would not mention it as we made do, and no one seemed upset over it, including myself, but I have read in other reviews that the same thing has happened.
Algámitas is a very rural village with very few businesses (take what you will need), but the couple of times we made pre-hike morning stops for coffee at two of the cafes there were nice.

Most Inspirational Moment

Two moments: We had a lovely and delicious picnic set up for us at the monastery of Caños Santos on Day 3. This was a peaceful respite after our walk from the Cortijo. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the Caminito del Rey on Day 6. Our guide made sure we beat the crowd and I am grateful for that. We were able to walk it at our own pace, stopping as much as we wanted for photos and to admire the El Chorro gorge.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michael was a good and knowledgeable (history, plants, wildlife) guide who set an appropriate walking pace for our group. He aptly timed quick rest stops and photo stops and was good at pointing out birds, plants and features we might be interested in and might have missed otherwise. He knows many of the locals so we were often warmly greeted along our way. I found him to be encouraging and supportive, showing each of us interest and a good sense of camaraderie.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I advise you use hiking shoes/boots and sturdy trekking poles. I used poles from the Cortijo but someone had theirs shipped beforehand. I also wore trail runners which I always hike in and they were fine, but I did wish I had brought my boots. Be sure to have what you need because there are not many places to shop until you go to Seville or Ronda. Most importantly, make sure you are in good enough physical shape to do the walks safely.

Fantastic holiday

Excellent trip with a variety of terrain and something different to offer every day. As described, it’s a grade2 level, with leisurely/moderate walking.
The accommodation is homely and comfortable, the food great quality and variety, and the staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. There’s also a very reasonable honesty bar!

Most Inspirational Moment

Can't choose- every day had it's inspiring moment. The National Park was amazing, but what was unexpected was the mind blowing display of wildflowers at this time of year (April 20-27) on all walks. The walk through the oak wood and meadows day 4 was particularly memorable for the wildflowers, followed by the tapas picnic at the monastery, and then the visit to Setenil with the cave houses. We also saw so many birds of prey throughout the week- vultures, rare eagles etc which Miguel quickly identifies and lends you his binoculars!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Miguel inspired us all to embrace everything Andalusian with his expert knowledge of the fauna, flora, history and people. He led the walks at the right pace and pointed out so many things each day. He gave excellent advice , especially restaurants and bars in Seville and Malaga. Exodus is very fortunate to have him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are into bird watching, bring your own binoculars. Have a wander round the village on your own late afternoon. We revisited the bar where we had coffee on day 4 the other side of the village. We were instantly recognised and welcomed, and either side of us had guys passionately playing dominoes!

Great holiday

Excellent walking over varied ground and in different environments, great accommodation and food and lovely hosts

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking in the Grazalema National park

Thoughts on Group Leader

Brilliant - shared extensive knowledge of flora and fauna worked really hard to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Set a sensible pace for the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do pack footwear suitable for some rough tracks and terrain

Enjoyable but hot walks in a lovely part of Spain

Varied walks in a beautiful landscape, some testing steep uphill sections (particularly on the “gentle” Day 2 walk) given the high temperatures at the beginning of the week.
Comfortable farmhouse with spacious public rooms. Pleasant and accommodating staff. Good breakfasts, delicious varied dinners and packed lunches.

Most Inspirational Moment

Loved the Day 3 Sierra de Grazalema and Day 6 with the El Caminito del Rey and optional Ronda visit. The optional Seville tapas lunch organised and selected by Michael was exceptional. The tapas lunch on Day 2, while enjoying (and in some cases participating in) the Flintstone festival, was also delicious.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michael was very approachable and informative, sharing his knowledge about the local area and people, the flora and fauna, tips for enjoying El Caminito del Rey and comprehensive and helpful arrangements or tips for the occasions where he was not present (Seville and Ronda).

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are a keen photographer, the pace of the walks does not fully allow you to indulge in your hobby. There were a few occasions where I paused to take photos, only to see the group disappearing round a bend some way ahead. However, it was always possible to catch up at the intermediate rest stops. The optional visits to Seville Alcazar, the Seville Tapas lunch and Ronda were very enjoyable and worthwhile. Tell Michael if you would also like to visit Seville Cathedral. We had a few mosquitos in our room in spite of the dry heat, so bring some insect repellent. Worth looking at suggestions from earlier reviews on coffee, electrical points etc which I found useful.

Springtime in Andalucia

A top notch guided hiking trip to amazing Andalucia staying in a comfortable “cortejo” with excellent food

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent, one of the best ever
