Leon is the intellectual capital of Nicaragua – a pastel-hued colonial city boasting excellent universities, art museums, historic landmarks and plenty of cultural events to keep you entertained.

Nicaraguan culture: A legacy of the revolution is the spirit of the people; friendly, fiery, political and passionate about social justice, they’ll add life and spice to any adventure holiday in Nicaragua. Eat traditional food from street stalls: dishes of creamy curd, blackened plantain bananas, mango sprinkled with chilli and sticky barbecue chicken.

3. San Juan del Sur: Here there are a dozen or more glorious beaches where you can enjoy views of the crashing Pacific from a Tiki bar or luxury hotel.

My first cycling trip ever and being only a recreational cyclist i was a bit worried if i’d keep up, but i worried needlessly! Anyone with a good level of fitness and the right mindset will be fine. It was humid, wet, hilly and challenging on times, but we all kept up and altogether it was a great adventure and the downhills, wildlife and scenery more than made up for it.

Cycling in the heat, humidity, tropical rain with abundant wildlife with great company, a few cheeky climbs, and relax after in a pool, a gin and good grub. What’s not to like?!!
I’ve only rated it 4 as I am a fussy client and although pre-warned about Costa Rica highways, I was a bit disappointed, and also only one welcome drink in hotels. I expected too much for the cost of the tour in comparison to other tours but that is probably due to cost of petrol over such a distance and return, and 3 bike hires.
