Wonderful Country!

Costa Rica lived up to all of my hopes & expectations, a truly beautiful & varied country

Most Inspirational Moment

Each stop was totally different from the last, so lots of variety. Absolutely loved the hotel at Rio Perdido, truly a special place, and relaxing in the natural thermal river was wonderful

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was Randall, a very special guide. Was always cheerful, and wanting us to get the very best from our trip. His knowledge was absolutely astounding, and couldn’t wait to share this with us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Some of the road journeys could be long and bumpy, however the changing landscapes and destinations made it worthwhile

Kerala

Southern Indian trip. Tea Plantations, Temples, Backwaters cruise.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hike in the Munnar Tea Plantations was breathtakingly beautiful. Temple in Madurai, interesting. Shikara boat trip was fun & interesting. Backwater cruise was the best experience and very relaxing. Exta excursion Hindu temple Suchindran worth a visit!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Biju as highlighted in previous reviews was excellent, went the extra mile to ensure our holiday was a perfect and memorable experience.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Very leisurely, lots of free time. Hike in the Tea plantations is not for the unfit or those with limited walking ability.

Costa Rica

Very organised trip with a very knowledgeable guide who would adapt the itinerary to suit the group.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the abundance of wildlife in their natural habitat.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I could not fault Johnny.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As this was a grade 1 walking holiday in the dry season do not get carried away with clothing and footwear and the mosquitoes were not the problem I thought they might be.

Great holiday

Loved every minute of this trip. The animals, birds, insects and scenery are amazing.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting up early to see the quetzals.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Pablo was the best. His attention to detail was spot on. He was very caring and always happy to go the extra mile for us. Ronald, our driver deserves a mention too - very skilful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don’t forget your binoculars. It’s useful to have an umbrella. Take lots of bug spray and anti-itch cream.

Outstanding taste of three countries.

A brief but fulfilling experience of Thailand , Cambodia and Vietnam through well chosen sites , cycle routes and expert guides.

Most Inspirational Moment

All of the sites visited were fascinating but none of them would have been brought alive without the exceptional support of local guides and outstanding interaction from the group leader. The history and culture of each country would have been an overwhelming amount of detail to research without their succinct and poignant commentary.

Thoughts on Group Leader

An outstanding individual who went above and beyond to support , advise and gel with the group from start to finish.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack light and either brook the cost of using ATM’s or risk wasting unused local currency. Taking Sterling is pointless and dollars / cards are not always usable.

Full on tour of main sights in the north

Its an excellent introduction to the wonderful sights, smells and colours of India.

Most Inspirational Moment

I enjoyed our stay in the village, staying in a heritage hotel and it felt like the real India. I loved the food .

Thoughts on Group Leader

Vivek is an excellent tour leader going out of his way to make sure we all enjoyed our trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a full on tour with quite a bit of driving, but there is so much to see from the minibus.

A good trip, but some things to be aware of.

The trip was great, but some of the roads are very busy with scary traffic which sometimes feels quite aggressive.
Most evening meals were at hotel buffets, as the hotels used were a way outside towns. The food quality was good, but it got a bit repetitive.
There was a lot more riding on unpaved rough roads than the trip notes says.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader, Ruwan, was excellent and very knowedgeable about wildlife, plants and history of the country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are not used to busy roads, or riding off-road, get some practice in.

Beautiful Scenery and Fantastic Wildlife

This was a great trip overall. You really got to see the country, including the amazing red sand dunes, the Skelton coast and of course wildlife in Etosha National Park. This did mean that there were some long drives, but this all felt part of the adventure. We had a fantastic group and the accommodation was spot on in all places.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were so many amazing moments including: climbing Dune 45 in the early morning before seeing the otherworldly views of Deadvlei, watching for wildlife and spotting Zebra and Spring Boks at the small watering hole just behind our lodges near Solitaire, seeing the milky way and shooting stars on several clear evenings and of course seeing so much amazing wildlife on the game drives and around the watering holes in Etosha National Park. The amount of wildlife we saw really exceeded our expectations.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide Omumborombonga (Sam) was fantastic. He really went above and beyond, sorting out any small issues, driving the truck and giving us a real insight into the country. In particular, in Etosha National Park he did extra games drives when he had heard that Lions were close by and ensured we had every opportunity to see as much as we could. This was to the point where we did not need to pay for any additional game drives as we saw so much. He was also relaxed and flexible in his approach.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We were there in July and you defo needed some warm clothes with you. Also be aware that in some places it took a while for the food to arrive once you had ordered, so maybe have a pre-dinner snack if you get hangry!!

good title

Very varied scenery and wildlife. good amount of adventure with lots of different activities

Most Inspirational Moment

Swimming with turtles

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent

Advice for Potential Travellers

look closely at details

Discovering Costa Rica

Great itinerary. All the major habitats covered. Liked that we had two days in each hotel, as a lot of travelling involved. Our guide went above and beyond, up every day at 0600 for a walk for those that wanted to spot birds and other animals with the dawn chorus. Note that our guide was flexible about what was done in each location and on the days of travel.

Most Inspirational Moment

Well the 16 zip lines around the cloud forest at Monteverde (two @ 1km long), plus a Tarzan swing was great fun, and seeing the Resplendent Quetzal on three separate occasions (not easy!!) was quite amazing, and the huge numbers of Frigate Birds at Tarcoles were just astounding. The hotels/lodges at Monteverde, Savagre and Tamarindo were outstanding. Overall the experience of the jungle at the lodge at Esquinas and the two optional night walks was maybe the standout. (two separate sightings of the 'ultimate viper' the Fer de Lance and lots of cute frogs) But really the whole tour was great for us, everyone will have a different favourite place.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was Pedro. A great guy. Went above and beyond, interesting, informative, flexible, easy to chat to, knowledgeable. Don't see how he could have been better.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There is not a lot to do in San Jose. If you fly out early as we did, one full day in the City Centre is probably fine for some self guided walking tours, visit to the market (quite functional, not really a tourist destination), a guided tour of the Theatre, well worth doing, and a visit to the Gold Museum (underground in the square, next to the Theatre). Probably don't join a tour to visit outwith the City, as you may find some of these tours will be revisited as you travel around with your Exodus guide. If you do the Tamarindo extension at the end, the Capitan Suizo hotel is the best - at the end of the beach away from the noisier town, great hotel, only 35 rooms, as many staff (super helpful) as clients. But not if on a budget! It was suggested to us that Tamarindo would be busy and noisy. For anyone worried about this, it is absolutely not Magaluf, certainly busier than other places apart from San Jose, but where we were at the Suizo was very relaxing, quiet (the centre of town and that end of the beach is busier, but not excessive), lovely beaches, wildlife (howler monkeys in the hotel grounds, cuckoo jays, pelicans etc etc). We even saw a humpback whale and brown boobies just offshore (try a Sunset Tour on a catamaran). BUT NOTE timings about how long the Bus transfer takes from San Jose to Tamarindo are hopelessly optimistic. Our transfer took 6 and a half hours including pickups near the airport after we were picked up at our hotel, a stop halfway to transfer passengers to other buses/toilet break, and dropping off folks at hotels, some not even in Tamarindo. Coming back was better with a private transfer, but just to the airport (not City centre) took 5 hours, including a stop for a drink/toilet. The roads in Costa Rica are not good, consider a private transfer or plane transfer, (which another couple with us did), and only takes 35 minutes as well as being (apparently) a wonderful flight with the local airline Sansa. To repeat, this is not a great road journey. We did consider flying back from Tamarindo, but had too much luggage weight (you need to know you're going to fly internally and travel light due to the weight restriction on the small planes they use - check the limit in advance)
