MT TOUBKAL CLIMB

A great trip for those who like to stretch their muscles amid stunning backdrops. The walks varied in length and steepness, but were very achievable with a good starting level of fitness. Lots of fun being in a group, with constant chatter and altitude-induced fits of giggles!

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing Toubkal was an obvious highlight - the steady trip up, the views from the top, and the scree running on the way back down. The mountains were beautiful, and the sunsets and stars also spectacular. We also had some great meals cooked for us on the road, and exploring the local food stalls on the last afternoon in Marrakesh gave us some unusual culinary experiences!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mohamed was an excellent leader - patient, friendly and organised. He kept the group together well.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for dorms, early starts and the occasional tepid shower... but when approached with the right spirit, it all adds to the experience. Also - buy proper walking socks. They're the best!

PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI

Fantastic location deep in the bush. The camp is unfenced so we had the wildlife 24/7 and as this is a photographic safari you can stay with the animals, if they are doing something interesting – you’re not racing from beast to beast with a tick list!

Most Inspirational Moment

On the last morning we found a cheetah beneath a thorn bush with two week-old cubs. To watch them and then to see her stalk off a howling jackall was a real taste of 'wild Africa'

Thoughts on Group Leader

So entertaining and yet brilliant at helping us to take good photos. Anyone who has been on a holiday with Paul Goldstein will know exactly what I mean!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack sun block, insect repellant, plenty of memory cards and batteries plus anything you could take to boost your energy levels!

A TASTE OF CUBA

Very good programm, the guide was excellent.

Most Inspirational Moment

visit with the catamaran to an island

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it!

MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES OF EVIA

We really enjoyed this trip to an unspoilt region of Greece where there were very few foreign tourists. We had good company, good food and Mythos beer.

Most Inspirational Moment

The beach at the end of the Demosaris Gorge was spectacularly wild and scenic and like other beaches that week, completely empty. The marble columns at the quarry on Mt Ohi looked as if the Romans had just recently abandoned them and were in a wonderful setting.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Roger was a capable organiser, had sound knowledge of the island and was good company both on the walks and in the evenings when we all went out together.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for a full days travelling both to get there and to get back. This is because of the difficulty in matching plane times to local buses to ferry sailings. It is a price worth paying to get to a resort off the usual tourist track

RODOPI MOUNTAINS

This was our 13th trip with Exodus and one of the most enjoyable. The walks were varied and leisurely and were easily altered to accommodate weather conditions. I was amazed at how well our friendly group of 16 gelled in just a few days.

Most Inspirational Moment

Digging potatoes with friendly villagers and sharing their lunch.Chickening out of the walk on a rainy day in favour of the Spa in Devin - a very good choice!Sofia was more interesting than I remembered from 20 years ago (unsurprisingly) - worth a longer visit. The cave dwelling was fascinating.Watching the cows come home to the village without any apparent supervision!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Svetla obviously loved the region and shared her enthusiasm with us. She was very helpful in sourcing local produce and crafts and taught us the rudiments of Bulgarian dancing.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walks were a little shorter and a lot gentler than I was expecting. I'm not sure this trip is a B grade but I suggest you just go with the flow and enjoy a leisurely beer or two back at the hotel.

KILIMANJARO CLIMB - RONGAI ROUTE

An amazing time. From start to finish one of the most enjoyable things that I have ever done. Cannot fault it at all. Great food, great company and many friends made

Most Inspirational Moment

Obviously getting to the summit was special but I also found the tipping ceremony to be very humbling.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Naihman (spelling) was an absolute star although it would be wrong not to mention all the guides who did their upmost to unsure that as many as possible made it to the top

Advice for Potential Travellers

It's all been said before - listen to the guides, pole pole etc. A few people have suggested a nail brush to help clean hands. As the rongai route is so dusty I would also suggest a thin pair of gloves to be worn as well because the nail brush will not cut the mustard on it's own. Also wearing gaitors from the off would help. (you may not win any style awards but hey who cares) A few of the group took diamox to help. I took one tablet and it made me feel quite ill. Nausea and an awful lot of toilet trips. 2.5 litres overnight. I took anadin extra after and didn't suffer again from any symptoms. Apart from that give away as much kit as you can afford (or even if you cannot)- the porters and guides work exceptionally hard and when you see them running past you with a massive bag on their heads and their own kit but flip flops on their feet and old T-shirts etc it makes you realise how fortunate we are. As the head guide said to me at the tipping ceremony "in Tanzania we have a saying that what you give in this world god will give you inthe next" it does make it worthwhile.

MARRAKECH & THE SAHARA

A holiday so much enjoyed, with excellent scenery and lingering tastes of culture and history, together with as good a set of companions as you could find and led by a wonderful guide with such comprehensive knowledge.

Most Inspirational Moment

Early on we left the mini bus and took to camels - the short journey took us to a different world, seemingly leaving behind technology and hastle, passing small villages with mud houses. Entering the Sahara, with the dunes and palm trees was one of the most special moments in my life - I can't really explain why but it was just so beautiful!

Thoughts on Group Leader

A very friendly man with a good sense of humour. His knowledge of the trip, the history, culture and religion of the country were excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip was so well organised that there was nothing to do except just enjoy. So the best advice is not to worry.

WALKING IN SARDINIA

This was an excellent holiday with some interesting terrain and a few historic site as well as a couple of relaxed days without any long walks and time to ourselves.

Most Inspirational Moment

The last walk for me was quite an achievement as it was 15 km long and had some really rough bouldery streambed type terrain. The final destination at Cala Longa with a lovely long relaxed swin and return by boat to Cala Gonone ended an excellent week.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ruedy was an truely excellent leader. Never trying to hurry those of us who were older and slower than most and allowing the 'gazelles' amongs us to proceed with out being held up. Also when one of our number had a cut knee he had all the skills to treat it and to accompany her for the rest of the distance which, as there was no road access to the path, says alot for his skills. His instructions were very clear and precise. Excellent!

Advice for Potential Travellers

My advice to other potential travellers is to be sure to have good boots and not just treking shoes. The heat was a bit of a problem on day one  28°C and we walked 16km and up 600m on a tarmac road.

TUSCANY: CYCLE SIENA & CHIANTI

This was a really brilliant trip, the climbs were perhaps a little longer than what I expected but the downs were as good as anywhere I have ever been! The views were absolutley beautiful and all the Villages so well preserved. Road surfaces were excellent as were the Hotels.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of each hill and seeing the amazing views.Eating outside in the Piazza Del Mercato in Seinna on a beautiful moonlit night.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent ,he was always ready to give information about the local history and was full of good humor and a very relaxed guy but always in control.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You need to be fairly fit to enjoy the biking and don't drink too much wine,  energy drinks will help you get up the hills!

CYCLE THE BACKROADS OF SRI LANKA

Beautiful way to travel thorough this amazing country. Amazing diversity of people and places and great to get off the beaten track.

Most Inspirational Moment

Finally getting to the top of the hardest climb I've ever done aminst beautiful tea plantations and sunset.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Pleasant but limited English. Was unaware of my dietry requirements (gluten free because of coeliacs disease) despite Exodus being informed months ahead of schedule and checking again before departure. Didn't have enough English to understand this. Very ridgid in his plans and overbearing at times. Expected guests to buy his water and snacks etc.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you're coeliac take your own food! You need to be reasonably fit to enjoy this.
