CLASSIC KENYA SAFARI

A well organised trip that was full to the brim of wonderful experiences.

Most Inspirational Moment

Viewing the poverty in Kenya.Having a black rhino run across the road directly in front of us.Watching two lions copulate.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ben did his best to make our trip as enjoyable as possible. He made us feel a little uncomfortable about not going to the Masai village but I guess he wants us to contribute to the local community. However, we stood firm and did not go (although we did make a contribution to the village). Other than that, he was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife. He also had a good sense of humour which is very important when you're stuck together for 6 days. He worked incredibly hard (long driving days, animal spotting, organising us and our accommodation, serving lunch, etc.) for which we were very grateful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for a non-stop trip full of activities (we hardly had time to shower some days)! Early to bed and early to rise as far as this trip is concerned. It's as easy to take US dollars as it is Kenyan shillings.

THE AMALFI COAST

A fantastic week’s walking in a beautiful area.  Its tough waking in places but all do-able. Anyway its good to be pushed beyond our comfort zones sometimes. A walking stick was an invaluable aid to the majority of us (young and older), especially down hill, but they do have some for use at the hotel.  The hotel couldn’t have made us more welcome and the food was totally yum! The rooms were spacious, v.clean and well equiped and provided big sparkling white towels daily. Staff at hotel were excellent. Kitchen cooking demos added to the overall experience as did the visit to the local village cheese factory.  Thanks to all the group for making the week such a great experience.

Most Inspirational Moment

Inspirational moments were for me Walk of the Gods for the views (steps down to Possitano at the end, lots of them, but unless your knees are suffering by that point, they were no problem we all agreed). Guided optional walk around the rim of Vesuvio, dropping 20 meters down inside to the fumerols was facinating, and visiting the waterfalls in the nature reserve on the valley walk, which was a complete and wonderful surprise to us who ventured in. Viewing Possitano from a-high on three peaks walk, magic!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Juan, our guide was knowledgeable and helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take comfy walking boots, preferably, and a walking pole (useful as a third leg on some tricky terrain). The walks do require a reasonable level of fitness and are not just stolls.  There are some steep upward gradients and tricky downward decents.  Beaches are stones/pebbles so beach shoes came in useful for swim opportunities. It was a good time do this trip as end september is marginally cooler for walking but still very very pleasant for a sea dip and a cold beer.

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

We had high expectations for our holiday, and Exodus met them. Our tour guide, Paula, arranged our days perfectly and was always on hand to help, even on the free day.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walk of the Gods because it had everything - stunning views, good company and a chance to work off the excellent food we had enjoyed every day! By the way, we counted 1273 steps down to Positano, not 1500 as in the guide, so not quite as scary as we thought.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Professional, knowledgable, friendly and nothing too much trouble.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Come prepared for long and busy days, but you will take away many happy memories.

MONT BLANC HIGHLIGHTS

A fantasic week of being brilliantly looked after by Oliver and Elaine. The views and walks exceed my expectations. Chalet Savoy is a very comfortable place to stay, with everything that you need, especially a hot tub for the post walk soak.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top at Brevent, it was a hard climb but the view made it worth it! I took the cable car up to Aiguille du Midi on the first day which gave the most amazing views across to Mont Blanc.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Oliver certainly knows his stuff, he is very enthusiastic about his local environment, people, animals and plants. His jokes are truely terrible, but by the end of the week you are joining in with them too! :) Elaine's cooking is wonderful, you don't go hungry, and it is very impressive how she manages to cater for such a big group!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Try and practise climbing some hills before you go, the distances you cover each day are not that far - approx 10 miles, but the ascents and descents at altitute might not be what you are used to. And read the trip notes to get an accurate idea of the planned walks, accomodation and trip.

THE AMALFI COAST

This is an excellent holiday in a beautiful part of Italy. The walks are great and the food is fantastic.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking to the summit of Mount Vesuvius in the wild windy weather. It was very atmospheric.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paula was very enthusiastic. Also the way she herded us on to the rather hectic local transport was incredible.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walking was more strenuous than I had expected. There are many steps and these take their toll on the calves and knees. Walking poles are a must.

WALKING IN THE WESTERN DOLOMITES

Walking, accommodation (especially the food) and leaders all excellent – BUT Exodus really shouldn’t run the trip as late as mid-September – the winter timetable had started a week earlier so some cable cars weren’t running, and unexpected heavy snow led to others being shut down – because of this the leaders had to work very hard to find alternative walks and it is to their great credit that they managed to do so.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking in deep snow in September....!  The views (once it stopped raining and snowing) were amazing!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both were excellent - and they both willingly gave up their free day to take us on walks

Advice for Potential Travellers

Great trip but don't go later than the first week in September as both cable cars and huts are shutting down - and I don't think it's fair of Exodus to run the trip then and put extra pressure on leaders

INCA TRAIL & THE AMAZON RAINFOREST

Well what can i say about the Amazon and the Inca trail; what an experiance, the sites are amazing.  The inca trail was extra special and the ruins were fabulous; just to be there and walk among the sites was quite somthing, a must do trip of a life time.  However i will say i suffer from the clasic tummy bug and had to take antibiotics; but the worst bit was the fact that 7 out of the 13 of us suffered from some illness on the third day of the trail.  What was the cause we can only speculate but we had the evening meal and with 3 hours all 7 of us that suffered were vomiting and having a really bad case of the runs!!!  i’ve never in my 42 years suffered quite like that.  we all then suffered for the next week recovering but could still enjoy the trip, if not as much as we might of had, had we not got ill.  Still a must do.

Most Inspirational Moment

the moment you get up the final steps to the sun gate at Macho Piccho was quite sureal, we've been walking for four days and all in need of a good shower and we bump straight into the average tourist on a day trip to the sites.  We had just experianced something those tourist would never know about, the trial itself as i say amazing.  the views when on top of the mountains were incredable, so don't miss out take the trip and and do the trail!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Carlos, was a great guide and made all our arrangements for us sorting everything out making our life over the two weeks very easy.  I will say that i think even Carlos suffered from the pace of the trip as it's non stop for the whole two weeks and even he got a little ratty at times.  That said he was still a very good guide and worth every penny of the tip at the end.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Prior to getting to Macho Piccho you can book the Wayna Piccho mountain trail (the entrance is in Macho Piccho) and it takes about 2hours; but the sites are unbelievable and the infrastructure the incas put in place on that mountain was quite amazing and adds to the whole experiance. The only other thing i can say is be carefull what you eat if you have a delicate belly like me!!

GORILLAS & MASAI MARA

The trip of a lifetime – amazing wildlife, fantastic guides, and beautiful scenery.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting close to wild mountain gorillas is really exciting - you can't quite believe you're there and I had to pinch myself a few times. They didn't seem to mind us being in their territory at all and the babies were adorable. The trek up there makes it even more special - scrambling through jungle and up muddy slopes to reach them. A fantastic day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

All the local guides were brilliant. Nebert went out of his way to make sure everyone was happy and having a good time, and Charles' knowledge of wildlife was second to none. Albert cooked delicious meals every day and was really helpful with my egg allergy, cooking me a separate meal when necessary. He even cooked in the pouring rain and remained cheerful throughout. In short - the group leaders made the trip!

Advice for Potential Travellers

There are a lot of long trips in the truck, and some very early starts.Don't forget some antibacterial hand wash (the type you don't need water or a towel for), a head torch, and the trousers that zip off into shorts are really helpful to have with you too.

CYCLING THE CAPE & WINELANDS

An excellent trip where the first half of it is very European (Dutch and Scottish Highlands) followed by areas with different wildlife. Coastal areas provided great viewing spots for whale watching and the views were great too! Needless to say the wine was very good so bring plenty of cash for this. Local food deffinitely worth trying!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Last day cycling up to and around Chapman's Peak especially as the rainy weather gave way to sunshine.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I can safely say that our leader was second to none compared with all other work/adventure travel I've done. Nothing was too much trouble, attended to all our needs and always provided alternatives if there was no immediate solution. His local knowledge and enthusiasm was excellent which made the trip that more enjoyable and fulfilling.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Come prepared for the weather!!! The weather can be very variable especially in the winter with strong winds and driving rain followed by glorious days of sunshine. Mornings can be very cold especially at the beginning of every ride. BRING A UK TO S.A. POWER ADAPTOR. VERY DIFFICULT TO BUY LOCALLY!!!!!!!

WALKING IN SARDINIA

Amazing landscapes, mountains and beaches. The hotel was comfortable and the food was great.

Most Inspirational Moment

The walk and scamble to Tiscali was truely memorable for its challenging but stunning route.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Rudy was the most organised and calm person I have met! He led the group from the back so ensuring whatever the abilities of the group members all had an enjoyable trip. He was an excellent guide who made the trip very memorable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring walking boots and be prepared to be fed a lot by the hotel!
