A wonderful adventure

This trip exceeded our expectations. We had previously done cycle Cuba and loved it but this trip was better. Everything from the hotels, the glorious food, the mix of cycle days/rest days, the trip leader Long, the endless smiles from children and families as we cycled through their villages and the really lovely group we were part of all made this a trip to remember.

There were 17 in the group which sounds very large but as we all got on, everyone mixed and everyone supported each other, it turned out to be the backbone of why the trip was so successful. The crew lead by Long also made the holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

Everyone who attempted it getting up Hai Van Pass including myself as I was one of the slowest. The group stood at the top cheering me on as I reached the summit (thank you everyone)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Long was informative, cheery at all times and just ensured we enjoyed our holiday. He was great.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You cannot prepare for the heat and humidity but just ensure you do some cycling preparation, even it is just getting used to gear changes. You get fitter as the days tick by. The holiday was not as expensive as we thought on day to day spends as you get a lot for your "Dong". A nice surprise.

Absolutely Fabulous

Amazing trip with wonderful people in an exciting country and the best support team ever. Everything was well organised and we had complete confidence in all the Exodus team. They were brilliant.

Most Inspirational Moment

When ALL the group who started out on Hai Van Pass reached the top.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lam did an amazing job. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He attended to our every need with absolute professionalism and good humour. He was very supportive and really fun to be around. His local knowledge was excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It can get quite hot so be prepared.......but it is well worth it.

Vietnam Cycling trip

This trip was amazing as we spent time dodging scooters in large cities like Ho Chi Min City and Hanoi as well as being in extremely beautiful rural environments too. The hotels were of a fantastic standard and the country has so much interesting history and culture and we learned so much in between the more serious cycling. Following the coast road was wonderful as the sea breeze cooled us down and the views were magnificent. The 10km climb was fun and all of the group except two who were a little poorly made it to the top. A 35km downhill was absolutely exhilarating.
Overall I would highly recommend this trip it was so interesting, colourful, wonderfully guided and I have not yet mentioned the cuisine -I am a piscatorian and the food was exquisite…the train ride was great fun and words fail me to describe the immense mystical beauty of Halong Bay,

CYCLING VIETNAM

Excellent cycling, food, scenery, group of people , experiences and very likeable and knowledgeable leader, Lam.

Most Inspirational Moment

Quite a few. Cycling the back lanes and seeing the locals in their field of crops, also the Van pass both up and down. The food was excellent throughout, Lam taking us to many good local restaurants. The overnight train journey and stay on the boat in Halong Bay together the kayaking to see monkeys on the cliffs of one of the peaks were memorable. The food on the boat was best of the holiday. The hotels were all comfortable but we stayed in two 5* ones which were both magnificent and totally unexpected as part of the trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lam was sociable, knowledgeable and a very good leader. Always enthusiastic, smiling and was the perfect host for the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go & enjoy it. Prepare for the 300 miles of cycling, whilst much was on the flat you still need a reasonable level of fitness, to cope with heat. You are able to have 2 laundry services along the way which are well organised and cheap.

Cycling Vietnam

Fantastic tour well organized from beginning to end
Wonderful way to see the country and sample the culture

Most Inspirational Moment

The team spirit and the support and encouragement of fellow cyclists given to me particularly on the cycle challenge of the hai van pass

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lam was efficient friendly and totally supportive attended to every need of the group

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are thinking of doing this cycle holiday book now ! All hotels are of a very high standard so everything is provided toiletries towels hair dryers etc

Vietnam the only way

I think this is the best thing I have ever done is was challenging, different and I feel I personally achieved something I will look back on and be pleased I did.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of the hill on the hardest part of the ride, and being cheered in by the rest of the group and escorted by Chi who had come back to meet me. Sailing in Halong Bay very atmospheric, just the sheer fun of doing something so very different.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chi was brilliant such a sense of humour, very knowledgable and good fun

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take as little as possible and just enjoy the whole experience you won't regret it. Get yourself fit to get the most out of it. I don't mean cycling for miles before you go but being cycling fit helps. I did gym sessions a couple of times a week and maybe one longish cycle ride a week.

Cambodia & Vietnam

We selected to do the Cambodia extension before the Cycling Vietnam tour. We also added a few extra days in Cambodia and in Hanoi at the end – well worth it. The time spent around Siem Reap visiting the sights at Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom is amazing plus having a knowledgable guide to provide information as well as the best times for each of the many sights to see is essential. The hotel was changed from orginally planned, but it turned out better as the location was closer to the town center – City River Hotel.
The Cycling tour from Saigon to Hanoi was great as we lucked out in having a small group – can’t imagine it with more than 12 people as the schedule is pretty tight and the guide has to keep you on track. The hotels are better than we expected with very helpful staff everywhere. The route is varied from nice smooth roads by the coast to almost cart tracks in the country, but it provides for such a close up view of the Vietnamese countryside. Support from the guide, mechanic, bus and truck drivers was exceptional as they ensured that the group was safe, fed and watered, mechanically sound and ready for each day’s adventure. It is a good combination of biking, sightseeing and water activities. Also the train ride from Hue to Hanoi is fun and a good way to further interact with other travelers.

Most Inspirational Moment

Visiting the many sights around Angkor Wat and listening to some of the stories of our cycle guide. Also the museums associated with the killing fields of Pol Pot around Phnom Penh.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both our guide in Cambodia and on the Vietnam cycle tour were excellent. We learned much more than the basic information of specific temples or sights, but insight to life in general in both countries. In addition the support of all the drivers and mechanic was great - timing was good and always with a smile.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are planning the Cycle tour up Vietnam you should spend a few extra days at the beginning and the end to see both Saigon and Hanoi and also get over any jet lag. You don't need lots of clothes as its a very informal tour and washing is easy. Also adding the Cambodia tour is worth it if you have never seen the Khmer sights.

A Fantastic Biking Trip in Viet Nam

The cycling trip in Viet Nam exceeded all my expectations. The leader and his support team were terrific and made sure that everyone (of varying biking abilities) felt supported and was able to make the whole trip. The route, the monuments and the sights we saw will be with me always, but especially the people who made the trip a reality.

Most Inspirational Moment

It's hard to single out one instance - every day we saw and experienced things that were so far outside a North American's normal experience. The unrelenting hard work and good nature of the people leading the tour and with whom we came in contact was truly amazing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was supremely well qualified and prepared to lead a very disparate group of bikers through some tough situations (long elevation changes, urban riding in traffic) and made sure everyone got through it safely and happily. He knew every inch of the route, took us to amazing places to eat and never rested until everyone was taken care of.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you are physically prepared for the active portions of the trip. Bring enthusiasm and a positive attitude.

Carefree Adventure

This trip was a great exploration of Vietnam, from big cities to rural villages. The roads selected for our rides were quite good and smooth for the most part, with a few bumpy sections. Bikes provided were comfortable, of good quality and well-maintained. I’ve had this trip on my radar for a couple years and it did not disappoint.

Most Inspirational Moment

Riding through rural villages and having all the children running out to the road to greet us with a smile and a big shout of, "Hello, Hello!" Riding through streets as motorbikes flowed smoothly around us like water, as though we were the rocks in their stream

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Chi, always had safety in mind. He was super-organized - there was not a single issue on the trip. The entire team - group leader, drivers, mechanic - worked together smoothly like one well-oiled machine. Chi's pleasant demeanor and love of cycling helped to set and maintain the positive tone of the trip throughout. I would gladly travel with him again.
