Really not the best holiday Exodus offer

I love the Amalfi coast and was looking forward to this holiday but although as a whole it was a great experience I was left quite disappointed on more than one occasions. I heard from others that other Exodus holidays in other location have been much better. It seems to depend on the local Exodus team rather than on the agency staff in the UK.

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing Vesuvius

Thoughts on Group Leader

He clearly loves trekking and the mountains, but he wasn't the most caring leader. Our group was varied in age, from people in their 20s to others in their 60s, some had health conditions which requited slower pace of walking, but our leader was always at the front with the fastest and youngest, not knowing how the rest of the group are doing, are they coping, are they in pain. If I had his job, I'd like to know where everyone in my group is at all time. On the last day, the slower part of the group was not even given breaks. As soon as they caught up, they had to go again. Some of the activities were not scheduled with our best interest in mind, after climbing Vesuvius and walking around Pompei for hours we had 30 min for a rest in the hotel and had to go to a cheese tasting and then to a pizza making deminstration and then to dinner. Some people refused to go to all these activities. It was just too much for one day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Your experience will depend very much on the group leader you get. The hotel was nice, rooms were new and comfortable, but the food at breakfast and dinner was not the best. Not what you'd expect from an Italian holiday and for the money you pay.

Winter wonderland

Fantastic week from start to finish. Great food and comfortable accommodation, equipment great also.

Most Inspirational Moment

Nothern lights

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide was a kind and sweet man, he was clearly passionate about nature and was more than happy to share his knowledge about our surroundings

Advice for Potential Travellers

Spend time getting to know the others in the group.

North Cyprus

Very enjoyable trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Visiting old cities of Famagusta and Nicosia

Thoughts on Group Leader

Gizer was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and really brought the history of this fascinating island alive.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Good walking footwear essential

Amazing Namibia!

A truly great trip. Namibia is a big country and that becomes apparent very quickly. You can drive for hours on dirt roads without ever seeing any sign of civilisation. There’s a whole lot to see you won’t be disappointed.

Most Inspirational Moment

That's a tough one as there were many. I'm not generally a big animal fan but here when you see a herd of giraffes in full gallop or a bull elephant about to attack the truck you are sitting in or a pride of lions making a complete blunder of attacking a large herd of zebras and wildebeast around a water hole, you cannot fail to be amazed!

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had a great tour guide in Ronney Kavari. I don't know how he managed to drive as well as be our guide. He an excellent game spotter and also knew his stuff on every aspect of Namibia.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Firstly regarding currency just buy South African Rand they don't tell you this but you can easily get it here in the UK and it works out as 1 Rand to 1 Namibian Dollar accepted throughout Namibia. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted but you will need some cash for some activities and some eateries. In the main though the card is good in most places. Secondly there are early starts, the distances are huge and a lot of roads are rough which makes it rather tiring but worth it. Thirdly we went on 24th March and didn't encounter any mosquitoes. I imagine that's a different story when it gets wetter.

Disappointing trip organisation

Japan did not disappoint despite 3* hotel stays, lack of opportunities that purported to be arranged locally by your tour leader and are subject to availability none of which were available, poor planning of travel necessitating tickets bought on the day at the station, basic information provided at tourist sites and lack of organisation that curtailed one of the main Japanese sites.

Most Inspirational Moment

Matsumoto castle at night and Okochi Sanso Gardens (not on itinerary)

Thoughts on Group Leader

A lovely man but questioning his experience of leading a group. Provided only information on sites that we read in leaflets, should have purchased train tickets evening before or early in morning rather than have us constantly wait for him to buy tickets whilst we waited, when asked about arranging a tea ceremony I was sent web links even after informing him there was no spaces all March and into April. He did provide links to Tokyo possibilities however several were for groups and others for minimum 2 people - difficult when a solo travellers.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book all activities before trip - cultural, theatre, tea ceremonies, sumo wrestlers etc. do not rely on guide or company. Ensure you have read up on all temples/shrines before trip. Do not expect group dinners and there will not be one at the beginning of the trip.

Reply from Exodus

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review about your recent Exodus holiday, Noreen. We are pleased to read that you enjoyed Japan overall, although we were concerned to receive your comments about your tour leader, aspects of your accommodation and general organisation of your trip. We appreciate the impact our leaders have on our customers’ overall experience in destination, so we were saddened to learn that yours appeared inexperienced in delivering a tour that met your expectations. According to our local team, your leader passed all the necessary training and has regularly and successfully led a variety of Exodus tours throughout the past six years, with generally good feedback, which we trust shows why we were confident to assign him to your trip. We acknowledge, however, that improvements can always be made, and we will be following up with him as a matter of priority to ensure that any skills gaps are addressed ahead of future departures, with a specific focus on improving his local knowledge. In terms of purchasing train tickets, this cannot always be done in advance and, in any event, the most cost-effective option is for our leaders buy them on the day. We appreciate that customers enjoy the flexibility that optional activities offer, so we are regretful that the visits you were interested in were unavailable. Our trip notes do indicate that all these activities are subject to availability, and it appears that the sudden surge in post-pandemic tourism in Japan has led to tickets being booked up much earlier than anticipated. We are, therefore, considering removing these entirely or adding information to our literature about booking well in advance to avoid disappointment. We recognise that Hiroshima is often a highlight for our customers, so we are sorry that you felt this part of the trip was rushed. This day involves a two-hour train journey each way and the sites can be particularly busy during the peak season, which limits the amount of time groups have here. We are currently considering adding a night here next season, which sadly cannot change things for you, but hopefully shows that we are endeavouring to act on your feedback. Finally, we regret that you found the room you were allocated at the last hotel to be rather cramped, as this must have taken some of the shine off your trip. Japanese hotels in urban areas are known for featuring small rooms as most are used by solo travellers on business trips and because cities such as Tokyo are so densely populated that space is at a premium. Nevertheless, we would never wish for our customers to be uncomfortable and please be assured that your comments will be factored into any future discussions about accommodation choices. We hope this addresses your feedback and that this experience has not deterred you from traveling with Exodus in the future.

A Must Do Trip

Currently on the holiday. Having a wonderful walking experience although weather not been great but improving. Learning the history of the separation of the island very interesting too.

Most Inspirational Moment

Surviving the steps to the castle!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Gizer is a wonder. He is suffering with a virus but still being an amazing guide and companion. So knowledgeable and helpful. Amazing man.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't travel on group booking if offered with Lufthansa. The connection time is too short a connectione at Frankfurt (huge airport and long journey from one terminal to another) and luggage never arrived for all group booked passengers. Big hassle when luggage eventually arrives in Greece ( Larnaca) but can't be delivered to Turkish (Northern Cyprus) hotel. BIG stress and hassle.

Best holiday ever

Back roads of Sri Lanka and more

Most Inspirational Moment

Too many to list

Thoughts on Group Leader

Suresh was marvellous from the moment we met him. His passion and knowledge of his home country was infectious. If I could ask for him on every future trip I take I would. He certainly made the holiday stress free.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are not used to heat and humidity try and arrive in Sri Lanka a few days before the official start so your body acclimatises.

Fabulous Namibian Adventure

A truly magical, memorable tour experiencing all Namibia has to offer. The scenery is spectacular with wide open skies inviting you further. The wildlife sightings surpassed my expectations thanks to our fabulous guide Ronney.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many highlights made this trip an adventure . I enjoyed treking to the White Lady rock paintings through Valley 45 , climbing the sand dunes in the Namib Desert, stargazing and viewing herds of zebra and giraffes move gracefully across the Etosha pan.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ronney Kavari was fabulous. He looked after us throughout the trip , safely drove our overlander and informed us in depth about his beautiful country and people.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you want to experience a stunningly beautiful remote region then go to Namibia. The accommodation and food is very good and in great locations. Yes there are long driving days but regular stops and incredible views make up for it and the overlander was fun.

Fantastic trip!

We had a wonderful time. Fabulous scenery, well-organised and memorable excursions, great hotel with lovely staff and delicious food, and fantastic weather!

Most Inspirational Moment

Visiting Pompeii and Herculaneum. Our guide Francisco was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Severio was fantastic and took great care to treat all group members as individuals and meet their needs.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Explore the local area as well as the visits - Bomerano is a lovely little village and more peaceful than some of the towns we visited.

Walking in Tuscany was an amazing experience

The accommodation was in an agriturismo farm. It was a very nice place to be with all the beautiful scenery around to view on waking. Elvis the dog was a great accompaniment.
The walking or hiking was tough in some places but on completion you felt a great sense of achievement. The food at the farm was delicious. Breakfast and lunch were self service but all was provided to make a hearty meal. Dinner was there courses of home made items.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the summit of our climb on Thursday. It was very hard on the last third especially coming down but definitely achievable. The cave was also a great place to visit on you day off or if weather too bad to hike.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sarah was very inspirational and motivating. She definitely got me out of my comfort zone. Nothing was too much for her to organise including our washing. It was inspiring to listen to her tales of adventures she has had in the past and characters she has had on her trips.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would thoroughly recommend this trip for great scenery and amazing hikes. If a beginner like me then do get some basic hiking done before you go so the steeper trails are not too daunting. Sarah however makes everything achievable no matter how tough with her encouragement.
