Holi Festival in India

An unforgettable and once in a lifetime experience

Most Inspirational Moment

Holi Festival and visiting the amazing marble Jain temple but also tiger spotting and Rathambore safari plus all of the other amazing site visits - too many to mention...

Thoughts on Group Leader

Gaj was fantastic and looked after all of us very well. Loads of knowledge and a great leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

A lot of minibus travelling between sites so take your ipad or a book.

Trek Malaysia

Great trip…KL to Taman Nagara rainforest then tough trek up Mt Kinabalu

Most Inspirational Moment

Trek up Kinabalu starting at 2.30 a.m!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Brilliant!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for this trip...rainforest, mountains and lovely islands off Borneo

Borneo Wildlife Discoverer

great tour leader, nice traveling group, great trip

Most Inspirational Moment

our time in Mulu. The caves, the rain forest, the ambiance of the village we stayed in and the locals.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rony was a great leader, he went out of his way to make sure we got the best experience he could offer. he was so happy that we got to see the big 5 of Borneo. No request was too much to ask for and he went out of his way to make sure that questions and requests were all taken care of.

Advice for Potential Travellers

this is a great trip to take if you are of average fitness or not that young, yet be warned, to be prepared for high temperatures and high humidity, in the 90% range. We have done many trips into 3rd world countries and I must say that this trip was the safest feeling one that I've ever been on.

Nice way to visit Vietnam

Really enjoyed the variety of activities and being able to see so much of Vietnam in two weeks. I felt the tour was both enjoyable and interesting. The trip was quite fast paced and provided a look at a lot of different aspects of Vietnam. The activities such as the hiking, visiting caves, kayaking and biking meant there were plenty of opportunities for movement and exercise.

Most Inspirational Moment

Many, but kayaking in Ha Long Bay is something I really enjoyed.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader Thang was great. Very informative and easy to approach.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I found the pollution in the cities a bit difficult for my throat, so face masks and throat lozenges were helpful. I brought padded bike shorts and was glad I wore them.

Truly discovered Sri Lanka!

What a brilliant trip, the itinerary is well put together, the first week we were doing towns and temples, and the second week was a bit more relaxed in scenery and nature. I was very impressed with all of the hotels used, most had swimming pools and all the rooms were modern and spacious . The last one in Colombo with a roof top bar !

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing lion Rock, I didn't make it to the top but got to the lions claws and waited for the others. I also really liked meeting the village farmers, we played games and had a good laugh!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sujan was a really knowledgeable chap, friendly and patient, with a wicked sense of humour. He did a great job!

Advice for Potential Travellers

You don't need adapters if you're English as all hotels were 3 pin. Take an umbrella, it's too hot to wear a waterproof! And take socks to the temples, we burnt our feet on the cobbles even running haha Take a good water container and you can get it filled as many times as you need on the bus. Take clothes to cover arms and knees for the temple, or a pashmina to go over your shoulders. I changed money at the airport, I initially changed £300 but needed slightly more so I used the ATM which you get to every other day or so.

Highlights of northern india

A busy but fun filled 8 days travelling around to see the best of northern India! A lot of travelling on the bus but that’s really the only way to get around, plus you see a lot of how people live, get around and the landscape.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Taj Mahal in all its majesty

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mayank was clearly not new at this role. He was very knowledgeable in many aspects and topics of India , where I was able to learn a lot ( whether I retained the information is a different story) . As he was mentioning the different religions in India, he did mention a bit of personal information where he said he considered himself Jain. This on its own did not bother me. In fact, it helps develop a connection. However when he said they are considered the ‘Jews of India’ and more specifically businessmen mentality, this is where I feel he may have overstepped. The reason I say this is what followed a couple days later. In Varanasi, there was an option in the morning to see a Buddhist temple. Myself and a few others were not interested in joining the group so we asked if it was possible for Mayank to book us a tuktuk. He went ahead and kindly did that for us. From my recollection, we did not clearly tell him what we were doing because we didn’t know what was there. There was mention of maybe going into the old town, but nothing was set. We assumed everything was fine on his end as he booked the tuktuk. We ended up getting a very kind driver who asked us where we wanted to go, we said maybe some shops. We went to a couple warehouse shops where we made purchases and then walked around the Muslim area to see people shopping in preparation for Eid. It was a fantastic morning!!! Mayank ended up finding our about where we went and that we made purchases. He ended up getting upset and short with our driver, on two occasions, the second one which we were witness to. He appeared rude and demeaning to our driver, as our driver told us what he said ( we had the same driver the following day to drive us to the boat tour on the Ganges). Basically Mayank asked why he took us to these places and that he wasn’t supposed to go there. After this, there was a sour taste in my mouth towards Mayank, unfortunately. I felt he was just upset because he lost money as we purchased things at places he didn’t take us to. This is something a businessman would be cognizant of.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This was my first trip to I did so other than reading reviews here I didn’t really know what to expect. I’d say pack light, bring reachable clothes that retail odor (you don’t have much opportunity for washings), bring tummy meds just in case, always carry tissue/toilet paper and sanitizer. The week is jam packed filled with so many great sights and experiences - take advantage of everything!! No regrets! It was so memorable! Am already thinking about returning to India

Reply from Exodus

We would like to thank Hannah for her feedback and are delighted to read that her holiday was memorable and that she enjoyed the cultural aspect of the trip. We are sorry that she had a disappointing experience with the leadership on this tour as at Exodus we take great pride in our tour leaders. Mayank is recognized as one of our top leaders and consistently receives positive feedback from our customers. Over the past six months, he has maintained an impressive average rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars and we apologise that Hannah’s experience did not align with this standard.
Regarding the shopping trip, we acknowledge that there may have been some miscommunication. On speaking with Mayank, he explained that the local tuk-tuk driver was instructed to take the guests to a particular market close to the river which we often recommend to customers as it is a safe and reputable area. It seems, the driver may have misled the guests that this market was closed and took them to another local area of his own recommendation. We’re really pleased that this was a positive experience for Hannah and they enjoyed the Muslim market however, it is not always the case and there have been occasions where rogue drivers have their own agenda and guests have a more negative shopping experience. Mayank was concerned with the driver that he had lied to the customers and spoke with him about the matter to ensure that it did not happen again. Mayank would not have benefited from any shopping commission for this independent excursion whether the guests had visited his suggested area or not, that was not the issue he had with the driver it was related to his concerns he mislead them for his own agenda and did not want it to happen again.
We appreciate the time Hannah took to share her experience and hope to have the opportunity to welcome her on future trips with us.

Best ever guide . Great itinerary . Happily lovely group . Let down by substandard accommodation in places ( excellent in others ) , under guise of authentic guest house considering expense of trip

Excellent Itinerary brilliant guide . Let down by some very poor accommodation . In one ,one toilet shared by about 8 ish . Tiny towels , small pillows full of some sort of bead . Futons very thin . Expensive single room supplement that was only available for 6 nights . Citing difficulty in finding accommodation ( Explore same itinerary single room available every night ) need for better accommodation not entitled . But long hikes , early starts lots of local transport , so element of tiredness.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking the Kumano Kodo , with snow patches between trees . Varied scenery . Walk through farms and villages with local produce stands . Peace of the temples .Most requiring quite a hike to get to .

Thoughts on Group Leader

Kouhei Nishida . Best guide ever . Nothing too much trouble . Sensible walking pace on the more challenging days . Always giving last person to arrive time to rest . Informative . Sorted queries quickly . And managed to keep group of 12 together despite public transport mishaps , ( us losing tickets , getting lost etc ! )

Advice for Potential Travellers

Hard to compare like with like . Explore about 2K cheaper for 12 days . Single rooms always available . And all have en-suite toilet . Probably not such a good guide

An excellent trip and I'd recommend Exodus

Amazing wildlife.

The boat driver at the beginning of the trip (Cecil) did a great job. Chico the bus driver, who was with us for most of the time, was a very good driver, was very efficient dealing with the luggage and he kept the bus immaculate. He was a character.

Before travelling to Costa Rica I spent 2 weeks in Panama. It has rubbish piled up everywhere – they don’t seem to manage it, don’t have a recycling culture and use a lot of polystyrene for the ubiquitous takeaways which just end up in the street. Costa Rica was like a breath of fresh air; no rubbish and a very strong emphasis on conservation.

I far prefer independent travel but having researched Costa Rica I realised that going to all the places I wanted to was a challenge too far. Exodus had been highly recommended to me by several friends and they were right. My reservations about an organised trip were dispelled very quickly. It was a small group, everyone bonded and got on very well. I enjoyed everyone’s company and never felt the need to ‘escape’. There was often a lot of laughter.

The trip was planned round my 70th birthday and I had a great group of people to celebrate (? drown my sorrows ?) with!

Most Inspirational Moment

Lots of them but not one in particular

Thoughts on Group Leader

Katia the guide was absolutely brilliant: she's a lovely person, friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the wildlife. How she spotted some things was beyond me - she has a very well trained eye. She also gave us a lot of information about Costa Rica in general. I wish I had half her energy! The restaurants she took us too were all really good. My computer mouse died and she even found a computer shop opposite an ATM so I could get a new one. Katia emailed me a lot of photos, as did one other group member, as I didn't want to get involved with Whatsapp (part of Mark Zuckerburg's dysfunctional empire!). I felt I'd missed out a bit as a Whatsapp 'refusenik' although I fully accept that it was my choice to swerve it. Perhaps there's another safer way to share photos as not everyone wants to sign up to Whatsapp?

Advice for Potential Travellers

- Don't overpack like I did worrying that you couldn't get laundry done. The lodges / hotels had fast and relatively cheap laundry services. - Take waterproof trousers as well as a waterproof jacket .

South East Asia Express

This trip worked very well for us as we did back to back with Vietnam Adventure.

Most Inspirational Moment

Having visited Cambodia 10years ago we knew what to expect but Angkor Wat never disappoints it is amazing . On a sobering note prepare yourself for the killing field’s and S21 as it stirs quite strong emotions on the pain and suffering this country has endured.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour had 3 group leaders . One from Ho Chi Minh City to Cambodian border . One in Cambodia and one in Thailand. We only got to know Channa our Cambodian guide who was friendly , approachable enthusiastic and very well organised. She is a credit to Exodus.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The tour does not spend anytime in Ho Chi Minh City so might be advisable to arrive 2 days earlier to explore .

Incredible trip, wildlife and people

Absolutely loved this trip – scenery and wildlife was incredible and Zaff and the crew went all out to make it one of the best weeks of our lives

Most Inspirational Moment

Swimming with three whale sharks in 30 mins, the manta rays at the cleaning station - but in general the underwater life is fantastic

Thoughts on Group Leader

Zaff was great, he lifts up those around him. At the beginning he told us he would try and give us the best week of our lives which was a great start! He's a charismatic and open guy who taught us a lot about the Maldives outsude of the honeymoon resort experience. I felt we got a much more authentic experience - visiting local islands, hearing about life there. We watched documentaries and also had speakers from NGOs. In the water he is a graceful swimmer who makes everyone feel safe. He worked hard alongside the other excellent members of the crew to make sure we saw as much as possible but not at the expense of the welfare of the animals or the reefs. Big shout out as well to our other snorkeling / diving companions Shafi and Hussein!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it! The boat is not a 5 star resort but the guys kept the boat clean and changed bins in the bathroom twice a day, and made up the rooms morning and evening. The Sri Lankan chef and waiter worked very hard - nothing was too much trouble - and I loved the exciting array of dishes we got at every meal. You definitely need a rash vest if you are Caucasian plus a factor 50 sunblock or you will burn.
