Ancient and Modern Japan

The holiday was an interesting introduction to a country with an intriguing culture

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing Mount Fuji and walking the back streets of Kyoto where there are many temples and shrines tucked away.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was at all times polite and good humoured.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Consider carefully when to visit Japan. It was cold and quiet wet in March. Later would definitely be better for viewing gardens.

Good but not outstanding

Good trip itinerary, with great wildlife viewing opportunities. Unfortunately didn’t get to see a blue whale or a leopard. Accommodation very good.

Most Inspirational Moment

The sounds of the birdsong in the rainforest. Also having a natural fish foot spa - again in the rainforest.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Friendly and approachable. Spoken English good but had difficulty understanding questions at times.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don’t come with high expectations of seeing a blue whale - sounds like you would be very lucky to see one. Definitely bring binoculars.

One of my best trips ever. Excellent guide and fellow trekkers. Beautiful country and people.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching Tiger's Nest monestery

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Truly dedicated. Nothing too much for him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't hesitate. Walking in the Himalayas is wonderful and Bhutan is a beautiful country. Follow advice for trekking and ensure fitness beforehand.

Fitting. Could also perhaps mention coastline in title

Wonderful holiday on a wonderful island. Returned home feeling very relaxed. Evia was very unspoilt. A real experience of Greek culture, food and hospitality. Hotel was very comfortable and in a perfect location for the beach and town. Hotel staff were lovely, breakfast excellent for a small hotel. I thoroughly enjoyed every day. Walking was varied, interesting routes and stunning scenery, we barely saw anyone else on the walks. Packed lunches were superb. Having private mini bus for the group made it easy for travel. Everyone on group was like-minded. Excellent guide Thano. Thank you!

Most Inspirational Moment

I particularly enjoyed the gorge walk and also the walk on final day to the quarry.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Thano was an outstanding guide. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He was passionate, expert as well as thoughtful and kind - definitely one of the best Exodus group leaders I have met. Throughout the week he went above and beyond to give us a real insight into Evia and Greek culture and history to make the trip extremely memorable. We were treated to local snacks and dishes which felt a real treat. He even gave us an impromptu walking tour of Athens on the last day. He made this trip very special.

Beautiful La Palma

We enjoyed our week of walking with a friendly group of co travellers and a knowledgeable guide. The walks and bus transfers were well organised and it was great to experience such a large amount of the island with different landscapes.
The first hotel was very good and the jacuzzi pool was great. The second hotel was well located although our room was cozy to say the least! We didn’t mind as it was just for a few days, it was clean and the bathroom facilities were modern. What I didn’t like was the indoor window; when people came in to use the lift at night and the light came on our room was very illuminated and it was disruptive to my sleep – these windows need to have blinds. In both hotels it would have been nice to have tea and cake/snacks for after the walks (as with ski holidays) because it’s a long time between early breakfast & late dinner.

Most Inspirational Moment

Fantastic scenery & incredible views.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Edén was very knowledgeable about history and plants and he shared a lot of information with us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take enough snacks, some of the walking days are long and lunch options sometimes limited. On the Sunday we stopped at a tiny supermarket to buy lunch, luckily I had been prepared and bought some healthy food the evening before. Also it was noticeably colder in the first hotel compared to in Santa Cruz so make sure you pack some warm casual clothes.

Wild Sri Lanka

I thought the guides were excellent but overmanned do we need four? .The naturist Dinth was very good and Chandril helped me with regards to my poor hearing.Overall I found the trip disappointing .I think you could make the whale watching optional and cut galle fort its a bit boring .I think more time should be spent at udawalawe and yala with two extra game drives in each .Also I found going to the forest a lot of effort for little reward I could just as well have gone for a walk in the woods back home apart from the leeches Whilst I agree you little control over any countries tourism plans there does seem to be a trend to cater for a nice comfy holiday that many westerners seem to expect opulent hotels and our dreadful culture ie pool parties and full blast music of a sort ,no wonder all the wildlife disappears .Therefore with regard to wildlife holidays they need to be not so comfortable and more remote and we in the west also need to understand this. When I visited sri lanka many years ago there were many large lizards wandering around the roads now there are only dogs another sign of how wildlife has disappeared I hope things can change in the future.

Most Inspirational Moment

Watching a huge tusker coming out of the bush at udawalawe his tusks were practically touching the ground .At night seeing a family of palm civets living under the drainage ducts at one of the hotels. A sloth bear in yala. Two large hornbills perched on top of the air ducts at the hotel

Thoughts on Group Leader

As stated above excellent just to many staff

Advice for Potential Travellers

Read my summary you go for the wildlife not a comfy stay in a european style hotel

Wild and Wonderful

A whistle stop tour through the extremes of Iceland’s landscape and weather! The itinerary is essentially waterfalls on day one, glaciers on day two and the ‘golden circle’ on day three. We had atrocious weather (lashing rain and 100mph winds) on day one so perhaps visiting three waterfalls wasn’t the best idea. They were very crowded and the weather made it impossible to really appreciate them. The glacier walk on the second day had to be abandoned due to high winds but not until after about an hour in the weather putting all the kit on and probably another hour attempting to get up the path. The northern lights are elusive and I found them disappointing – you can’t really see them with the naked eye, only through a camera lens set to the right exposure. We saw them on a separate bus tour on our last night in Reykjavik, not on the tour itself. Thankfully we had sunshine and calm for the last day. The landscape is beautiful and the food was delicious, if not all that varied. The long drives were broken up well with rest stops and road side sights.

Most Inspirational Moment

The huge icebergs in the glacial lagoon and on the nearby black sand beach. And our guide making us Icelandic gin and tonics by smashing up a piece of glacial ice from the beach with his ice pick when we were back at the hotel!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Oskar was great. He organised everything well, was really informative about Icelandic history and current events, and coped with some challenging weather and driving conditions with a great sense of humour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Allow a lot of time to transfer from/to the airport via Flybus. It doesn't go direct to hotels but involves changing at a bus terminal in Reykjavik (my flight arrived at 7.45pm and I got to the hotel at 10pm.) Make sure your waterproofs are definitely waterproof, take thermal tips and bottoms, and hats, scarves, gloves and snoods - the wind is ferocious and very chilly. You don't need cash except to tip the guide at the end of the trip. Make sure you bring an adapter and a usb a cable - my usb c didn't work in any of the usb points in the hotels or airport and charging via the adapter was slow.

Fabulous Experience of Costa Rica

We had an absolutely fabulous experience. The itinerary was well planned and allowed for a wide variety of experiences as well as free time to explore on our own or to rest. We loved the fact that we got to see most of Costa Rica to experience the wide variety of habitats and flora and fauna.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing sloths, monkeys and incredibly beautiful large birds (quetzal, toucans, etc.) in their natural habitats. Also, our group really developed a nice fondness for one another. Everyone seemed to really enjoy one another and get along well in spite of the great diversity of people on the trip. Happy hours and meals together made the trip extra enjoyable.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Katia was by far and away the best tour guide/leader that we have ever had and we have had some very good ones on multiple international trips we have taken. Her knowledge of so many different topics is beyond comprehension. Katia's knowledge of species of birds, wildlife, trees, plants and anything else in nature is encyclopedic. She not only is able to identify what we were seeing or hearing, she was also able to tell us about the mating habits and habitat of any species she identified for us. Also her ability to find birds and animals and plants out in the wild is amazing. Seemingly, nothing went unnoticed. Katia is also amazing in her ability to organize and plan ahead and to keep the group well informed about upcoming activities and schedules. Katia was also fantastic at recommending fabulous restaurants for the meals that were not included in our trip. Lastly, we must comment on Katia's joyful personality. She is incredibly warm and welcoming and makes everyone feel at ease. She is extremely attentive to EVERYONE on the trip AT ALL TIMES!!! We are so very thankful that we had Katia to provide us with such a rich and fabulous experience. We must also mention how much we appreciated our driver Francisco (Chico). He is a very skilled and careful driver who also has a great personality and sense of humor. He also kept our bus EXTREMELY NEAT AND CLEAN INSIDE AND OUT at all times.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack lightly and bring clothing that can be easily washed in sinks and then quickly dry. Given that we stay in each location only two nights, it is pointless to pack and unpack at each destination. Thus, be prepared to live out of your suitcase. Bring excellent walking/hiking shoes. Be prepared for rain even in the "dry" season as it rained on 70% of the days we were there in March. Bring plenty of one and five dollar bills for tips.

First time with Exodus and wow!

Great tour guide, nice small and friendly group, great locations to explore and lucky enough to see the lights.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the lights! They were phenomenal.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Really knowledgeable, friendly, funny and chilled.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don’t delay! Want to try or do something then just do it. If it’s Iceland just remember the more layers you can get on the better! Never underestimate how cold and windy it can be. And definitely don’t forget good waterproofs! Even the top quality ones are often rubbish when it comes to waterfall spray!

Mountains and Villages of Evia

A lovely trip led by a very hardworking and knowledgeable guide staying in a welcoming hotel on the waterfront. The walking was graded correctly in my opinion and we saw some fantastic scenery and remarkable ancient relics. The food was wonderful and Karystos is a super little town with plenty of fine restaurants and bars.
