Lots of fun, knowledgeable of the trail and conditions , attentive to safety and individual needs.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Prepare for the ascents. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself.

Epic!

What a trip, what an adventure, it was fabulous in every way, if you love walking, if you love the mountains, I’d highly recommend it. Firstly the scenery is epic, I don’t think I’ve ever said wow so many times!

The hotels like the food is a bit varied from the superb to the basic, but it all does the job and at the end of the day your often so tired as long as you’ve got something hearty to eat and some where warm and comfy to sleep that’s all you need. Yes, it would be nice if all the rooms had ensuite showers and toilets but on the few occasions they didn’t it was no big deal.

One thing that is a big deal is the weather in the Alps, which I can imagine can make or break a trip. I went near the end of the season (the last week in August first week of September) and fortunately it worked out great – The trails were quieter and we were so lucky with the weather – it was in the 20s virtually the whole time we were there and we only had one day of rain.

So in summary, if you’re thinking about it, if you’re on the fence go for it you won’t regret it.

Most Inspirational Moment

It's hard to say but probably making it to the top of the highest pass of the tour and crossing into Italy, where we stopped at a refuge for the best cup of drinking chocolate ever and while I was sat outside enjoying my drink and admiring the spectacular views I received a phone call from my son to say he was getting married. That was a bit of a moment!

Fantastic!!! It's not an easy job to manage a large group of people of widely different backgrounds, ages, and fitness levels over a two week 175km hike when you're with them from dawn till dusk but Adrian did it with ease and a smile. His energy and enthusiasm was unlimited and he also had a lot of patience, which I'm sure helps. He also went the extra mile to make sure everyone had the best trip possible, and I was blown away when he offered to give up his day off to take us back up the mountain above Chamonix on our last day (to a bit of the trail we'd missed the day before because of the heavy rain) so we could end the holiday on a high both literally and metaphorically. This is one of the best holidays I've ever been on and a big part of that was Adrain.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The number one bit of advice is - Get fit before you go, the fitter you are the more you'll enjoy it. As it is challenging, the distances themselves aren't that bad, it's not that technical, the paths are mostly good and there's very little scrambling but it's the elevation gains and the descents that really take it out of you. The second bit of advice is - Make sure your waterproofs are up to scratch, which includes bags and boots. We were lucky, we only had one day of rain but when it comes on the trail there's no place to hide, and after just three hours of heavy rain all of our rucksacks were soaked even though they all had covers. With that in mind I'd recommend dry bags for your stuff inside your rucksacks and waterproof document holders your paperwork because the last thing you want is for your passport or your insurance documents to get drenched. Also think about taking a power bank, it's not absolutely necessary but a few of the rooms I stayed in only had one power socket, and when you're sharing with two or three people that can make charging your electronics a challenge. Finally, if you're into barefoot/minimalist footwear (like I am) try and find some with a little more padding. I've been a big fan of this type of footwear for years, I don't hike in anything else, and in the Peak District where I live I don't have any problems they work great. But after the first day of the Tour I was having second thoughts about my Vivobarefoot hiking boots as most of the path down to Montroc is like a stoney beach and you feel it. Fortunately after the first day things improved but there are a lot of rocky paths on this trip and if you are into minimalist footwear it might be an idea to bring along a pair of trail runners that you can switch to when the going gets tough.

Amazing Trip

It was a challenging hiking trip but it’s worth every second of it. The scenery, the group and the accommodations are great.

Most Inspirational Moment

With the beautiful weather , the view of the Mont Blanc is very inspiring.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our hike leader Adrian took care of us on everything, from helping us out to cross the challenging moment . He answered all our questions even we ask over and over again. He lead us to the trail that is suited to our group on the bad weather situation. Overall he is a great leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure that you are physically and mentally ready for the tour du Mont Blanc.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just take into account the amount of climb and descent.

The Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is a legendary trekking route that circumnavigates the Mont Blanc massif, crossing through France, Italy, and Switzerland. It’s one of the most popular long-distance hikes in Europe, and after completing it, it’s easy to see why.

Most Inspirational Moment

The landscapes along the TMB are nothing short of breathtaking. From the moment you set foot on the trail, you're surrounded by towering peaks, vast glaciers, and lush valleys. Each day brings new vistas: serene alpine meadows filled with wildflowers, crystal-clear mountain lakes, and dramatic ridge-lines offering panoramic views of Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Western Europe. The scenery alone makes this trek worth every step. Overall Impression: The Tour du Mont Blanc is more than just a hike; it’s a journey that tests your physical limits while rewarding you with some of the most breathtaking landscapes and cultural experiences Europe has to offer. The mix of challenging terrain, diverse scenery, and the opportunity to immerse yourself in three different alpine cultures makes it an adventure like no other. Whether you’re seeking solitude in nature, a physical challenge, or a chance to connect with fellow adventurers from around the world, the TMB delivers in every way. It’s a trek that leaves a lasting impression and a deep appreciation for the beauty and power of the mountains.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Adrian was an exceptional leader on our Tour du Mont Blanc trek, making an already incredible experience even more memorable. His patience and attention to detail truly set him apart, ensuring that every member of our group felt supported and cared for throughout the journey. From the very beginning, Adrian’s calm and reassuring presence made a big difference. Whether it was helping someone pick up a rock that caught their eye, taking the time to capture the perfect group photo, or tending to broken blisters and sprained muscles, he handled every situation with grace and compassion. His ability to balance the needs of the group while keeping us on track was impressive, and his knowledge of the trail and local culture added so much depth to the experience. Adrian’s patience never wavered, even when faced with the inevitable challenges that come with a trek like the TMB. He was always ready to lend a hand, offer words of encouragement, or simply share a laugh to lighten the mood - it was a wonder…k! His genuine care for each person in the group made us all feel like we were in good hands, no matter how tough the day might have been. He was sure to provide the information about each day in advance so we knew what to prepare for. From ziggy-zaggies to the loose rocks, the elevation and crazy descents, Adrian made sure we knew what to prepare for. It’s clear that Adrian is passionate about what he does, and that passion translated into a leadership style that was both professional and personable. He was more than just a guide; he became a friend to everyone on the trek. Thanks to Adrian, we were able to fully enjoy the beauty and challenge of the Tour du Mont Blanc, knowing that we had a leader who was looking out for us every step of the way. If you’re lucky enough to have Adrian as your guide, you’re in for an unforgettable adventure. His dedication, patience, and kindness made our trek truly special, and we couldn’t have asked for a better leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Trail Experience: The trail itself is well-marked and maintained, though it demands respect. Read the signs carefully and know where you are headed before you start your adventure. With roughly 170 kilometers (106 miles) to cover and around 10,000 meters (32,800 feet) of total elevation gain, the TMB is physically challenging, especially with steep ascents and descents that can test your endurance. Cole de Bonhomme offers a variety of rocks and slate to climb. However, the rewards at the end of each climb—awe-inspiring views and a sense of accomplishment—make the effort worthwhile. While the trek is demanding, it's accessible to fit hikers with some experience. I found it essential to pace myself and take regular breaks at the local coffee mountain huts to fully enjoy the journey. Make sure to stop for the brownies and wild blueberry pie with Chantille. Italy served the best food. But overall think bread, cheese, and wine! If you do have a dietary restriction your options are limited, however with an open mind you can be fulfilled at the end of every dinner! Cultural Richness: The TMB offers a unique opportunity to experience the distinct cultures of three countries in a single trek. In France, the route takes you through quaint hamlets and past traditional farms, where you can taste local cheeses and see the agricultural way of life. In Italy, the warmth of the people and the rich flavors of the cuisine—pasta, wine, and fresh produce—create a welcoming atmosphere. Switzerland’s section is characterized by its pristine landscapes, charming villages, and an almost storybook-like quality. The transition between these regions is seamless, yet each brings its own flavor to the journey. ### Accommodations: One of the trip's highlights was the variety of accommodations available along the route. I stayed in a mix of mountain refuges, small guesthouses, and hotels. The mountain refuges, in particular, offered a warm, communal atmosphere where hikers from around the world gathered to share stories over hearty meals. Despite their rustic charm, the refuges were comfortable, and the food—often featuring local specialties, including lentil soup and duck -was delicious and satisfying. Booking ahead is essential, especially during the busy summer months as big groups tend to take over the seating.

Gruelling But Amazing

This hiking/trekking holiday was an amazing experience which included daily challenging hikes along with the incredible natural beauty of Mont Blanc, its’ valleys and surrounding mountains. Our tour mates, 13 women and one man were all wonderfully kind and supportive of one another as we worked hard to meet our daily hiking challenges. I couldn’t have completed this trip without many weeks of training yet I still found the river crossings and some of the terrain, loose rocks making foot placement challenging, to be at the top end of what I was comfortable with. Thank goodness for my waterproof boots and my tour group which kept a slow and steady pace.

Most Inspirational Moment

The awe-inspiring views all around you when on the trails and realizing the accomplishment of completing many days back to back on such challenging trails. I particularly enjoyed the walk from Switzerland into Italy through the snow.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Egle, was just adequate, and didn't match the quality of any of the other Exodus guides that I've had in the past, in both Europe and Asia. She typically hiked at the head of our group of 14 and for those at the tail of the group, they often went for quite some time without seeing her. Thankfully, we were a cohesive group and we took care of each other. Also, upcoming trail details often weren't adequately conveyed at daily meetings so we were often surprised on the trail with the conditions, terrain, etc. It would have been beneficial to have had two guides (as I experienced on my Exodus Bali trip) for a group that was the maximum size. This guide didn't come close to meeting what I had come to expect from Exodus.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Amazing trip and be sure to do your training. Breakfasts are sometimes sparse so bringing snacks along is helpful. The ladder section on day one was really fun and nothing to worry about. In July, we had fabulous weather with only one day washed out due to thunderstorms in the forecast.

14-day Tour du Mont Blanc Trek

This was a great trekking experience with plenty of good advice available from the Exodus team beforehand in terms of preparation and what to expect. We started in the second week of the trekking season and so encountered a good deal of snow, which for us was a first in terms of trekking. We also had two fairly short ‘river’ crossings, which we had to negotiate and again a first for us. Our group leader was an extremely experienced mountain guide who made a great deal of effort to keep the group focussed on the trail ahead especially when it mattered. Amazing views at the tops of climbs and probably not a good trek for those with a fear of heights!

Most Inspirational Moment

View from the summit of Brévent facing Mont Blanc.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was an extremely experienced mountain guide who made a great deal of effort to keep the group focussed on the trail ahead especially when it mattered.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Probably not a good trek for those with a fear of heights!

Absolutely Stunning

Pictures don’t capture the unreal beauty of this trip! I took them anyway but by our last hiking day I was in tears from the accomplishment, the energy of our group, and the beauty of the valley and mountains. This is a trip of a lifetime!

I always felt I was pretty active but this trip challenged me in ways I wasn’t sure I could finish, but am so happy to say I DID! We left smiles, tears, and friendships in the mountains. Just an incredible experience and our guide, Marià, is a beast who was turning around to do it all over again in 2 days! Absolutely impressive and he was an incredible guide that kept us motivated, safe, and smiling. Only a few Spanish minutes till the top.

Most Inspirational Moment

Our last hiking day when we hit the first hut I was in tears. It was a crystal clear day, the paraglides were out, the flowers were blooming, people were smiling, it was surreal to have so much beauty all around.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring gear you’ll need to be comfortable. Training is important but tenacity takes you where training didn’t. We had folks in our group who barely trained and killed it! I felt ready for each day but having gear to be comfortable in layers was key.

Outstanding hiking trip!

If you’re looking for a fabulous hiking trip around Mont Blanc with a guide, hotel accommodations, nearly all meals included, and luggage transport, Exodus Travels is an excellent choice.

Most Inspirational Moment

Taking in the vast natural beauty of glaciers, mountain peaks, waterfalls ... and making it to the end of each day's hike, happily!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide Mike was superb - knowledgeable, confident and encouraging, with a good sense of humor, and most importantly: he exuded an added measure of leadership and competence the day we had especially challenging conditions of snow, sleet, hail, white-out, and slippery rocks.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Training pays off! The training guide on the Exodus Travels website is helpful. The weather is unpredictable - we had several very hot days, rain and then a day of snow, sleet and hail, so pack for all possibilities.

Brilliant guide, amazing scenery

I’d hiked in the Chamonix area before, so I knew it would be stunning, but the variety of incredible scenery as we went round to the Swiss and Italian sides exceeded my expectations. The weather was extreme – 35 degrees for the first few days, then rain and finally sleet, snow and full-on winter conditions – don’t ignore the trip notes advice on clothing! Our guide, Mike Napier, was exceptional, managing the group with expertise and humour throughout.

Most Inspirational Moment

Completing the circuit, which I'd first started (but failed to finish) 40 years ago.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mike was probably the best leader I've had on any trek. Always good company with plenty of jokes, he took full control when it got tricky in the snow and ice and got us all down safely.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it!
