- Where to Travel in February
We may be nearing the final months of dreary weather before spring hits, but it is still very much winter in Finland perfect for catching the Northern Lights. New Zealand is also one of the best places to travel to in February, thanks to its dry, warm weather which is ideal for trekking.
NICARAGUA & PANAMA
Best for boat trips and snorkelling
February lands right in the middle of the dry, high season in Nicaragua and Panama, which means you’ll see plenty of sunny, balmy days hitting around 30-35°C. On our Cycle Nicaragua, Costa Rica & Panama trip, you’ll have opportunities to cool down on a safari float along the wildlife-rich Tenorio River or a swim in Playa Marsella on the Pacific side of Nicaragua. In Panama, breezy boat trips and snorkelling excursions around the beautiful Bocas del Toro islands is the perfect way to unwind after days on the bike. View our Nicaragua and Panama trip here
CUBA
Enjoy some winter sun in Havana
Even though Cuba is blessed with a tropical climate year-round, it’s best to travel outside hurricane season, so we recommend travelling in February when the temperatures are mild and it’s consistently dry and sunny. These conditions are perfect for cycling through mango groves and past sugarcane plantations, and for enjoying guided walking tours through Trinidad and Havana. If you’re feeling inspired, our Cycling Cuba and Taste of Cuba trips offer the perfect introduction to Cuba. View all our Cuba trips here
FINLAND
Spot the Aurora Borealis in Lapland
One of the best places to travel to in February is Finland. Bringing shorter days and darker nights, late winter can be great for the Northern Lights. Fewer crowds result in less light pollution too which means you’ll have a higher chance of catching them – but it’s not an exact science. Luckily, we have plenty of other winter activities to entertain you like dogsledding, cross-country skiing snowmobiling and more on our Finnish Wilderness Week, Snowshoeing in Finland and Finland Family Winter Adventure. COLOMBIA
Celebrate in the streets of Cartagena
In Colombia, temperatures vary more due to altitude than the season, so you can expect balmy days of up to 33°C in the coastal cities of Cartagena and Santa Clara and highs of 23°C in Medellín. Events like the Cartagena Carnival usually occur in February too, where colourful parades fill the streets for 11 days, marking the countdown to Semana Santa. The weather is also perfect for coffee plantation tours on our Colombia: Culture, Coffee & Caribbean adventure, as it’s the dry season. View all our Colombia trips here
NEW ZEALAND
Admire New Zealand’s mighty waterfalls
February is typically dry and warm in New Zealand, where temperatures range from 22-30°C. Waterfalls in the Milford Sound are particularly impressive this time of year, because of the rainfall in December and January. On our Trails of New Zealand trip, visits to Mount Cook National Park are equally spectacular with their abundance of flora. While our Trekking in New Zealand takes you to the Rob Roy Glacier, in Mount Aspiring National Park, where the native beach forests are vividly green in February. View all our New Zealand trips here
