1. Arenal Volcano: Arenal was Costa Rica’s most active volcano until recently, when it entered a resting phase. There is still geothermal activity in the area though, so you can view the slopes of this sleeping giant while relaxing in the soothing waters of one of the region’s many hot springs.
2. Monteverde:The cloud forests of Monteverde are a lush, misty paradise, home to countless plant species and an amazing array of wildlife, including the notoriously shy, resplendent quetzal. The local reserves have miles of walking trails, and thrill-seekers can strap in for zip lining over the forest canopy.
3. Manuel Antonio National Park: Set on the azure Pacific coast, Manuel Antonio is the smallest of Costa Rica’s many national parks, but it boasts some of the country’s best and most beautiful beaches. The park is known for its more laid-back, relaxing trails where all types of travellers can enjoy the huge variety of plants and animals.
4. Tortuguero: The remote town of Tortuguero, on the Caribbean coast, is one of the world’s major nesting grounds for both green and leatherback turtles. In the nesting seasons (April-May and July-October), you can join a local guide and head on a captivating adventure to see groups of turtles laying eggs in the sand.
What the experts say?
Our holiday tours to Costa Rica combine everything that makes this Central American nation special: soaring scenery, one-of-a-kind nature, and that laid-back, pura vida lifestyle the country is well known for. Our customers and reviewers agree:
“We waited for three years for the Discover Costa Rica trip, and it was so worth the wait. It’s such an amazing country – and you could see the people who worked in the tourism industry went through a lot because of the pandemic, so we were really glad to be there and give back to these communities. We think it was probably one of the best holidays we’ve ever had. It has made a deep and lasting impression on all of us.”
“Costa Rica has innumerable highlights, but my favourite is the Osa Peninsula. In the country’s far south-east, it’s home to scarlet macaws, tapir, squirrel monkeys and jaguars. Its distance from Costa Rica’s better-known gems, such as Manuel Antonio and Arenal, makes it perfect to escape the crowds. We visit on our Natural Highlights of Costa Rica tour. ”
Costa Rica is located towards the bottom of Central America, bordered to the north by Nicaragua and Panama to the south, Caribbean Sea to the east, the Pacific to the west.
