Carpathian Mountains and Bears
A fabulous week in a beautiful location. Gorgeous scenery and lovely countryside to walk in and excellent accommodation.
Most Inspirational Moment
The moment in the bear hide when we saw the first bears appear into the clearing.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Udo was our group leader. He was friendly, approachable and his local knowledge which he was only too willing to impart was excellent.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Listen to your leader! They are the experts. Be prepared for lots of walking over sometimes challenging terrain. It is a mountain area so obviously there is a lot of up and down on rocky ground so make sure you have appropriate footwear.

Carpathian walking and bears
A really fantastic holiday. The first time we had done a group holiday as we usually go independantly. The ages ranged from late 30s to early 70s but all 15 of us got on really well. The accomodation was set in a beautiful part of the mountains and was excellent. The combination of walking and wildlife plus the visits to see how people lived in this area made for a very varied and interesting holiday.
Most Inspirational Moment
Watching as many as eight bears from the hide, some as close as 10 metres away.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Udo, our leader, was excellent. He led the group in a relaxed and friendly manner and had a good sense of humour. He was very knowledgeable about the area and the people and catered for all abilities
Advice for Potential Travellers
Perhaps ring up exodus beforehand to find out the age range and ability of the group,

Carpathian Walking and Bears
This was a very varied week in the Romanian Carpathian mountains. Every day was different and the holiday lived up to and exceeded my expectations. The village where we were based for the week was off the beaten track and very peaceful. We had very good food and accommodation at Villa Hermani in Magura and we were made very welcome. The scenery was stunning and we were able to observe a different way of life in rural Romania.
Most Inspirational Moment
I enjoyed every day but I think the highlight was seeing wild bears from a bear hide in the forest.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Udo was friendly and good company. He had an excellent knowledge of the local flora, fauna and Romanian culture.

Walking in Romanian Carpathian mountains
A fantastic trip shared with some lovely people. The walking was good, the sights were fantastic the 2 trips to see the bears was breathtaking.
Most Inspirational Moment
Watching the bears in the forest hide
Thoughts on Group Leader
The group leader, Thomas, was very good with lots of local knowledge. He was relaxed and friendly joining in with our laughter. He quickly assessed our walking ability and made frequent stops when necessary due to the weather being very hot. First class guide
Advice for Potential Travellers
Relax and enjoy the local culture and breathtaking views, before you set off learn how to switch of all the lights on your camera including the auto focus light on the front if you want to take photos in the bear hide

Carpathian mountains & bears.
A brilliant week that exceeded our expectations. Spectacular walks, great wildlife, lovely accommodation with views to die for, lovely people – we came back re-energised and looking forward to the next one!
Most Inspirational Moment
I loved the day we hiked up into the high pastures of Piatra Craiului and had our picnic lunch (and wild raspberries!) in a forest glade. The bear watching evening was a real treat, too. And Brasov was a lovely little place, and Bran, and so on - nothing disappointed!
Thoughts on Group Leader
Thomas was great, very knowledgeable and passionate about the place. Nothing was too much trouble, available 24/7, very relaxed yet took care of everything and everybody extremely well.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Just do it, you'll love it!

A great series of walks with a knowledgable and fun leader.
Most Inspirational Moment
Seeing wild bears in their own habitat.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Udo was v knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour.
Advice for Potential Travellers
None of the walks were hard but there were plenty of climbs. Bring waterproofs! Don't get too excited about seeing "Dracula's" castle.

Romania with the bears
Tranquil, beautiful and unspoilt countryside and mountains
Most Inspirational Moment
Bran Castle is an absolutely gem of Arts and Crafts style palace. Sensational. We really liked the Saxon village and having drinks with the priest. The shepherds and the cheesemakers. The guest house was perfect. I really enjoyed just walking along in hot sunshine enjoying the place, the people and the view.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Unusual and sometimes a bit scatty. But generally knowledgeable and jolly.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Take a variety of walking boots and shoes. I mainly wore trainers which were fine. Bring wet weather gear. The restaurants and shops are quite cheap so you don't need much local money. The guest house offers a massage.

Walking and Wildlife in a Stunning, Isolated Setting
This part of Romania is truly breath-taking. Nestled within the Carpathian Mountains, you will not come across any other tourists as you walk through incredible scenery, bumping into shepherds with their herds of sheep and goats, spotting yellow-bellied toads and seeing the odd bear paw-print. A visit to Dracula’s Castle, the city of Brasov and the bear hide trip were all highlights as well, and it was a memorable trip that is recommended for those who like walking and wildlife.
Most Inspirational Moment
The most inspirational moment was watching 8 wild bears look for food in the bear hide, and watching as a playful cub tried to suckle from its mother.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Udo was a fun, informative and friendly group leader. He was always ready to help out anyone with their questions and had a playful manner as well which was refreshing. He also knew his stuff!
Advice for Potential Travellers
Walking poles might be needed as some of the walks can be tough, especially downhill. Overall, just take in the wonderful scenery and enjoy it!

Carpathian Walking and Bears
A great trip with a good selection of walks, wildlife and culture in a wonderful setting.
Most Inspirational Moment
Seeing wild bears in a natural setting from the safety of a hide. We had the good fortune to see five bears at one time and four bears a little later on - we believe we saw at least 7 or 8 different bears. We also saw a fox. Our trip was spoilt by the weather - we only had three dry days, but this did not stop us exploring Dracula's Castle, sharing schnapps with a priest and riding in a horse-drawn cart before sharing tea and biscuits with a monk!
Thoughts on Group Leader
Thomas was fun and shared his passion for his surroundings, even dressing in his Saxon clothing on the last night of our trip.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Be prepared for the itinerary to change - this is done for a reason when taking the weather into account - but everything is included.
