Lots of bears and beautiful scenery
A great week with good company. The hotel is in a beautiful area, surrounded by green hills and pastures. The walks were very good, some quite steep and long, but with plenty of breaks to get your breath back. It was lovely to see the rural life and learn about the history of the area and country.
Most Inspirational Moment
Seeing the wild bears from the hide in the woods and the horse and cart ride with the one month old foal trotting beside us.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Udo was excellent, very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. Good sense of humour.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Whilst the hotel was excellent, staff and food good, there were 3 dogs chained up outside and they barked intermittently throughout the night, so it was hard to get a good night's sleep. Would denitely advise taking earplugs. Also walking poles very useful on the rough mountain paths.
A couple of the days were very long and a long time between meals, so be prepared and take snacks.

Excellent trip to a beautiful country
This trip is good mixture of walking and relaxation. Romania is certainly off the beaten track for most Brits but it’s certainly worth a look. This trip to Transylvania includes several walks through stunning country-side and is a mixture of long walks (8 hrs) and shorter (3hr) “strolls”. There’s plenty of time for admiring the scenery.
Most Inspirational Moment
The bear-watching was pretty special.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Very good.
Advice for Potential Travellers
This holiday will be fine for anyone who does some walking back at home. There are a couple of longer days but nothing particularly difficult. The weather up on the mountains can turn on a sixpence so I recommend you take waterproofs. Most of our party had poles but I'm not sure they were really necessary.

Highly recommended
I think my only complaint was that a week didn’t seem like long enough. The scenery was absolutely stunning, the food delicious (and plenty of it) and the walks difficult enough to be challenging without breaking us.
Most Inspirational Moment
Hearing a wolf howl one evening. Hearing this sound coming out of the forest, in the dark, was genuinely spine-tingling.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Brilliant. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around.

Carpathian Culture and Wildlife
A great 8 day trip, I just wish it could have been longer. We got to see 5 bears which far exceeded my expectations. A beautiful areas to walk in where time seems to have stood still. Fantastic food and accommodation.
Most Inspirational Moment
Sitting in a bear hide watching 5 bears rip a wild boar to shreds whilst a fox watched waiting for the scraps.

Ugo our leader was one of the best. That's saying something after 17 trips. Very witty, full of local knowledge and he showed that he really cared about the local people.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Not much flat so put in some miles before the trip to get the most out of it.

A lovely holiday in beautiful countryside.
Most Inspirational Moment
Seeing the brown bears.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Thomas was extremely knowledgeable about Romania and anxious to help us understand the Carpathian history. He was also aware of the needs of the group and allowed us some flexibility where he could regarding walking speed as there were differences in the group. He had many local contacts which enhanced my enjoyment as I love meeting local people. My only slight criticism is the amount of time that he spent on his phone.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Be prepared for rain and, when it does rain, oh boy does it rain! The bird watching was mind numbingly boring so, if you don't like bird watching, take a book! There were enough of us that didn't want to do the bird watching to go back to the hotel but it wasn't allowed.....
The trip notes are extremely accurate and you do need a certain level of fitness to access the walking.

Carpathian Mountains Rumania
This was a wonderful holiday in every respect, one that we will remember for many years. The scenery, location, food, company were all great. The villa and it’s hosts were superb – could not have been better. Nothing was too much trouble and they were so friendly and helpful.
It was fabulous to meet new people and share the experience with them – great fun and exhilarating.
Most Inspirational Moment
Great sense of achievement after the long walks with breath taking scenery. Loved the bear watching and walking through the gorge.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. Very reassuring to have around and a great guy all round!
Advice for Potential Travellers
You DO need proper walking boots and waterproofs. Generally the weather is warm and sunny but with very heavy usually short lived rainfall in the afternoon/evening. Be prepared!

Very pleasant
This was my first ever Exodus trip. And first classified walking trip.
The carpathian mountains were beautiful Early June was exceptionally hot and sunny.
The walks were sometimes steep up or down knee length grass.
Most Inspirational Moment
I was super impressed by how friendly the group were. I was also more relevantly impressed by Katarina the hostess at the hotel. Everything was checked and double checked that it was ok. On one day my husband was unwell - his fault no one else. We were walking and Katarina came out in her car to pick him up. Then mothered him to ensure he got better.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Udo was very competent, and good fun.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Be aware that early summer can be very hot. And some slopes are steep. may need poles.

Some of the walking is quite steep- take good strong walking shoes, and more importantly cover for your head in the summer!! The sun can really beat down!

Relaxing Holiday in Transylvania
A one week holiday staying at one well run boutique hotel. The location was quiet and beautiful. An idyllic setting for some fun and sometimes vigorous hikes over the hills.
Most Inspirational Moment
I really adored the walking through the meadows of wild flowers. I was just lucky I chose to go beginning of June. Meadows in full flower and the weather was glorious.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Udo Krause our tour leader was a large lump of a hiker with a mix of wildlife photographer. He lead the goup well and he was totally qualified and experienced to explain all flora & fauna.
Advice for Potential Travellers
A lunchbox has been mentioned by other reviews. Its good to carry your diy sandwiches.
During our time in June the sun was baking, do not under estimate dehydration ad sun burn.
