The otherworldly Blue Lagoon in Iceland is the world’s best-known geothermal spa. Minerals in the water render it a milky blue, and with the temperature in the swimmable area around 40C, clouds of steam rise from the surface. Bubbling up from subterranean sources, the soothing, mineral-rich water has curative powers – an afternoon wallowing in the waters turns your skin silky soft.
