AMALFI COAST: POMPEII & PIZZA - FAMILY HOLIDAY

If you are thinking about booking this holiday just do it – you won’t regret it.

Most Inspirational Moment

Our 8 year old son would say watching football with the Italian family who owned the hotel! We particularly enjoyed the walk of the gods and the superb barbecue, visiting Pompeii, and swimming in the sea with the beautiful background of Positano.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Paula could not have done more for us. She even came with us on her day off to show us round Naples! She was very enthusiastic. She got on well with everyone and ensured we all gelled together. She was very informative and great fun. Paula got on well with the children and ensured that they were well catered for. We would recommend her most highly and would be interested in undertaking other tours she may lead.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Relax, go with the flow, take lots of cash with you to pay tips etc.

ATLAS DESCENT

A really interesting trip which has something for every type of cyclist, from rough trails to fast smooth tarmac.  The scenery is stunning and so varied.

Liz is a great leader.  I had 100% faith in her at all times.  She is very practical beng able to easily fix any problem with the bikes.  She was always checking the bikes, pre-empting any problems.  A great bonus is that she knows the trails inside out.  The leader could make or break a trip, and Liz certainly made the trip the great success it was.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't worry about anything as Exodus has done the trip so many times that everything is taken care of.  You need to be reasonably fit and not too timid for some of the trails.

THE AMALFI COAST

Good mix of classic history and walking.

Most Inspirational Moment

Views to Capri and Positano on the Walk of the Gods

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fantastic. Christine's knowledge of the area added tremendously to the enjoyment of the walking.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Limber up your knees!

CYCLE MOROCCO'S GREAT SOUTH

A well organised and enjoyable trip for cyclists with a good base level of fitness.

Most Inspirational Moment

Some of the descents were awesome, but I also enjoyed the challenge of some of the climbs and the sense of achievement

Thoughts on Group Leader

I thought Richie was a very good group leader - he was very professional and took things like health and safety and bike maintenance seriously but at the same time he was good fun and always upbeat and encouraging.    He had good local knowledge and was always keen to share tips to help the group improve their cycling.   He was very organised so we always knew exactly what was happening each day, what time we had to meet and where etc so the trip ran very smoothly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It’s a holiday and not the Tour de France, but you definitely do need a good base level of fitness to complete this trip as there are several climbs.  Being confident that you can control a bike is also important as there are some fast descents with sharp corners. You don't have to be an expert cyclist to enjoy this trip but for your own enjoyment and that of others on the trip I would definitely advise doing some training for this trip and make sure you are realistically fit enough to cycle 70km per day for 6 days otherwise you might struggle or hold other people in the group back. Overall I would say the trip is most suitable for intermediate level cyclists, ie those who cycle a bit at home but are not too serious about it.  I think beginners might struggle (unless they are very fit and confident, in which case they would be ok) and advanced cyclists might find the pace of the group too slow (although they could still enjoy the trip as a relaxing way to explore a new country)  Take some warm clothes as its cold in the mountains, especially at night. If you want to read at night, take a torch as most of the hotels you stay in don't have very powerful lights and its hard to read. The hotel in Marrakech is quite noisy so take ear plugs!

CYCLING VIETNAM

What a blast! This has to be one of the best holidays I’ve had; the moments of comedy genius still make me chuckle. Hopefully ‘the Journal’ will be published, but I guess ‘you had to be there’. They say people make the holiday – and it’s true. The leader and his team, together with my fellow adventurers, made it a truly memrable time. everyone shoudl have a holiday like this.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing us all conquer the Hai Van Pass. Brilliant!!Cycling through the villages - with high 5's from the kids, as we past, and hearing them laugh at the 'long noses' (us). Truly uplifting, and I felt honoured to be cycling through this amazing country

Thoughts on Group Leader

Long - he was great; really interested to give us the history of the areas; laughed with us. whenever I see a fish market, it will remind me of him. He seemed to be keen to show us one in every town!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Yes - take a head camera, so that you can film the 33km 1500m descent (Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park.) Truly awesome 1 hour downhill .WOW

LAND OF THE TIGER

If you’ve been to India before then this is a bit different. The National Parks are beautiful and this is a relaxing trip away from the craziness of the cities. However there is an early start every single day and there are two long overnight train trips. The first is an "experience" the second a bit tiresome. Hotels were generally good and the food was excellent. Take snacks though as it is a long time between meals. Of course the highlight of the trip is tigers. They are fantastic (although there seem to be a lot less of them this year than normal) and the other wildlfie is a bonus. Great trip!

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing a tiger getting ready to pounce!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take snacks and get plenty of sleep beforehand.

CYCLE CILENTO & AMALFI

My partner Paul and I had a fantastic time on this cycling holiday. The group are still exchanging photos several weeks after returning home and it is lovely to see all those smiling faces each time. The cycling, company, accomodation and food were all spectacular. Thanks again to our cycle guide Peter for his enthusiastic and inclusive approach.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling in it, is a lovely way to discover more about  a country

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was great. Really went beyond the call of duty to make us all welcome and to get to know the local areas. As well as the cycling he had much to tell us about the history, culture and food of each area we cycled to.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just enjoy yourselves. Join in with the group, you will want to anyway.

KENYA & TANZANIA ADVENTURE

By far the best holiday I’ve been on. Fantastic wildlife (lucky to see the safari big 6), the culture – visit to local masai village, tour of Stone town and spice tour in Zanzibar. The Exodus crew (Chris, Tutu and Samy) and the whole group made it even better. Not sure if I’ll get tired of talking about this to my friends. Just book your place & enjoy a holiday of a lifetime.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many so here a just a few: Lake Naivasha (seeing hippos), farm walk (being very close to zebras and giraffes), Lake Nakuru NP (rhinos, lions being within metres of our truck), sunset at Lake Victoria, Serengeti Park (all the wildlife and especially elephants, cheetahs, leopards), stories by the fire at the campsite in the Serengeti Park, Ngorongoro crater, Arusha - Masai Museum, Marangu - banana & coffee plantation/visiting the local school, waterfall and the local market. To finish Zanzibar with tour of Stone town & spice tour, seeing the sunset from Africa House balcony having a refreshing cocktail. At Amaan Bungalows (north on Zannzibar where you will spend your last two of the holiday) you have to visit the Mnarani turtle sanctuary - 15 minutes walk on the beach.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The crew - Chris, Tutu and Samy - were fantastic. Friendly, helpful, plenty of stories, fun moments. Even when the truck broke down on our way out of Serengeti, they pulled all the stops to get us to our next destinations - Ngorongoro crater and Arusha - no noticeable inconvience to us, it was just another adventure.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just book it.In Tanzania & Zaanzibar you get a better exchange rate for your dollar with larger notes ($100 and $50) then with smaller ones ($20, $10, $5). Is only a few tens of Tanzanian shillings but it will add up. At Amaan Bungalows you can take cash out on your cash card from the reception but at the US dollar exchange rate.In Stone town, Zanzibar, if you like a curry recommend going for a meal at The Silk Route. At Amaan Bungalows - you have to try the Steak and lobster and also the Hakuna Matata cocktail. But beware of the banana beer - you've tasted better. Is not to everyone taste ;)

THE ZAMBEZI VALLEY

What an amazing adventure! It’s tough and scary at times but so very worth it!

Most Inspirational Moment

I don't know which bit to pick, it could have been sitting in a canoe with two lions up on the bank above us, or being so close to the elephants as they stood feeding on the bank, maybe it was watching the beautiful Carmine Bee Eaters nesting in the river banks or on a more human note the faces of the children we met at the village. I do know that it wasn't the hippos - mean big scary beasties they are! Also sitting on the sand bank, cold beer in hand, watching the last rays of the sun with new friends comes pretty close.

Thoughts on Group Leader

CB and Carlos - well there aren't enough words to describe how exceptionally good these two guys are. CB is a very experienced guide, good with people, so knowledgeable and with a wicked sense of humour. Carlos is training and has his finals next year. A brilliant cook - he kept us all well fed throughout the trip on very limited cooking equipment. He also has a great sense of humour and a very infectious giggle. The two of them kept us safe for the entire trip despite some close encounters with the hippos. They were a great credit to Exodus and the training they have received.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't pack too much - we did as always!! Take some unwanted clothes to give to both the village and the orphanage. Book the BA or South African flights you will get there on time and with your bags! The group flight is with Kenyan Airways - it was late and one of our group had no bag, it arrived 5 days later.

HIGHLIGHTS OF MOROCCO

Amazing experience, certainly no time to be bored!

Most Inspirational Moment

Ours was another wonderful group. The desert and mountains were for me the most memorable, though for some of us the much anticipated camel ride and desert sleepover transposed into an ambulance ride through the sahara; such a pity! The Auberge in the Sahara is a wonderful place to be; somewhere I would love to return to and have more time to enjoy. The walk in Todra Gorge was fantastic. Couldn't make the walk from the gite but others said that was brilliant too. I loved Volubilis

Thoughts on Group Leader

LHoucine was fantastic, caring, patient and knowledgeableour driver Abdul also deserves a special mentionThankyou to them both
