Cycling Vietnam

Holiday of a lifetime! A well used phrase, but our cycling holiday in Vietnam was. We have canoed major rivers in Germany, France and the UK; walked in the Alps, Pyrenees, atlas mountains and throughout the UK, but nothing prepared us for what we did and saw in Vietnam. The depth and knowledge of our guide for the cycling and the history of Vietnam, the sight seeing, the villages and the cities, we couldn’t believe how much we did in our two weeks. All our friends are so jealous when we show them the photos and tell them about it.

Most Inspirational Moment

To see all the happy children and smiling faces despite, to our European way of thinking, they had very little. Every child was a photograph worth taking.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Brilliant, never short of ideas and support, knew all our names (eighteen of us) very quickly. I would go again with this man.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do the holiday before Western money spoils some of the best bits.

Cycling in Vietnam

A great trip. Great country, great people, cycling excellent, and just right for me, good hotels and excellent company. The Leader, mechanic, bus and van drivers on this trip surpass excellence in their behaviour and skills.
The bikes were of highest quality, well maintained and in good condition.
Mechanic, Li, was an excellent cyclist, always there to give a “tow” when required.

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing Hoi Van Pass. Coping with Vietnamese roundabouts. Cycling into and around Hue. Vietnamese beer at 50p a pint!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lam was first class. Always attentive. Knowledgeable. In sympathy with cycling. He had an excellent team, along with mechanic and the 2 drivers. He led them well, and they were excellent in everything they did.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go on this trip. You will enjoy every aspect of it.

Cycling Vietnam

I booked this on a bit of a whim and then realised i smoked like a trooper and was extremely unfit and hadnt been on a bike for nearly 20 years! . Soon as I realised what i was about to do i quit smoking and got on a bike … what a favor i had done myself!

Most Inspirational Moment

I took inspiration form so many things on this trip. Amazing culture/people , the children running to greet you in far out villages , everything was incredible. How is it possible to have a new best day everyday?? I still havent smoked 7 months on and i commute to work on a bike now everyday :)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lam was AMAZING! nothing was every a problem, everything always OK he sorted everything! never been on a tour holiday ever, certainly not like this either, the bus driver, van driver who carries the bikes and the mechanic all amazing guys who can not do enough to make your trip amazing, they are a true credit to this travel company.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As others have said, if your thinking about it then just book it, i promise you will love every waking minute of your holiday, worth every penny i paid. Do get them cycling legs in order before you go, its worth having some miles under your belt, it caters for ALL levels of cycling but certainly better enjoyed the fitter your legs are. If your worrying like i did before i went dont, you do not need to be Brdley Wiggins to love this holiday.

Wonderful adventure and experience

I honestly can not recommend this holiday highly enough. The cycling was fantastic even though it was very hot. You don’t have to worry about a thing as everything is taken care of. I have never done so much, saw so much and met so many nice people in such a short space of time.

Most Inspirational Moment

Honestly all of it. Loved cycling through the small villages. Locals love to see you and are so friendly. Halong bay was amazing. Every day brought something different. So many fantastic memories.

Amazing. Danh really made this holiday for us. He is so enthuastic. He was a mother hen looking after his chicks. Danh really could not have done anything more for us and really goes above and beyond his duties to make sure everyone is happy. He is an absolute credit to your company. He is very proud of his country and has a mountain of knowledge he loves to share. He encouraged us every part of the cycle even cycling back down hills to encourage people to the top. He definitely is a happy Buddha only now without the belly and has such a cheeky laugh which we heard frequently. The bus driver and mechanics were wonderful as well. The minute you stopped for a break they were straight over taking your bike and cold drink at the ready. The bus driver was always smiling.

Cycling in Vietnam Mar/April 2014

The trip was the most memorable trip we have ever done, from morning til night we had the best fun together as a group. The guide we had Long Le was worth his weight in gold, without him it might not have been as enjoyable. He also had the most efficient back up team, i.e the bus driver, the mechanic and the van driver, all were top class. We wanted for nothing and the service provided by all exceeded everyone’s expectation.

Most Inspirational Moment

Learning the history of the country and what the people in Vietnam have gone through in the past, and they show no bitterness, very positive people. We enjoyed the tunnels.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Long was the "man of the match", he could not do enough for us all, was on hand to help with every need big or small anyone had. Did it with a big smile on his face! Enjoyed his company very much, had great fun with him, we were all sad to say good-bye!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Need to have a certain level of fitness to really enjoy themselves, nothing to worry about though as there is plenty back up available if needs be.

Cycling Vietnam

This was our first Exodus and cycling holiday and had just the most amazing time. It was a wonderful way to see the country.

Most Inspirational Moment

There was something inspirational every single day; from cycling through villages; the people; the food; the traffic and spectacular scenery. We both managed the Hai Van pass which was a great achievement. Every day was special.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Danh - what can I say, he was the best; his knowledge and love for his country; his infectious laugh; nothing was ever too much trouble and everything ran incredibly smooth. It was very well organised thanks to him. He is amazing. Cannot praise him enough.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take good padded shorts and there are laundry stops so you do not need to take loads. Be prepared for very long days and definitely get some cycling training in. We wish we had stayed an extra night in Hanoi.

CYCLING VIETNAM

Great trip, nice way to see the country

Most Inspirational Moment

many! halong bay! crossing streets in saigon! vietnamese coffee! vietnamese markets! all of the above!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chi was great! optimistic, encouraging, funny, easygoing! it was just a pleasure to have a guy like this with us!

Advice for Potential Travellers

take padded shorts! (the bottom will hurt anyway, but maybe a bit less so)

CYCLING VIETNAM

This trip exceeded my expectations. Met a great group of people, travelled the length of Vietnam on all sorts of transport, had some wonderful food and were looked after by Lam and the rest of the gang….

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of the Hai Van Pass. I was determined to do it and with the help of Lam who stayed by my side encouraging me all the way.....Other members of the group were at the top cheering me on...The downhill part was great fun to..Halong Bay was beautiful as was the boat and we had a fantastic evening. One of our group did a little presentation highlighting some of the things that had happened to a few of us - this had us all screaming with laughter. A lovely ending to the holiday

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lam and the rest of the team were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble and their favourite saying was "No Problem"

Advice for Potential Travellers

I think a reasonable level of fitness is required and perhaps a little experience of cycling up hills!!!  Your stamina will improve over the course of the holiday (mine certinly did). There are opportunities to get laundry done along the route so travel light.....

CYCLING VIETNAM

Cycling Vietnam was brilliant!  Such a great way to see a country and experience the culture.  Loved it all and had the best time!

Most Inspirational Moment

Where do I start......I really enjoyed all of the cycling especially up Hai Van Pass and then down again.  The 30km descent from 1600m was pretty cool too.  Ha Long Bay was spectacular and kayaking was fun.  Even the overnight train was a enjoyable experience!   Loved the food too!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Danh was the best leader ever of the best group ever!  Having never done a tour like this before I was so impressed with how well it was organised.  Whilst Danh ensured our safety at all times he was also great fun!  Danh made the tour worry free, and the whole support team was amazing.  I can't rate Danh and the team highly enough.  The group was fantastic too!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book it today!  This trip exceeded all of my expectations.  It helped to have done some "training" before hand which made the trip more enjoyable.

CYCLING VIETNAM

A fantastic and rewarding way of seeing Vietnam. Well organised.  Great bunch of people on the trip. An unfortgettable experience. The bikes were very sturdy and the variety of cycling routes was excellent.I am glad I chose this holiday as you get to see the real Vietnam by cycling through the villages. The trip was quite intensive with only 2 days rest but this is the only way of seeing Vietnam in 2 weeks.

Most Inspirational Moment

Many. Cycling through the villages with paddy fields and mountain scenery. Meeting very friendly vietnamese people and lots of high 5's with the kids.   Cycling up and down the pass was just inspirational. Hoi An is a beautiful traditional place. Loved all the lanterns hanging up.  Ha long Bay is touristy yes but has to be seen and ticked off. An amazing place. Food is just so delicious. Missing it already.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leaded Lam and the support team could not be faulted. They put so much work into the holiday to ensure everything went smoothly. I felt sorry for him as he was bombarded with so many questions but he coped admirably.  Not sure about some of his jokes though.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it. Make sure you do some cycling before you come. Don't take too much stuff.  There are plenty of opportunities for laundry. Bring immodium, wet wipes.  Take padded cycling shorts and lightweight tops. Fleece needed for Ha Long Bay if you go November-December. It was quite cold when we were there. Hoi An is a good place for measured suits and leather jackets. Just have an idea of a style before you get there. Wireless in every hotel so no issue with comms. Cambodia and Ankor Wat is easily done before the trip. It was only 1 hours plane journey from Siem Reap to Ho Chi Minh. Suggest spending extra time before/after the trip if you have time.
