Bolivia can be challenging with poor infrastructure, unpaved roads and high altitudes, but it is so worth the effort. From the lowlands to the highlands, the scenery shifts, yet it is always impressive and can be like nowhere else. From the historical district in Sucre, the mines in Potosi, the chaos of La Paz and the serenity in Lake Titicaca and especially Salar de Uyuni, it’s just one day of discovery and insight after the other.

Adventure Holidays in La Paz
Surrounded by mountains, high above Lake Titicaca, few cities reach the heights of La Paz. Near the border of Peru and Bolivia, it sits 3,640m above sea level and there’s more than a touch of eccentricity to the city. Cable cars alleviate the worst of the somewhat chaotic traffic at street level and cholitas top their traditional dress with bowler hats. There’s a burgeoning hipster scene too, with coffee shops, craft beer and street-food stalls flourishing. Towering over the city is the glacier-topped Cordillera Real, making the city a great base for trekkers wishing to acclimatise and explore the many mountain routes nearby.

Stanley Fine Highlights of Bolivia
Alec Packham Highlights of BoliviaBolivia is an amazing country, well worth visiting and certainly worth putting near the top of the list of places to go. It exceeded our expectations and delivered an wonderful experience; the landscapes, the history, the culture, everything about the trip was just so good. It is such a shame it is only a two week trip, spending an extra day in the Atacama Desert and additional time in La Paz and Sucre would have been wonderful, we would happily have spent three weeks enjoying just the Highlights of Bolivia.
