A memorable trip with a lovely group!
A thoroughly enjoyable tour which enabled us to experience the different regions of this beautiful country together with its amazing and varied wildlife.
Everything ran smoothly and the (many!) early starts were a great idea meaning that we could visit places whilst they were still quiet and uncrowded.
Our driver, Randall, was extremely friendly, helpful and skilful in his role – a great asset to the trip overall.

Many moments…..!
Exploring the quiet waterways of Tortuguero.
Early morning swimming in the pool of the waterfall at La Fortuna.
Seeing the cloud formations at the Continental Divide.
Walking/swimming at the deserted beaches of Manuel Antonio NP.
Experiencing the relative isolation of the Savegre valley….and more!!
Thoughts on Group Leader
Andres was an exceptional group leader - the best mix of educator and entertainer. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about flora and fauna and we learned so much about the rich biodiversity of Costa Rica.
He also kept us interested and amused with information about culture, politics, education and more personal tales, when his sense of humour shone through.
He was very concerned for our safety and well being, making sure we were always aware of any potential dangers/problems.
Advice for Potential Travellers
As advised in the notes, pack for a variety of weathers. We were lucky and had mostly lovely warm/hot weather but also a few cooler days with the inevitable rain when waterproofs were useful.
There are a couple of opportunities for doing laundry as items do take a long time to dry.

Introduction to the island, its people and the wildlife.
We saw a lot of wildlife due to the skill of our guides. By the end of the holiday we were able to spot the birds and animals ourselves. Kept busy with many activities and group meals. We felt privileged to see such rare animals in their own habitat in disappearing rainforest.
Most Inspirational Moment
On the river Kinabatangan we were able to see the orangutans, horn bills, prob is us monkey and many birds in the wild. It was much better than seeing them at the feeding platforms.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Rony was excellent throughout being helpful, sociable and knowledgeable. He had the skill as group leader which meant he included everyone in all the activities. I am profoundly deaf but was able to take part and with support hear the talks. He explained the culture and context of the wildlife as well as the bare facts. We really felt looked after.
Advice for Potential Travellers
It was not necessary to have leech socks if you had long socks to tuck your trousers into. It was essential however to have insect repellent and to pack a light suitcase. You are moving regularly and the packing needs to be minimum.

BORNEO WILDLIFE
An excellent introduction into Borneo wildlife. We were a group of 8 and spent a fascinating two weeks discovering the birds and animals of Borneo. Great accommodation and and excellent guide.
Most Inspirational Moment
Snorkelling near KK - beautiful fish and coral plus a large turtle
Thoughts on Group Leader
Roni was great - always informative and incredibly enthusiastic. Took us to lots of interesting places to eat and made sure we saw a huge variety of wildlife.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Take two water bottles - it is hot and humid. Walking poles also useful. Be prepared for long and often bumpy rides - the roads outside the cities are not great. While this trip concentrated on wild-life spotting, there is also amazing vegetation with flowers and funghi - don't just look up, there is a lot to see when you look down as well!

Severio
Advice for Potential Travellers
Itinerary can change depending in the weather so “go with the flow” as even the group leader can’t summon up the sunshine.
Do the Mount Vesuvius crater …it really isn’t that scary and those in my group who didn’t do it were so disappointed when we fed back to them about how accessible it is.
A good level of fitness is required as there are a lot of steps!!

Alejandro Rodriquez was an excellent and very passionate leader. He was extremely knowledgeable about his country it’s history, it’s eco policy and education surrounding this, the fauna, wildlife and its people. He mixed well with the group and was highly regarded by all and was well respected. He chose lovely places to eat and was always available to help. He had a great sense of humour and is a true ambassador for his country and Exodus.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Take water proof shoes for wet landings and waterproof bags.

Cycling Vietnam
A very special trip! The trip from briefing in HCM to end in Hanoi was very enjoyable and very well organised. I felt looked after on and off the bike. Wonderful mix of rural Vietnam, busy places and tourist attractions .
You always knew which way to go, rest stops were a joy. Lemonade, fruit and other treats to taste.
We had mountain bikes rather than hybrids. They were lovely bikes and fabulous to ride.
Most Inspirational Moment
Hard to choose a best moment as there were so many for different reasons. Dalat downhill was phenomenal countryside.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Loc Phan was amazing and thoughtful. As was his team. We got to try many local fruits and foods. The team were really sweet, handed you a glass of lemonade and took the bike off you on a rest stop. Lunches were included and they were fabulous. Evening meal restaurants and other recommended places by Loc were all really good. It was a big group of 18 but oddly it felt smaller which was down to organisation.
The bus we travelled in was spotless and comfortable.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Highly recommend. Holiday is full on. Days off the bike are perfectly timed and placed. Early starts with some days where you have to pack a smaller bag. We had booked 1 extra day in HCM and Hanoi to allow time to see these two cities. We did not manage to do a Mekong Delta tour which would have been nice if we had 2 additional days in HCM.
You don't need to bring any snacks:)

A varied and enjoyable trip along the Garden Route from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town
An enjoyable and interesting insight into South Africa with varied landscapes and experiences. Three game drives at the start with lots of wildlife – elephants, lions and many other animals to see in beautiful locations. We enjoyed stunning mountain and semi-desert scenery, the wild cape coast and the city life and scenery of Cape Town.
Accommodation was good throughout the trip– clean, good facilities and well located in each location. The accommodation and food at House Martin Lodge was excellent. We used a large minibus which was spacious enough for our needs and was safely driven by our guide. Our couple of long drives but the scenery helped and regular stops were arranged.
Meals and food were varied and good throughout the trip and we were able to experience different types of South African food.
Most Inspirational Moment
The tour had lots of highlights - an amazing trip to Schotia Game Reserve where we saw a stunning range of animals, the semi desert area of the Little Karoo around De Rust ( wonderful accommodation and food at House Martin Lodge ) and the Cango Caves, the coastal scenery at Storms River and Hermanus and the Cape Peninsula drive including the penguins, Robben Island, Table Mountain and the Waterfront of Cape Town.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Our tour driver and guide was Marco Olivier from Mask Expeditions. He made the trip run smoothly down to the very last detail and had a great sense of humour. Most travel days were broken up with adequate rest and scenic stops and even a fun quiz on the long drive. His local knowledge of nature, wildlife and the culture and history of South Africa was good and he was happy to share and discuss it with us. He was helpful with sorting the optional activities and other arrangements especially in Cape Town.
Advice for Potential Travellers
It is a pity that the Schotia Game Reserve is not an 'included' part of the tour as it is one of the 'must do' activities. Make sure that you have enough Rands at the start of the trip as it is cheaper to pay by cash rather than card.
Our time in Mossel Bay was limited and rushed. If possible discuss with the group an early leaving time which would create more time - we left at 9.30am whereas 8.00am would have been better.
Minor point - there is no tea / coffee / milk in the accommodation at Storms River. Worth arranging a quick 'shop' stop enroute to buy some.
If you have time book an extra couple of nights in Cape Town. We enjoyed a relaxing two days in Cape Town at the end which was a great way to finish the trip.
