Stunning views. Fabulous food

We had a wonderful 5 days walking parts of the TMB with exodus. Our guide Mark was extremely experienced and knowledgeable. As a slower walker I found some aspects of the walks a little bit challenging but Mark was accommodating and encouraging as were other members of the group.
Back at the chalet our wonderful hosts Sarah and Rich made our stay most comfortable. Sarah is a brilliant chef and her 3 course dinners were up there with the best restaurants we’ve been to.

Most Inspirational Moment

It's just too hard to decide. The views are outstanding but the flowers were delightful too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Terrific. Knowledgeable and experienced (and amazingly fit).

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do some training (there us a recommended training guide) as better fitness will make your walk more enjoyable. And be prepared for some long up and down hills.

Mont Blanc High Lights

Really enjoyed this trip ,lots of good point’s – here’s a few
Firstly we had brilliant weather the whole week so we did all the walks and saw all the sights in glorious sunshine.
Secondly the chalet and our hosts were superb ,the food was delicious and plentiful all week.
Thirdly our walk leader was very capable and gave a sense of security and safety throughout the trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Probably achieving all the walks without too many aches and pains .

Thoughts on Group Leader

As previously stated he was very capable and made sure the group were safe at all times. He explained the routes/plan on an evening for the next day so we all knew what was ahead of us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Early October when i went was pretty quiet in Chamonix on a night but this was compensated for by having great weather during the day which i've heard is not unusual.

Mont Blanc Highlights

I did this trip during the last week in September and the weather was great every day. A well organised trip and everything went to schedule. Comfortable chalet and excellent meals in the evening.

Most Inspirational Moment

Everyday had its highlight. The Aiguille de Midi on our rest day was spectacular and the hot chocolate and ice cream in Italy were delicious.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mark obviously knew the hills like the back of his hand. we kept a good pace each day, had great views and got plenty of information about the areas we were in.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are used to walking the hills in the Lake District then you will be fine with this trip. Don't forget your swimsuit/trunks for the hot tub.

Mont Blanc Highlights

Very enjoyable week with lovely people. Beautiful scenery in a stunning location.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking in the Alps looking at the glaciers, just beautiful. On our free day we did the cable car up to Aguille Di Midi it was amazing, and definitely worth doing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mark was an excellent leader, always chatting and telling us funny stories. He made sure everyone was looked after and always kept the group together up the mountain.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Improve your fitness before you go, some of the accents and decents are quite steep. The fitter you are the more you will enjoy it.

Mont Blanc Highlights

A thoroughly enjoyable week – spectacular walking with an interesting and varied group of fellow guests; very comfortable accommodation in the chalet; delightful and welcoming hosts (Sarah and Rich); fantastic food; easy access to the lovely town of Chamonix.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were so many! Of course the views - helped by ( generally) sunny but coolish, ideal walking, weather. The day in Italy above Courmeyer was particularly stunning. It has definately inspired me to do more walking in mountainous terrain. An unexpected pleasure was the amazing cooking of our Chalet hosts. The evening meal quickly became one of my most keenly anticipated events of the day!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was friendly and congenial company. He was clearly very experienced, having worked in the region for a number of years, which ensured that I felt safe and well supported while we were in the mountains. He provided lots of information both prior to the walks as well as during them. He was supportive of the 'weaker' members of the group but also made it clear when he thought a particular walk was beyond our capabilities.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walking is not particuarly technically difficult (hence the 3 rating) but it is physically challenging. I would have said that I was reasonably fit and did some additional training in preparation but I struggled (and generally failed) to maintain the pace set by the rest of the group. Between them my fellow walkers had climbed Kilimanjaro, walked the Annapurna Circuit and Inca Trail and trekked to Everest Base Camp! A The central base does allow for the possibility of ducking out of the most strenuous days and our guide provided directions to alternative, less demanding trails when required.

September week in Chamonix

Beautiful hikes in wonderful Chamonix! Charming chalet with wonderful hosts (Sarah & Rich) and great cooking! Not luxury accommodation, but ok for the purpose. Tt was the end of the season, so not perfect weather but good enough. Well-planned hiking week. The only complaint is the same breakfast and the same lunch bread & meats every day, no variation – as well as the coffee: I was expecting great darkroast French cafe au lait at the chalet, but was offered weak British-style (?) coffee.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hiking day in Italy - warm sun, the best hot chocolate, beautiful scenery.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He know the mountains well, and could tell interesting stories. I felt a little RUSHED at times:once we had made it up the mountains, I would have liked to take time walking down in the beautiful scenery, enjoy the moment more - not going as fast as possible.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It does require you to be fit - I think it is more strenuous than the categorization suggests. You need to be able to climb (not just walk) for 2-3 hours, then lunch, then walking down, which may be hard on your knees. Poles recommended!!! for late September you might need rain gear, but it is nice and quiet in the mountain, so I highly recommend going at that time.

The best holiday ever!

This was the best holiday of my life so far and that says a lot as I am a frequent traveller who visited approximately 20 European countries, many beautiful places and had several fantastic holiday experiences. But this holiday trumped all of that. For those who are not sure if this is the trip for you, trust me it is worth every penny.

I am absolutely satisfied with how Exodus dealt with all of my questions and how they organised this trip. It was all very simple. I arrived to Geneva early Saturday afternoon and met with everyone at the airport included our tour guide. The journey to Chamonix took one hour. Chamonix town is like no others. The town it self is very beautiful and is surrounded by even more beautiful mountains. The views were absolutely unbelievable. We were accommodated in a Chalet which was very beautiful. In the Chalet we met with the rest of the group, and I have to say I couldn’t ask for a better group. Everyone (including our guide – Jenny Smith and the two hosts – Rich and Sarah) was nice and friendly and made this experience even better. The weather was very good, except for one day when it was raining, so we had all the fantastic views. Every day was absolutely fantastic, so get in shape so you don’t miss a thing. No words can describe just how beautiful the views were. The trails them self were in good conditions and I felt very safe on them. Yes there were some difficult sections, but our guide has always helped us out. The best thing about the trip is that when you think nothing can out do your day/moment/view there is something even better, and better and better… You will truly see the best parts of the Alps, experience a new culture, taste things you never ate before. You really want to have a hot chocolate in Italy. The hosts Rich and Sarah were wonderful and I am thankful that they were out hosts as they were friendly and funny and always lifted the atmosphere. Not to mention the fantastic food, truly it was world class, and I miss it already.

Most Inspirational Moment

There is so much to chose from as there were many breathtaking moments. Chamonix is probably the most beautiful town I ever visited. The mountains are very beautiful, and there are many memorable places. I enjoyed every second of walking, I loved every view, I loved everything. Even the only day with bad weather (rain and poor visibility) had it own magic. You would think that it would ruin your day, and yes it did a bit but I still loved it. But I think my favourite was the walk from La Flegere to Le Brevent. The views were magnificent, the trail challenging yet very unique and enjoyable. This is the day when you want to have a nice weather and good visibility the most.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Jenny Smith was fantastic. She was very helpful, informative and had a great knowledge of the area. She is a very nice person who I thought always gave her best and sometimes even went above and beyond in the most positive way. On every evening she informed us about our next tour and always gave us several options on how to do the route depending how good/tired we felt. She is a great leaded who always gave us her hand and helped us to go through all the difficult sections.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Read the trip notes and take all the gear that is says you need and always take waterproof clothes with you as the weather in the mountains is unpredictable and changes very quickly. You don't want to catch bad weather and not have the right gear, because the things can go really bad for you. Also make sure you have the right boots for the trip, I recommend ones with high and strong heels that will support your ankles.

Highlights of Mount Blanc/TWN Aug27/Sept3

Great Group, fantastic guide/leader, brilliant walking routes, lovely accommodation in a stunning location, marvellous catering by Sarah and Richard and great driving to the trail heads every morning by the same catering team.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walk from Merlet to Aiguillettte des Houches via the Refuge de Bel Lachat. Walk in theVal de Ferret via the refuge W.Bonatti.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jeffry Oonk was absolutely excellent with vast outdoor experience and extensive botanical knowledge.

Mt. Blanc Highlights - an excellent trip

The Mt. Blanc Highlights trip is one of the best I´ve done in a long time. The balance of hiking, leisure time, eating the good food after hiking and good rest was just perfect!

Most Inspirational Moment

Probably getting to know what Exodus is about. A company that is no nonsense, provides what it promises and is fully aware of the importance of respecting nature and the local community where it operates.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was very professional in every sense. He really took into consideration the fysical condition of each of the group members without us actually noticing. He was informative but never went over the limit as sometimes happens with guides that need to show off. I would without doubt choose him again if I had the chance.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go with EXODUS! I´m telling everybody about the company!

TMB Highlights

Excellent trip with stunning scenery on every day and outstanding cooking.

Most Inspirational Moment

Looking back along the Val de Feret towards Mont Blanc and the Grande Jorasse sipping delicious hot chocolate at the Bonatti refuge.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mark was a skilled and very personable professional guide.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The 5 walks are correctly graded but you need to be reasonably fit, as there is a lot of ascent and descent in hot weather..
