Perfect alpine scenery...

If you enjoy solid alpine hiking but prefer a base camp this is the alpine trip you want.

Most Inspirational Moment

The 360-degree views from Aiguillette des Houches were incredible !

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nick did a great job with a mixed group, adapting and adjusting the pace to ensure we all enjoyed the walks.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip is probably harder than you think - lots of climbing and some tough descents. 'Good health and moderate fitness' ...? - I would say 'excellent fitness/endurance' is required.

Mont Blanc highlights

In my opinion this was a fantastic trip! Our accommodation at the Chalet was so cozy and well looked after, our food was great and it was so nice to sit and share with our travel friends! Great moderate paced walking with beautiful views. I thought the first day was great but the views just kept eating better!

Most Inspirational Moment

Swimming in lac Blanc after a long walk up the hill was so refreshing and exhilarating, really made me feel adventurous and happy

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very experienced and was able to use his knowledge to help the group get the most out of our holiday

Advice for Potential Travellers

Using camel back water carriers-would if been better than bottles Light weight water proof jacket, and always take some small gloves Also 'compeed' blister band aids are the best for hiking!

Mont Blanc Highlights Aug 2015

A truly spectacular trip! The walks provide excellent views throughout. The varied nature of the trip allows you to see the snow capped peaks of Mont Blanc in every way through balcony walks and reaching the top of cols. We trekked through forested trails, bridges crossing glacial rivers and up to turquoise mountain lakes.

Most Inspirational Moment

We had 1 - 2 days of clouds on the trails. Upon reaching the refuge, the cloud suddenly cleared revealing panoramic reviews of Mont Blanc.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mark was an excellent group leader. He was extremely experienced and he described a specific walking pace in the Alps as 'the alpine shuffle' - fast enough to ensure a good days walk but slow enough to enjoy yourself along the way. A exceptional leader for this trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Chamonix is a great town and the chalet is just 10 minutes away. On the free day, go early to avoid the queues for the Aiguille Du Midi.

Mont Blanc Highlights - August 15th 2015

Excellent experience, with good hospitality at the chalet and well paced walking. The mist and rain for the first 4 days didn’t spoil the overall enjoyment!

Most Inspirational Moment

On day 5 being able to see all the mountains that we had walked on days 1 - 3 in the mist! A full 360 degree view of the area showing France, Switzerland and Italy. Day 6 swimming in the near glacier Lac Blanc.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Frank was a great leader, pacing the group to accommodate all of our abilities, and making adjustments where necessary to change transport if we were late due to enjoying ourselves too much!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Enjoy!

Mont Blanc Highlights July 2015

An amazingly well organized week in stunning surroundings of Chamonix, definitely worth every penny. Enjoyed the chalet, the company, the hikes and the catering + free time in the alpine village – recommendable to all fit enough for the ascents and descents 😉

Most Inspirational Moment

Being up in the mountains, after the struggle of getting up there during the mornings! Lots of steep slopes, enjoyed it!

Thoughts on Group Leader

A very well prepared and competent person with the ability of creating a pleasant holiday for all age participants; Mr. Hutchinson was certainly up to the task of bringing the group of very different hikers to the most astounding scenery available around Mont Blanc - regarding the fact that the days were long and also demanding physically. He encouraged and helped us also when struggling with blisters and all sorts of little nuisances, I was surprised of his dedication and continuous presence during the whole week.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get ready for serious hiking - good shoes and socks, enough training before your trip, and you'll enjoy and get the best out of it!

Exhilarating

If you want a holiday with 360° spectacular views and muscle-building, heart-pounding ascents then this trip will fulfil your requirement.

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing over boulders to eat lunch beside a fast-moving, glacial stream; foraging for wild raspberries for dessert; friendly encounters with Italian sheep and having the privilege of petting an inquisitive lamb; a butterfly resting on my shoulder for an interminable amount of time; sitting in 'grasshopper meadows' and hearing the incessant chattering from the hillsides.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rupert was an outstanding leader. He had great knowledge of the area and put each walk into context in relation to where we had walked previously or to our accommodation. He was attuned to the needs of individuals in the group, giving waypoints to stop at to those who wanted to move ahead faster and supporting those who moved at a slower pace. He shared his botanical knowledge with us, offering alpine leaves for us to sample, collecting herbs with which to make a 'tisane', or pointing out dangerous plants used as early anaesthetics.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The paths are a mixture of paved ski-tracks, woodland trails and rocky paths with short sections of cables, chains and vertical ladders. The ascents are steady and sustained from the word go, steep at times, with few level sections until you have gained height. With this in mind, I would suggest you get some regular hill-walking in before you travel to better prepare yourself. If you plan to wash a few items of laundry, pack a washing line and pegs and, if you are lucky enough to get a room with a balcony, you can hang it outside.

Mont Blanc Highlights: July 2015

This was an excellent holiday; I wholeheartedly recommend this trip. I went with my grown-up daughter and we both thoroughly enjoyed the walks which, thankfully, were blessed with excellent weather. Had we organized the trip ourselves (which I thought about doing), I doubt we would have found such interesting and varied walks. A very good itinerary that has to remain flexible owing to the vagaries of mountain weather. The accommodation at Chalet Mont Blanc was very comfortable, with excellent homely food cooked by our equally excellent hosts Collin and Jane. They made the group feel very welcome.

Most Inspirational Moment

The whole trip was well-worthwhile and enjoyable. I doubt there was one inspirational moment. When on the Italian side of the Alps in the beautiful Ferret valley a flock of Italian sheep ran towards us - we expected them to go around us and keep well away. Not so. They ran up to us wanting to be petted and even licked our boots! Are Italian sheep always so friendly?

Thoughts on Group Leader

The tour leader (Rupert) was excellent; very attentive to the needs of the group and each individual, very knowledgeable about the area and relaxed in his approach to leading the group. I have been with several Exodus (and Explore trips) and Rupert is by far the best leader I have so far been with. Exodus are lucky to have him as a leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bear in mind that the weather is a major factor. Our leader Rupert adapted the itinerary according to the weather forecast, which of course he was wise to do. We only had one day of bad weather though, which happened to be our free day. Take clothing for hot/dry through to wet/chilly conditions. Anything can happen in the Alps, even in summer. It was snowing high up on the Aiguille de Midi.

Alpine Sojourn - splendor and majesty

An excellent trip taking us all around Mont Blanc whilst having the comfort and convenience of staying in one comfortable clean Ski chalet with attentive and friendly hosts serving top notch plentiful food.
The walk were challenging but not killers; though you will need to be fairly fit. The leader was exactly what one would want: informative, knowledgeable (especially on flora and fauna), attentive and supportive, taking health and safety appropriately seriously. A really nice guy and an excellent guy.
The sun shone, the group gelled together very well and the Mountains were majestic and awesome (in all of its magnificent breathtaking scintillating true meaning).
Want to feel really alive? this is the trip folks.

Most Inspirational Moment

Standing inside the Glacier on our "day off," At last those long forgotten Geography lessons clicked into place. A bit late for my O levels though methinks. Stupendous

Thoughts on Group Leader

As above he was really brilliant, couldn't fault him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You are walking up to 900m uphill almost every day. This like a top Lakeland fell from the Lakeside in five days out of six. Make sure you are fit enough to enjoy the breathtaking (no pun intended) panoramic Vistas that will enchant you.

Beyond Expectations

Every person at the end of this trip left saying “I wasn’t expecting to have that good of a time.” People said things like “I’ve been on a lot of holidays, and this was the best one yet.” This trip was so incredible, from the actual hiking itself to the views to the hospitality of the hosts of the chalet to the organization of it all to the expertise of the guide.. I could go on. I can’t speak highly enough about it. I wanted to extend the trip another week. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended.

Most Inspirational Moment

My friend and I took the liberty of running any part of the trails that we could (with our guide's permission/advice). After sprinting a section of a trail with an overly qualified expert of the mountains (our guide's husband), with his go-ahead we decided to continue running down the rest of the mountain instead of waiting for the rest of the group and taking the gondola down. It was a steep path down, but we ran it all the way and managed to beat the group back, even though they took the lift. It was one of the greatest feelings.

Thoughts on Group Leader

loves what she does, knowledgeable, accepting of any pace/desired activity level of the group

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get some good shoes -- Mammuts or Salomons -- and a good backpack
