Last minute tours departing in September
Looking to extend that summer feeling? It may be drawing to a close, but there are plenty of destinations where you can enjoy an Indian summer on a last-minute September getaway in Europe.
Or why not head out on an incredible wildlife adventure in the USA when the fall foliage is out? September is also a great month to visit mystical Bhutan, when they’re celebrating one of the biggest religious festivals in their Lunar Calendar, for a culturally immersive experience you’ll never forget.
September in Sicily is ideal. After the heat of the summer, the island is less humid which makes it much better for sightseeing and exploring the island’s numerous archaeological sites. On our Treasures of Sicily trip, you’ll get to visit peaceful beaches and explore the less-crowded Baroque towns of Noto and Ragusa Ibla. You’ll enjoy a local wine tasting after a guided walk on Mount Etna. At this time, indigenous grape varieties like Grillo, Nero d’Avola and Catarratto are typically harvested in September, making it a wonderful time to visit vineyards and enjoy wine tastings.
Another great European destination to visit in September is Turkey. Travelling in off-peak season means there are fewer crowds, plus coastal areas enjoy milder, more pleasant temperatures. So why not join our Kayaking the Turquoise Coast trip, which takes you to the mysterious sunken city of Kekova and beautiful bays with Roman bath ruins in Göcek? If you’re looking to head further afield, September presents an opportune time to head to experience fall in one of America’s favourite national parks – Yellowstone. On our Yellowstone Walks & Wolves trip, you’ll enjoy ideal trekking conditions, spectacular fall foliage and perhaps spot some of the region’s most interesting wildlife including bison, bears and wolves.
Or why not try something different and join our Festivals of Bhutan departure, to celebrate the Thimphu Festival this September? Taking place during the eighth month of the Bhutanese lunar calendar, Thimphu commemorates the birth of the revered Buddhist saint, Guru Rinpoche. This day is celebrated with traditional Bhutanese music, colourful performances and masked dances by monks and laymen, making it a fascinating time to visit the happiest country on earth.
