Top 5 Highlights of Egypt Holidays

The Pyramids: Egypt’s pyramids are majestic structures that have fascinated visitors for centuries. Built as tombs for the pharaohs, these ancient wonders showcase the incredible engineering of the Egyptians. The largest of the pyramids, the Great Pyramid of Giza, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. As you step back in time, you’ll be in awe of these magnificent structures and the history that surrounds them.

Abu Simbel: This inspiring ancient monument was built during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC and houses two huge rock temples that are carved into the side of the mountain. The staggering size of the statues and the intricate designs make Abu Simbel an architectural wonder you won’t want to miss on Egypt holidays. Remarkably, the temples were relocated in the 1960s to prevent submersion due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam.

Luxor and Karnak Temples: Located in the ancient city of Thebes, Luxor and Karnak temples are fascinating historical sites. Luxor Temple, dedicated to the god Amun-Ra, is a testament to the architectural brilliance with its obelisks, colossal statues and intricate hieroglyphics. Karnak Temple is a vast complex on the east bank of the Nile containing numerous temples, chapels and hypostyle halls, boasting the famous Hypostyle Hall, which is filled with colossal pillars. Both temples provide an insight into the rich history and spiritual beliefs of this extraordinary civilisation.

The Valley of the Kings: The Valley of the Kings, located on the west bank of the Nile River in Egypt, is one of the country’s most famous archaeological sites. This ancient burial ground served as the final resting place for pharaohs and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom period. As you explore its magnificent tombs, intricate wall paintings and hieroglyphs you’ll learn about the intriguing world of the pharaohs and their quest for eternal life.

The Red Sea: This large expanse of saltwater lies between Africa and Asia and spans approximately 1,900km in length. Its name aptly describes its reddish hue, and its waters are home to rich biodiversity. The Red Sea serves as an important shipping route and boats a diverse array of marine life, including vibrant coral reefs, colourful fish, turtles and dolphins. On our Egypt holidays you can explore the kaleidoscopic waters on snorkelling trips and a thrilling submersible adventure.

This was our thirteenth Exodus trip and this Egyptian odyssey certainly didn’t fall short of the high standards that keep bringing us back to Exodus as a travel company. Alexandria to Aswan is jam packed with breathtaking sights, extraordinary monuments and mind-boggling history, as well as moments of serenity and beauty, especially when drifting along the Nile either on the cruise ship or on a Felucca. My one reservation is that because so much is packed into what is effectively just twelve days it does feel a little rushed at times. It would have been good to spend perhaps an extra night in Alexandria and also Aswan. For me the the best Exodus trips do have a bit of time to breathe. Yes, it would make it a bit more expensive but this really ought to be a full two weeks. However, this shouldn’t put anyone off. It’s full of thrilling awe inspiring moments but you will need a good deal of energy to enjoy it all. Although thankfully there’s nowhere near as much driving as in some Exodus trips.

Martin Jacobs Egypt: Alexandria to Aswan

I highly recommend booking this trip if you want a fascinating exploration through ancient and modern Egypt. We got to see so many places that felt straight out of a National Geographic documentary! We had a small group of seven plus our exceptional tour guide named Rania who helped make this truly the trip of a lifetime. I have been a lot of cool places in the world but I believe this may be this coolest thing I have ever done. 10/10
