Where to Travel in August

Where to Travel in August

With the Masai Mara migration season in full swing, it’s arguably one of the best places to travel to in August, but with summer festivals in Croatia and great game viewing opportunities on boat safaris in Brazil, you have plenty of choice on where to go this month.

NAMIBIA

It’s prime time for game viewing

August is the peak season for spotting elephants, giraffes and lions in Namibia, as little rainfall means they congregate around waterholes which makes them much easier to spot. Even though it’s warmer, you’ll need to pack layers for cooler nights, as you’ll be sleeping under canvas on our Discover Namibia – Camping trip. If the thrill of biking across Namibia appeals, August is a great month to Cycle Namibia and take in its otherworldly landscapes as temperatures usually as it sits comfortably around the mid-twenties. View all Namibia trips here

CROATIA

Enjoy the summer festivals

While it may be tempting to visit European hotspots once the crowds have dissipated, the joy of exploring places like Croatia in August means you can witness the Summer Festival in Dubrovnik and enjoy the dry and hot weather. It’s also a perfect time to get out on the water, by taking a boat to Mljet National Park for a picnic or visiting Korčula island to explore a maze of lanes in the medieval walled town. Visit Croatia in August on our Dubrovnik & the Dalmatian Coast trip or Cycle Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast. View all Croatia trips here

ESTONIA

Soak up the longer evenings

After July, August is the second warmest month of the year, with pleasant daily temperatures hovering in the early twenties. The daylight hours are also longer this time of year too, with locals affectionately calling their evenings, “white nights” as the North Pole tips towards the sun. On our Discover the Baltics trip, you’ll get to discover the architectural wonders of Talin and the forest trails across Lahemaa National Park. Or journey through Otepaa, “Estonia’s Switzerland” on our Cycle the Baltics adventure. View all Estonia trips here

BRAZIL

Best for wildlife in the Pantanal

Temperatures in the Pantanal are heating up in August, sitting in the late twenties to early thirties, and the dry season is well underway. It’s the best place to travel in August for wildlife spotting in the wetlands, where you may spot capybaras, giant otters, and the elusive jaguars on our Land of the Jaguar trip, travelling deep into the region to explore the river and its tributaries on boat safaris. KENYA

Watch the Great Migration at its peak

Commonly known as “the greatest show on Earth”, one of the best places to see the Great Migration is the Masai Mara in Kenya. During August, an estimated 1.2 million wildebeest and 300,000 zebra will cross age-old routes making the 1,000km journey from Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Masai Mara in Kenya and back again. So why not see this amazing spectacle for yourself on our Classic Kenya 4WD Safari or Kenya & Tanzania Adventure? View all Kenya trips here
