AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

Lots to see in a beautiful setting with a friendly hotel to return to each night.

Most Inspirational Moment

The 'Walk of the Gods' in brilliant sunshine. The sea was unbelievably blue and the spring wildflowers brightened the hillsides.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was like a knowledgeable friend, always willing to do whatever was needed to make the holiday special.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Spring is lovely for the flowers, but make sure you bring warm clothing for the evenings.

DUBROVNIK & THE DALMATIAN COAST

It was city tours that made it for me. Firstly Split. Dubrovnik is a must visit city as it is so pretty only; wish had more time there. In contrast optional trip to Bosnia showed a much more deprived country profoundly showing the effect of recent conflict.

Also relaxation was aided by afternoon flights both ways – definitely worth exploring all flights available to achieve this even if don’t take offered group flight as airport transfers are inexpensive due to close proximity to airports.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking City walls in Dubrovnik that fully circle old town allowing it to be viewed from many angles . Walking part of Ston Wall which is in style of China wall followed by oysters.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Group leader was native so able to effectively share culture of country including top tips of places to eat.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As mentioned check for best flight times. In May be prepared for some cool weather although we were lucky to have warm weather.

MT TOUBKAL CLIMB

Good standards of guides, equipment and food. Well organised and reliable.

Most Inspirational Moment

Having the chance to climb two over 4km high mountains

Thoughts on Group Leader

Brilliant

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get on the trip and enjoy yourself

CYCLING IN SARDINIA

An exhilarating trip zipping along coastal roads gazing at plunging cliffs dipping into turquoise waters and pretty bays .Glimpses of ancient Phoenician cities, Spanish Towers and ancient mines enhance the views . Plenty of time to relax on a beach, enjoy the ferry and savour the delicious food and wine all in good company after a hard days cycle.

Most Inspirational Moment

The coastal scenery and a wow moment at every bend.Flamingoes flying . Festival procession we were lucky to witness that happens once a year in a small village.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent--attentive and fun. He worked well with Roberto who drove the van and acted as back up.Michelae was aware of the diffferent needs of the group and organised us well.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Relax and enjoy. The hills are quite challenging but in small bite size chunks.Remember low gear when cycling through a ford !!I went in May which is a good time to avoid the crowds and hot weather but enough to enjoy the beach.

WALKING IN TUSCANY

Hikes through stunning scenery, a tapestry of spring flowers and the best icecream in the world – a winning combination.

Most Inspirational Moment

Every day was an inspiration.  Starting our first walk in pouring rain was a challenge but it brought the group together.  Reaching the summit of the highest peak in Tuscany with everyone who had started the walk (including Elvis, but that is another story) gave a great sense of achievement.  Coming across a moutainside covered with crocuses and another white with narcissus flowers was a reward for all the effort.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sara is everything you would want in a leader.  She is highly experienced, has enormous local knowledge and makes you feel entirely safe with her overwhelming competence.  Alongside all that professionalism, she is also great fun.  The birthday celebrations she put on for one of our group are a fine example of how she goes that step further to ensure everyone has a good time.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I had not imagined the hills of Tuscany would be so high - don't be fooled by images of the south of the region - and some of them can be  a little scary.  Despite everything you might imagine it can and does rain in May (and possibly other months) and it can be very cold when you are up the mountain so do take your waterproofs and gloves.  On the other hand, pack your swimming things as it can also be lovely and warm in the valley when you get back from your walk.

UZBEKISTAN UNCOVERED

A very well structured and organized tour through a country still seemingly struggling to modernize and improve the standard of living for it’s citizens. Although the people are not overtly religious, Uzbekistan has some of the most beautiful mosques and madrassas I’ve seen throughout my travels through the muslim world. The country’s infrastructure needs improvement and it’s currency (Som) desperately needs notes in much larger denominations for ease of USD/Euro/GBP exchange. The country is immaculately clean and I felt safe at all times. Cuisines other than Uzbek and Russian are difficult to locate outside the larger cities, so this is not really a tour for the discerning pallette. The Uzbek people are lovely and eager to make friends with foreigners. Handicrafts (Embroidery, wood carvings, ceramics, etc.)of very high quality abound for haggling, (Sorry Dr. R. ur haggling skills needed UN intervention!!!)

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the beautiful, well maintained, and  clean (unlitered) cities and environs. The people seem to take a genuine sense of pride and responsibility for their environment (homeland).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader (Johnnybek) was very knowlegible. He was organized, well-mannered, and managed all 16 personalities of our group without hardly any difficulties.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Discuss the "black market" currency exchange  process with your tour leader before exchanging large amounts of USD. Euro, etc  at the hotel or bank rates!!!!   There are great "price fixed" handicraft shops just outside the registan ensemble in Samarkand ( In diretion of the bazaar) for those travelers who would rather not haggle for souveniers!!!!  Wifi  was available in most of the hotels.

CYCLING IN SARDINIA

A brilliant trip lead by brilliant guides! This is my first Exodus trip and I was thoroughly impressed with the organisation, the standard of accommodation and the guides.

Most Inspirational Moment

Lots! Reaching the top of a hill climb, seeing crystal clear sea, quatrz sand beaches, drinking Ichnusa while watching the sunset.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michele and Roberto were amazing, a great double act. Michele was always smiling, cracking jokes and was really enthuisiastic about the plans for the next days adventure. He looked out for everybody in the group whether they were the fastest or the slowest in the group. And Roberto (the tallest Sardinian in the world) was great too, sorting out some great picnics on the beach for us and really looking after everybody.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for it!!

MACHU PICCHU & THE AMAZON RAINFOREST

An incredible experience that will stay with me forever. Much more than just a holiday, Exodus found somethgin to make each day better than the previous one.

Most Inspirational Moment

Meeting and talking with the local Amazon guide Raphael who had real life experience of living in the Amazon.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Juan had an extensive knowledge of the country, it's history and culture. He had a tendancy to be over assertive but relaxed after a week and started to allow us to enjoy the break.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Check that Ant-Malarials are actually necessary. I was advised by Exodus to take them but the local staff in the Amaxon advised against it as Peru is a Malaria free region and Malarone can  affect altitidue sickness.

DUBROVNIK & THE DALMATIAN COAST

An interesting and unhurried trip, wonderful scenary and lovely medieval towns with narrow cobbled streets

Most Inspirational Moment

The lovely coastal scenary with clear turquoise and blue sea, and Dubrovnik is a real gem, with its wonderful medieval buildings and narrow alleyways

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very organised and helpful, ensuring everybody was ok and enjoying their holiday.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It is very easy to withdraw cash from ATM''s as you go, so no need to take lots of cash with you.  The trip to Mostar is well worth it, it's a picturesque small town to wander around, and their is an exhibition with interesting although very sobering pictures from the war. It is worth considering adding on another day in Dubrovnik as their is a lot to see and do.  The cost of goods, drinks  and meals is not that much different from the uk when planning your budget. Most local people are very friendly and helpful, and many speak some English or will attempt to understand you !  You can get taxis from the airport easily and cheaply, and it feels relatively safe walking around at night.

INCA TRAIL, TITICACA & NAZCA

The best trip ever!  Magnificent trek, despite heavy rain on day 2 … the travails just added to the sense of achievement on reaching the Sun Gate.  Food on trek unbelievably good – better than we eat at home – and loads of it.  Superb guides at all stages, and the trail porters were magnificent – camp set up for us before we arrived, tea and hot water for washing delivered to our tents – like having a personal butler!  The encouragement of the guides was truly humbling, and if any of us flagged they were there to give support. We also saw a lot of Peru, and had lots of new experiences, including dune buggies at Ica and sand-boarding for the more adventurous. This is a fun-packed trip of a lifetime – we loved every minute of it …

Most Inspirational Moment

talking to Fabrizzio, Hernan and Lizbett, our wonderful trail guides, about their pride in their Inca heritage ...wonderful first evening meal on trek - asparagus soup, stuffed trout fillets, with rice and al dente mixed vegetables, followed by bananas flambeed in brandy with hot chocolate sauce - worth going for the food alone!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fabrizzio was experienced, knowledgeable, hard-working, encouraging - all you could expect from a guide and so much more!  I had a chest infection and initially doubted my ability to complete the trek but he was hugely supportive and encouraging, and inspired me with the confidence to do it comfortably.  He was also very good at ensuring group cohesion while giving everyone the chance to do their own thing - never once did we feel regimented to do anything.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't hesitate to book ... it's a great trek, and lots more besides. Take swimming gear for Aguas Calientes and the hotel in Nazca ...
