FINNISH WILDERNESS WEEK

A fabulous holiday in a beautiful winter wonderland! Lots of fun activities. Scenary was stunning, photos just don’t do it justice.

Most Inspirational Moment

Dog sledging through the national park, an experience I will never forget.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Everybody was so helpful and friendly, especially Hanna.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you're thinking about this holiday, just do it! You will not be disappointed.

CLASSIC KENYA SAFARI

This holiday was excellent both in the accommodation choices, food provided, the safari itself and the particular mix of people we had within our group.  One thing could I think be easily overcome – we were all advised to get the visa on arrival and on the plane that it would be £20 I think it was but when we arrived, it was not only more expensive but it took a long time to get, thus making people in our group wait a long time for some of us.  The currency being ok to get on arrival although cheaper, incurred delays also making of us feel rather bad right at the start of the trip!More positives outweigh the negatives though!

Most Inspirational Moment

Wanting to see a leopard and our guide trying hard to make sure we did.  So not only did we find one camouflaged within the bushes - hard to see but having just made a 'kill' spreadeagled it across leaf-free branches of a tree as if if she had pinned it up there to skin it.  Does not sound much but it was one of my highlights.Seeing my first close up of  - giraffe, a lioness and her cubs, two cheetahs; baby elephants, hippos doing synchronised swimming; a stubborn buffalo occupying our picnic spot; a wildebeast silhouetted against the sunset  sky;....two big Rhinos walking in front of the van and then their back view going off across the land - 'priceless' ; the scurrying of the funny warthogs

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was very good on the whole and very friendly - we think he had a couple of 'down' days but we managed to lift his spirits!!Sometimes I felt though that he did not know how Exodus inform us in advance about the trip - we asked about the migration and he did not seem to understand that it could happen in October whereas it was in the trip notes (?). I I was pretty sure of when we asked him.?

Advice for Potential Travellers

If not very clued up - try to get an idea from someone (previous traveller to that area) who is a good barterer to advise you what is reasonable and what is too much!?   I felt a bit inadequate and nearly got very stung!  I did not know what I needed to specifically  ask or check about this essential learning curve when I had my Exodus contact to ask prior to the trip.

SPICE TRAILS OF KERALA

A different way to spend christmas for me,a great mix, walking and camping the first week then moving around the backwaters in more comfort the second.a very varied trip giving a perspective on india you wont get just by visiting the big centres of population.

Most Inspirational Moment

sharing the generousity of people who had very little, we had 3 christmas cakes on christmas eve...one from a priest after we stopped by his small one room church, one shared with the small number of parishoners whose meeting place was beside our campsite and one baked by our cook and shared around the campfire.i will remember for a long time, the view from my tent at sunrise, drinking my bed tea and looking at the spectacular scenery which had been shrouded in a cloak of mist the previous evening.

Thoughts on Group Leader

ashok was a calm ,friendly and very competent leader. he gave us a great insight into the lives of indian people and guided us through many problems of travelling in a different environment. our trip had to be changed in part due to trouble at the border with tamil nadu but he rose to the occassion and managed the situation without us being aware of any issues.

Advice for Potential Travellers

be prepared to accept different standards of urban structures , most towns were a bit of a mess, get over this quickly and look to the people and countryside . i didnt eat any meat or fish and was one of the few who didnt get a tummy upset, maybe related. great range of veggie meals, very cheap.weather in december was good, only one wet day in 2 weeks and boy, did it rain!

WALKING IN TUSCANY

A wonderful week in beautiful surroundings, lovely place to stay and good company

Most Inspirational Moment

Although it was a walking holiday, the day(s) I spent in Lucca really stand out, as such a lovely town within complete city walls around which you can cycle.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sarah could not be bettered. Knowledgeable, fun, encouraging, adventurous.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Spend time by the lovely pool in the grounds of the farmhouse.

WALKING IN NORTH CYPRUS

A beautiful place worth exploring & best on foot. The local people were extremely friendly and makes you feel at home and very welcome. Another plus point is that they charge in Turkish Lira which means you can really stretch your dollar!

Most Inspirational Moment

The selected hotel ; Onar Village Resort was wonderful. Especially all the serving crew. Customer service was 5-star and they do their daily task with so much personal pride & always with a smile! Service requests/response were very quick, be it for extra towels, fresh eggs/coffee...Exodus could not have choosen a better hotel.

Thoughts on Group Leader

She tried her best considering she was not feeling well. We did not get enough time to simply chill & soak in the atmosphere as her walking pace was quite fast.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Fly into Ercan (ECN) from Istanbul (IST) instead of via Larnaca (LCA). More convenient and the flight on TK is very pleasant. Simply pre-book a taxi from Ercan Taxi Service online & someone will meet you directly upon arrival. Safe & hassle-free.

KILIMANJARO CLIMB - RONGAI ROUTE

My husband and I decided to climb Mt Kilimanjaro for our honeymoon. I didn’t have much climbing experience other that doing Snowdon a couple of times so I was a bit nervous! But once we met our group (12 of us total) and our guides I felt a lot more relaxed. The climb was tough especially on summit night. Nothing can prepare you for that! However we trooped on and all somehow made it to Uhuru!Coming down back to Kibo huts was hard too, but after that is was fine and the thought of a shower and a good stiff drink powered me along!

Most Inspirational Moment

Wow, the whole trip was inspirational. I think trudging through the night and arriving at Gilmans Point at sunrise is definitely one of the best feelings ever. Once i reached to Gilmans I fell into a heap in the corner and sobbed my little heart out! Reaching Uhuru with my new husband by my side was amazing, it's quite hard to take everything in at that point, but knowing you've reached the roof of Africa just blows you away.I have to also point out how inspirational the porters were too. Incredibly strong and fit as they overtake you carrying bags and tents and stoves! Amazing guys!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was JT, he was very helpful, caring, supportive and good fun as was all the other assistant guides especially Francis. Top guys who managed to get our whole group to Uhuru.

Advice for Potential Travellers

My advice would be don't worry! I spent sleepless nights thinking about climbing Kilimanjaro but i needn't have. When you're there enjoy the views, the people and try not to think too much about summit night. You might make it you might not, the fact that you've even attempted it is worth so much and it's an experience you'll never forget.

DISCOVER SRI LANKA

An interesting and varied trip that covered many different parts of Sri Lanka.

Most Inspirational Moment

It was amazing to see the elephants bathing in the river at Pinnewala.  We had a brilliant view from the terrace of the restaurant where we had lunch and were able to go down to the water to get a closer view... a little too close in my case when a tiny baby elephant decided to head-butt me.  It's certainly an experience I will never forget!

Thoughts on Group Leader

I couldn't have had a better group leader.  He made sure we had all the information we required for each day and answered any questions we had both about the country and the activities we were doing.  He even managed to get us lunch when there were a cyclone in the area we were staying and the hotel had lost all power and part of their restaurant's roof.  He always made us feel safe and at ease during the whole trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

All the activities I did, both those as part of the trip and the optional ones, were really good so I would definitely recommend making the most of every opportunity when you're out there.

THE ZAMBEZI VALLEY

A great way to see Zambia and interact with the river life.  Great exercise without being overly challenging.

Most Inspirational Moment

Watching wild elephants on shore from the canoe - amazing!  You can get much closer to the elephants in the canoe than you ever could safely on foot, and I got dozens of amazing photos.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very professional, good humoured and patient.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Come prepared to leave some of your luggage behind.  You don't need a lot of things in canoe (you are carrying everything with you) and you can pick it up at the end of the trip.  If I had of known this in advance, I would have arrived prepared with my luggage separated as there way no time to do this on arrival.  Also it gets a lot colder than you may think at night and the sleeping bags were quite thin, bring your own if you feel the cold.

ANDES TO AMAZON

Quite honestly, the trip was all I was hoping for  – and more.  Great scenery, friendly people, glimpses of amazing wildlife, weird and wonderful plants, interesting towns, opportunities to do things I’d always wanted to do (and some I’d never thought about doing before).  This trip expanded my horizons.

Most Inspirational Moment

I have to pick two - one easy, one tough. Easy: watching birds and monkeys as I drifted down a river in the Amazon Basin. Tough: looking out from behind an amazing waterfall after forcing myself to scramble, crawl and even climb through a low, narrow wet tunnel that most of our group  declined!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fabian was a real character, roguish, passionate and knowledgeable about his country (and armed with books to fil in the gaps in his knowledge of plants and wildlife), friendly, laidback, caring and reliable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for all weathers and large meals, be flexible and don't go with pre-conceived ideas. And don't ignore your group leader when he tells you that at high latitudes the sun can burn you even through heavy cloud on a cold day

EVEREST BASE CAMP

My trip to Everest Base Camp was fantastic. Exodus group leader, Valerie Parkinson and team of Guides were extremely organised and helpful. The scenery was fabulous and it was amazing to spend 2 nights camping at Base Camp alongside an expedition team.

Most Inspirational Moment

It was fantastic to camp at Base Camp and explore the area. It was great to see climbers on the icefall and to talk with climbers, climbing sherpas and the doctors in the Everest ER tent.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Valerie Parkinson was a fantastic leader. Her passion for the Himalayas was contagious. She was extremely organised and helpful and was a mine of information.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for it! Try to camp at Base Camp.
