COLOURS OF RAJASTHAN, INDIA

I am afraid I wouldn’t recommend it – it really felt like a package tour rather than a journey. Most daylight hours on the vast majority of days are spent on the bus, and the scenery is flat and pretty uninteresting so doesn’t mitigate the length of the journeys. I was surprised how short the stops were at the sights – for example 20 minutes to walk around at the Taj Mahal.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Taj Mahal exceeded my expectations (which were high) though the pleasure was marred by only having 20 minutes to walk around, so constantly checking watches.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was really a nice chap and looked after us well. I could have done without some of the banter on the coach, but it was well intentioned, he clearly loves his country and wanted to share it with us. The driver was amazing - there is a lot of traffic on the roads and he must have been really tired at times, but he did a great job, and his assistant was also really kind.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Really think about how long you want to spend on a bus in a relatively short holiday, and be prepared for having a fair number of cold showers.

ANNAPURNA SANCTUARY

Very well organised and paced trek. Great guides. Some thought perhaps into evening entertainment. Disappointed that Exodus had withdrawn their allowance to provide some Christmas day celeberation and came from the guides pockets , given an increased supplement is levied at this time of year.Would like Exodus to justify reducing guides / porters wages by 20% when any cost cutting can be acheived in its brochures, the small amount this would have saved is a large amount to this personnel which is totally unfair on then. TUI you should be ashamed ! Pre ordering meals worked very well .

Most Inspirational Moment

Sunset views at Poon Hill and reaching Base Camp at Annapurna , views incredible. Friendleness of the locals.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Passang had a lovely sensitive personality , excellent sense of humour , always happy to help and very patient especially at meal times when clients forgot their orders.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you are well equipped for a variety of conditions in one day. Have plenty of snacks , go with the flow of the group ,

A WEEK IN JORDAN

An amazing sightseeing trip – lots of busy days and walking, there isn’t much free time.  Lots of hightlights for me – practically everything on the itinerary.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Treasury at Petra for the first time.  We did Petra by Night, which whilst quite pricey, is well worth doing for the magical experience.  It is also amazing to see it during daylight for the first time, as well as the high climb on the second day in Petra where you get such a good persepctive on the whole city form up high.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent - Kheled was very informative and helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take bath plugs - most of the hotels don't have them and sometimes the pressure in the showers isn't always great.  It is easy to change money over there Most hotels have UK plug sockets so you don't need to worry about adaptors.

KERALA & TROPICAL INDIA

The second week in Kerala was stunning – scenery, birdlife, food, backwater cycling, Varkala beach. Perfect.First week – not so good. Too much heavy traffic and pollution. I have asthma so it wasn’t a happy time as I struggled along 40KM of trucks, cars and motorbikes belching out goodness knows what. I would therefore recommend anyone with a similar condition to acquire a face mask.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved the houseboat. For the first time in many years I actually relaxed and watched the world go by. It helps to have some of the most genuinely lovely people we met on the trip on the same boat.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Vishna was excellent - however one of our party did have a serious accident and had to be hospitalised and flown home so Vish left us to take care of her and her partner. So we had to put up with Safi! I jest. He was brilliant - what an extraordinarily happy man! Quite infectious. Whenever I hear a bike bell ring I shall think of him....

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you have asthma please ensure you have what you need with you and get a breathable face mask. There are no panniers on the bike so, if you have a fancy pants camera like me, you could invest in a camera holder which attaches to the front of the bike. I had to use a rucksack which was hot and heavy. If you can, spend an extra couple of days at Varkala at the end - it really is a lovely beach with great seafood, generally hassle free shops and beer oddly wrapped in newspaper so the locals aren't offended.

DISCOVER SRI LANKA

Fantastic holiday – lots of variety, not too hectic but plenty to do.  Great food too.

Most Inspirational Moment

Whitewater rafting (on a very gentle river) watching the world go by and the locals bathing in the early evening.  The Sri Lankans were amazing friendly and hospitable.  I have never been to a country where so many locals waved spontaneously as we passed.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Roshan was outstanding.  He's the best tour leader I've ever travelled with.  It is no surprise that he won Exodus tour leader of the year.  He was incredibly insightful on Sri Lankan history and culture and gave us a perfect level of detail.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take lots of mosquito repellant.

DISCOVER SRI LANKA

Great trip in every way.  A good selection of activities and could not have seen more of Sri Lanka in such a short time.  The guide, Roshan, knew how to balance being there when he is needed and not being pushy.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved the cycling day and spending some time with the local family. The local games we played at a local banana plantations was also great insight into the local life.Good to see the work Exodus and Roshan had done for the tsunami victims.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just enjoy!

ANTARCTICA, FALKLANDS & SOUTH GEORGIA

It was a long way to travel – but it was well worth it, started with a few days in Ushuaia (Argentina) before the expedition cruise started. Ushuaia is a small town with many overpriced so called duty free shops, and outside the town is the National Park – which to be honest was very ordinary. Now to the actual trip itself – the Falkland, South Georgia and Antarctica – it was brilliant, very well run by the expedtion staff and the journey on the Valivov was 'plain sailing'.On this trip we missed one zodiac cruise, but managed to carry out all the other activites.Managed to see all the expected wildlife for that time of year, and great views when land and ice in view.

Most Inspirational Moment

South Georgia had everything, the scenery, history and the wildlife.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lynn Woodward - is an expert on the areas visited, so was always able to pass on her substantial knowledge.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Great for wildlife photography.Spend as much time out on deck or on the bridge - you dont know what is going to swim or fly by !(Could not beleive that out of 95 holiday makers on board - there were only three of us 'looking').

KILIMANJARO CLIMB - LEMOSHO ROUTE

A great adventure, well organised by the African Walking Company. A must if you like a bit of walking and can put up with a frosted tent in the morning.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top!!Thank you for our guides for the great support and the signing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We did not have a Exodus group leader as the trip was ran by the AWC. I was actually a little disappointed by the service provided by the Exodus representatives. They were not forthcoming with information, missed a floor mat order and on departure day just left us at the airport. Whilst I am a frequent traveler it would have been a little re insuring that someone stayed with us at the airport at least until we all checked in.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be ready for cold nights and warm days and do not give up you can do it!

LAND OF THE TIGER

Great trip – good mixture of activities and rest times. Excellent local guide to navigate us through the maze of travel customs, accommodate our requests and manage our expectations. If you are thinking about going just get on and book it – and then just go with the flow!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Has to be our very own Christmas Day tiger at Kanha! He was well worth the long wait. After all our "almost-sitings" and lots of excited racing around the forests following alarm calls and distant growlings, he just appeared as if by magic and let us follow him along the road for a while. The Taj Mahal was stunning - and definitely worth a look from the peace of the botanical gardens on the other side of the river in the late afternoon sunshine.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Krishna didn't always understand our jokes but was a good guide and let us into his world, giving us personal insights as well as professionally handling the 6 hour delay for our first overnight train!A serious tiger-fan and an expert in his own right - often better than the official park guides at sensing where the tigers might be and always letting us know what was going on out on the game drives - I think he was as thrilled as the rest of us on Christmas Day!His mantra (which we had all adopted by the end of the trip) that " tigers are everywhere.... they are just very difficult to see" - says it all really!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Thermals in winter for the morning game drives, v cold indeed at 5.30am!!Jeeps are open topped so hats and scarves are a must. For winter dates ask for hot water bottles for your bed - at Kanha they delivered them to our beds while we were having dinner and they were much appreciated!Lovely art shop (related to local Art school) on the main road close to the hotel at Bandhavgarh  - got a gorgeous tiger painted on silk there. They will sell with frames or without.Keep your receipt for changing cash back at the airport in case you don't have chance to spend it on additional drives and tiger-shows.Take advantage of any local events along the way - we walked to a local crafts fair which was justing setting up - an interesting little extra trip.

THE AMALFI COAST

Wonderful week away in the Amalfi, the walking was varied and interesting with fantastic views. The group leader Christine was passionate about the area and really bought the trip to life. The hotel were great and they couldn’t do enough for us, really making the effort to make the trip special and make us feel at home.

Most Inspirational Moment

For me i loved the day in Pompeii which was so interesting, the guide was the best investment of the holiday and really bought it to life showing us all the key things and explaining things that you wouldn't even think to ask. Also the walk of the gods on the last day was wonderful with amazing views.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Christine was friendly, professional and passionate about her job and the area which really made the holiday. She made the whole holiday very easy and relaxing and was a lot of fun.
