MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES OF EVIA

Tiring but most enjoyable.

Most Inspirational Moment

No one particular moment.  The whole holiday was a joy from start to finish.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Roger is great.  A very thoughtful and helpful guide.  We could not ask for a better chap.

Advice for Potential Travellers

When Roger says "undulations" he means "hills", when he says "trainers" he means "walking boots".

PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI

Absolutely great trip!!  A wonderful safari and so much more – learning what it means to take photographs not just pictures.  Thanks to Paul.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paul was a great - sharing his passion for the Mara and photography!

A TASTE OF CUBA

It was a busy week, cramming in lots of different experiences!  However, it was an excellent way to see as much of the island as possible in a short time.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were plenty of great experiences, but my favourite was having dinner in a paladare in Trinidad one evening.  There was live music from a quartet, the food was excellent, the setting in a beautiful old house was just fantastic.  Truly memorable, it defined my trip to Cuba.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mariella was an excellent group leader.  Nothing was too much trouble and she did a great job in balancing everyone's needs and views.  She was always happy and really passionate about her country and her job.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go sooner, rather than later!  Change is slowly coming......Be prepared for slow service in some bars and restaurants, you just need to get into 'Cuba' time as soon as possible.  Relax with a cuba libre, or a mojito!

MONT BLANC HIGHLIGHTS

Loved the walking and came back feeling much fitter, and relaxed. Beautiful area- when the mist cleared to allow us to see it…

Most Inspirational Moment

The last day when the weather finally cleared and we saw the summit of Mont Blanc for our climb up Le Brevant. Topped off by seeing a golden eagle soaring over us as we approached the top of our walk.I also loved our walk in the Ferret Valley with stunning views and beautiful alpine flowers.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Oliver is a charming, polite, gentle, patient leader with fabulous local knowledge. His jokes have already been mentioned in previous reviews, so I won't dwell on them.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I found walking poles very useful! I wore my wet trousers and fleece and rain jacket everyday for the first 4 days, so make sure you have the right kit and that it is comfortable. Having said that- the rain did not spoil the walk or my enjoyment on any day.

CYCLING THE DALMATIAN COAST

A beautiful series of rides through idyllic countryside, pretty villages and dramatic coastlines.  The routes were varied: Croatian gravel, unmade roads, sealed minor roads and main roads – steep and gentle hills, some undulating territory, all manageable even to beginner riders.

Most Inspirational Moment

I'll never forget the exhilarating ride on the last day - through the scary tunnel, out to the brilliant sunshine, then downhill beside sheer cliffs, the sea and vineyards,  to a pebbly beach and fabulous swim.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ana was well organised, fun and enthusiastic.  Together with Boris she made a perfect holiday for us, topped off with a very stirring rendition of the Croatian national anthem.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You will love it!Bring wet weather gear. The optional ride to the national park is a perfect adventure.

Cyclo Panamerica

Great guides, great scenery, great places, great rum. All in all, a great trip. This was my first Exodus holiday but definitely won’t be my last. We were really well looked after from start to finish, the bikes were good quality and we saw and did loads. The two weeks flew by and I enjoyed the trip from start to finish.

Most Inspirational Moment

Lots of things - Arriving at San Juan, diving straight into the Pacific and watching the sun come down.Sipping beautiful Pina Coladas in the hot springs at la Fortuna. Conquering some of the "rolling" hills in hot, hot Central American sunshine.Cruising around on speedboats with "Captain Jack" in Bocos, seeing dolphins jump out of the water and snorkelling in the clear Caribbean. Drinking lots of rum and dancing to bachata/meringue/reggeaton in Bocos until the early hours of the morning. Flying downhill in Panama at 40mph in the pouring rain, wearing sunglasses and with suncream in my eyes. Paul doing a booze-run so we would have lots of rum and beer when it was Easter. The fruit - immeasurably better than anything you ever get in England, and probably the tastiest I've ever had. And lots, lots, lots more.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rob was great - very laid back, very accommodating but always managed to get us to where we needed to be without it ever feeling regimented. Paying bills for 17 people could be a nightmare (as we discovered in San Juan) but he had a great system in place so it was completely hassle-free. A very fit rider, but also always up for drinks and dancing in the evenings.  Paul (cyclist/mechanic/singer/dancer) and Ronny (driver) were great too. Paul fixed a broken chain in about 2 minutes and kept all the bikes ship shape. They were always up for few rums and a dance too. Could do with learning a bit of English though....

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip notes say moderate to challenging and they mean it. There are a lot of what Rob described as "rolling" terrain (just plain hills to me) as well as a few steeper climbs. It was very hot too but, if you are reasonably fit, I reckon you'll be fine. If you go out for a group meal on any evenings ask for separate bills at the start. If you go snorkelling in Bocos take note of Rob's advice about how easy it is to get sunburnt. I didn't.....Be prepared to eat more food than you have eaten in your life. Normally a big breakfast, a big lunch and a big dinner. With fruit stops inbetween. With the hills and the heat you need it though.

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

A great holiday with lots of variety from ruins and lesiurely walks to just wandering around the beautiful little places in and around Amalfi

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to pick one, the walk of the gods was truly amazing. Ravello, positano and Amalfi all beautiful in their own way. We were lucky enough to go to sorrento too which was lovely to. The ruins at herculaeum were spectacular and well preserved which enabled you to really get a feel for the place

Thoughts on Group Leader

Christine was great, each evening we had a meeting in the hotel and we were given an iternary of the following days events. She was very personable and made the holiday very special for us all in the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

do the trip, it's a lovely chilled trip but with a lot of variety in a very beautiful place

GORILLAS & MASAI MARA

All aspects of this trip surpassed my expectations.  From the never ending massive variety of wildlife viewing you get to experience, the activities you get to choose to do during the trip,  the great variety of accommodation locations enroute and mainly the fantastic crew made the trip one of my most enjoyable!

Most Inspirational Moment

There are a few moments but certainly visiting the Orphanage in Lake Bunuoni was a fantastic, humbling experience where inspirational, great work is ongoing. It was lovely to spend some time playing with the children and making them smile, although I would probably say they made us smile more than the reverse.  Highly recommended optional part of the trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Often is a fantastic tour leader - Intelligent, thoughtful, intuitive, funny and his eye for spotting animals is amazing.  Often, Bernard the Chef and Nerbet were a fantastic team and made the trip all the more special.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip consists of 7 nights in the temporary tents on some fab locations which does mean only drop down toilets in some instances (2nts) and no showers so people who arent used to camping should be aware of this! Dry Shampoo and wipes and hand sanitiser a must!  oh and a head torch! In terms of the optional activities, I would definitely recommend the once in a lifetime balloon ride over the Masai Mara.  It offers a difference perspective to the usual driving safari and offers breathtaking views and fantastic photo opportunites with a better than expected Champagne brekkie with a further driving safari back to camp.  At a rather hefty USD450 its the most you will spend on your trip but worthwhile save.

CARPATHIAN CULTURE AND WILDLIFE

I am really glad that I chose this trip.  Romania is a beautiful and fascinating country to which I hope to return.  I could have easily stayed much longer.  Villa Hermani is a lovely, clean and comfortable guesthouse with great food!

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing 9 bears and cubs from the bear hide was brilliant.  It was also great to see the work carried out at the sanctuary in Zarnesti in rescuing mistreated bears and providing them with an environment close to what they should have experienced as wild bears.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both Cosmin and Udo were very enthusiastic and knowledgable about the area and it's history : )

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would definately class some of the walking as strenuous, a walking pole might be useful as some of the up/down hills are steep!

CYCLING THE DALMATIAN COAST

This is a good cycling holiday in a lovely area, but it is expensive.  We had a small but very select and fun group!

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling on the beautiful Dalmatian coast.

Thoughts on Group Leader

She was very good; efficient and friendly

Advice for Potential Travellers

You need to be fairly fit to cope with the hills, and some distances in the heat.  Not too much for vegetarians to eat! But the fish is good.  Single rooms in the hotels were often not very good and poor value for money.
