A WEEK IN JORDAN

This was a well balanced holiday, with sufficient time to relax amidst enjoying almost all of the major sites of Jordan.  I would describe Jordan as a welcoming and friendly country, with a fantastic climate and wealth of fascinating history: social, political and archaeological.

Most Inspirational Moment

I think that seeing Petra unfold before me at dawn, before the throng of tourists arrived, was probably the most breathtaking moment, but experiencing some of the Holy Lands was similarly inspiring for me, and Wadi Rum was an experience not to be missed.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was full of energy and worked hard to ensure we had a thoroughly enjoyable trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go to Petra early in the morning on one of the days you stay there, and steer clear of the salad bar.  If you can fit it into your schedule, take an excursion to the baptism site on the River Jordan.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

Unmissable trip! Jordan has some spectacular sites and so much to do in the Wadi Rum. I would highly recommend it.

Most Inspirational Moment

Sleeping out in the Wadi Rum was my favourite part of the trip. Initially sleeping in the desert was the part I was most anxious about but the tour leader and the group made it the most fun part and I am definitely going back to do a weeks trek there. Moving from riding camels and watching the sun rise in the freezing desert to the warm sunshine of the Red Sea in the space of an hour was spectacular and expressive orf Jordan's diversity.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ali was an excellent leader. He was very knowledgable and spent time getting to know everyone. He cared about people's different situations and abilities and catered for everyone as far as possible so that included the rock climbers, the adventurers and all those just wanting to relax and take in the culture. It showed just how well he knew the areas. He really came into his own in the desert where you could see this was his favourite part of the trip and he started having fun and that rubbed off on the rest of the group and we all had a great time with him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be aware that on the last day the drive from the Red Sea to Amman on the desert highway is very long. There are no rest stops for at least 2 and half hours on this road.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

Fresh from a week in Jordan where i had a faboulous time. Brilliantly organised by Exodus and well looked after out there. Very happy to have gone and would recommend trip to everyone!

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra and Wadi Rum were the highlights, nature at its best!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ali was brilliant, friendly, knowledgable, funny - everything the make the tour even better.

Advice for Potential Travellers

for december time, pack light but warm clothes can get very cold, especially in the Wadi Rum. Enjoy the scenery and the friendliness of the people.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A fantastic trip – varied and interesting with lots to see and do.  The food was terrific and the sights amazing.  A week was just the right amount of time and the hotels were great!

Most Inspirational Moment

Obviously Petra, but I actually preferred the Monastery over  the Treasury.  It is well worth walking up to the Monastery - it is a bit of a hard slog but the Monastery really is spectacular.  There is a cafe there so you can sit and have a drink and admire the view.  That was a really lovely part of the trip. The desert was also excellent - the stars are so much better than at home, particularly if you look through binoculars.  We had a camel ride in the morning which was also a highlight for me.On our second day in Petra some of our group had a longer, guided walk with a Bedouin woman.  We did not see anybody else and it really felt like we were the only people in the world!  I would recommend this if you have the opportunity - the views were fantastic and it was good to get off the beaten track.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was Danny Haddad - I thought he was excellent.  He looked after the group well, was clear about all the arrangements and helped out with money changing etc.  Some of us had a problem with a taxi on the very last night and, even though Danny was not with us, he helped us to sort out the situation over the phone.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I travelled in November and it was definitely helpful having a range of different clothes and layers as the temperature did vary quite a lot.  Layering is the key!  It was not nearly as cold in the desert as I was expecting at that time of year which was a pleasant surprise.  I wore an Icebreaker top, thermal leggings and had my 4 season sleeping bag and was pretty hot!!  The Bedouin are able to provide sleeping bags and extra blankets but quite a lot of people in my group seemed to have their own sleeping bag anyway.I am not a vegetarian but the 2 vegetarians in our group did find some of the food choices a bit limited at times.  For me, as a meat eater, the food was excellent.  Loads of really nice kebabs!  The houmous and falafel was absolutely superb.  I took sterling cash but did not change any money at Amman airport.  The following morning our guide took us to a money exchange that had a better rate than the airport so I was glad I waited.  I changed £200 which saw me through the entire holiday.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

Jordan is a country with a big history and this is a short trip. The itinerary is therefore ‘well packed’. To get the best from the holiday you should expect to use the time to learn as much about this history as possible. Shopping etc will probably have to done before of after the official trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

The simple act of giving an orange to one of the young children running a 'nick knack' stall close to the monastery in Petra. This gave me a small appreciation of the warm hearted nature of the Jordanian people and really made want to return and explore the country in a more leisurely manner.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Danny must rank as one of the best guides I have come across. He was amazingly knowledgeable about his country and was clearly passionate about sharing this knowledge. He was very proud of his country and showed this with enthusiasm. He could not have done more for the group and was always available to help (sorry about phoning with our Amman taxi problems when you should have been resting ready for your next tour!). The time he spent with the group to ensure we had as trouble free time as possible seemed to go above and beyond what I would expect to be reasonable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This can be quite an intense week. To get the best from Petra especially expect a strenuous couple of days with a very good level of physical fitness to fully explore the site. Don't expect much free time to do your own thing but do expect to see and do a lot in a short space of time.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

This is a fantastic trip full of history and culture. Jordan is a wonderful place to visit, the people are very friendly and you feel very safe and well looked after. If you would like to visit the middle east this is the trip for you.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were so many wonderfull highlights to this trip it is hard to decide. Petra is amazing and takes your breath away when you see the Treasury for the first time after walking through the Siq as was the long walk up the steps to see the Monastary and the high place of sacrifice. You definitely need the 2 days there to take it all in. The Wadi Rum is perhaps my favourite place of the trip, its so peaceful there and you feel truly inspired by the stillness of the desert. Our bedhouin hosts provided a delicious meal and made us feel very welcome in their camp. sleeping under the stars just finished the experience off perfectly. The camel ride in the morning was the perfect way to end our time there, a real 'Lawrence of Arabia' experience.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Danny our guide was fantastic. His knowledge of all the places we visited was amazing and he brought the history of each place to life. He was very passionate about his country and wanted us to experience the best that Jordan had to offer us. We were a large group so we all had differerent demands but he was always willing to accommodate everyones needs.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is an action packed trip with not much time in some of the places have any 'free' time to look around or shop which may be frustrating for some. You get a free afternoon on the second day in Petra and there are plenty of souvenir stalls to brouse round and grab a bargain. The jewellery is particularly good quality here and the bedhouin traders always happy to barter.  There's a lot of history to take in in each place so it does help to have one of the guide books like 'The Lonely Planet' to refer to. Take a sleeping bag and plenty of layers for the night in Wadi Rum, it does get very cold at night.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

This is a fast-paced trip packed with activity; very much designed for anyone fascinated with the ancient history of the middle east. I loved Petra and Wadi Rum and thankfully we had enough time to really explore those places and the sunny weather to go with the visits … however, other aspects of the week were not so good…

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra has to be the highlight of this trip - it didn't disappoint.  The sheer scale of the ancient city was mind-blowing.  I loved exploring the heights above the heart of Petra and would particularly recommend the exhausting walk up to the Monastery and also the place of High Sacrifice.  Spooky!Wadi Rum was also a brilliant experience - we had an evening meal cooked in a desert oven.  So tasty! My third highlight was Jerash - a vast Roman city, situated to the north of Amman. I just wish this visit had been included at the end of the trip and not on day 1 when we were all exhausted from our 3am arrival the night before!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader, Dan, was extremely knowledgeable about Middle Eastern ancient history and was keen to share this with us.  However, sometimes his zest for his subject - and his desire to keep to the planned itinerary - created an inflexibility as regards tuning in to the needs and wants of the group.  A number of the female members of the group would have liked more opportunities for good quality shopping ... for example, we were rushed through the row of shops and stalls lining the main street in Madeba in order to reach the Church containing Mosaics ... Dan also tended to mumble, so stand near to him if you want to hear what he has to say! Our group numbered 22 so, frequently, hearing his discourse clearly was a real challenge!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take lots of immodium - about a third of our group got D and V!November is a great month to go on this trip if you are lucky with the weather...  the previous week the group had rain and cloud all week but we had sun! So take layers of clothing because even if it's hot in the day it's usually cold at night, particularly in Amman in the north. And take a rain proof jacket.Petra really is the high-light and you have two good days to explore.  If you want help to get around horses and donkeys and camels are available but can be high-spirited if egged on by their youthful owners! My sense is that on foot is best ... so take solid walking shoes for tramping over thos dusty and loose boulders and slippery steps.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A WEEK IN JORDAN

An excellent trip, highly recommended. Very varied, many things to do & see.

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra as Wadi Rum were beautiful, very special places as the weather was good the experience was very inspirational. The second day walk that we did with the local bedouin lady "Henna" was fantastic.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Danni has a wonderful easy  mannerisum,  and a gently spoken  informative way of putting across his considerable knowledge of the  history of his country  which he was clearly passionate about. He also was Considerate, And looked after us very well. Very responsible 5*****

Advice for Potential Travellers

Jordan was a bit more expensive than I would expected, so I would recommend taking a bit extra for drinks, especially alcoholic drinks.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A great experience for our first ‘group’ tour in over 30 years of travel. It was great just being able to turn up and enjoy. Thank you Exodus!

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra was the stand out - one of the best sights we have visited anywhere. We chose this tour because it gave us 2 full days there and we were not disappointed.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Danny was great - struck a good balance between keeping us on track and giving us space.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you do the hike up to the Treasury viewpoint - a must.
