Cycle Cilento & the Amalfi Coast

Great cycling with excellent food. Varied scenery and interesting history . Can be challenging on the long uphills and traffic congested coastal part but the views are amazing. Tasting real Italian foods. Sitting in old town squares enjoying the local wine.
Meeting like minded cyclists from around the world.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling up to the mediaeval village of Pisciotta before spending the night at the agriturismo, a small farm where we watched pasta being hand made for our evening meal. Seeing the magnificent ruins at Paestum. Cycling along the Amalfi coast with all the buses! Seeing the views. Tasting the best Buffalo Mozzarella ever.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paolo very good at leading a mixed group of abilities, keeping us together . Informative about the history and places were we went to see. Mixed well with the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If not used to long hills get some in before you go. As in the heat they are much harder. Enjoy!

Cilento and Amalfi cycle trip

Enjoyable trip through some scenic locations and good accommodation.

Most Inspirational Moment

Thoroughly enjoyed the last day's cycling along the Amalfi coast. Fabulous views and I felt that the drivers along that busy road were considerate to the cyclists.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paolo was a good leader, and was a great support to me personally when I struggled in the heat/climbs on the first day. Safety for the group was paramount to him, so sometimes I missed the reward of speeding down the descents after a tough climb.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Beware teh mosquitos in the agroturismo stop - they were waiting for us and the repellants seemed to be to their liking.

Cilento and Amalfi Coast

Good weather, good company, good food, good cycling, good views.

Most Inspirational Moment

The hilltop village of Ravello

Thoughts on Group Leader

Good but a little bit too cautious for some of the experienced cyclists

Advice for Potential Travellers

A lot of the hills proved quite challenging and most people thought the Moderate grading by Exodus was a bit ambitious.

Cycle Cilento & Amalfi Coast

Enjoyable trip cycling up a relatively quiet coastline of Italy and finishing off in spectacular style on the Amalfi Coast with really really good food along the way (additional lunches were incredible value at around €10pp). Only complaint was the late arrival of the group flight which meant that after a 3 hour transfer we did not arrive at our first nights accommodation in Palinuro until 3am in the morning (even if it hadn’t been delayed we would have arrived at 1.30am which is just too late).

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling 75kms on our last day along the Amalfi Coast road from Minori to Sorrento and back. Amazing! ...also cycling past the ruins at Paestrum. ...also the food was also incredible throughout.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paolo was really good at keeping the group together whilst cycling.....this may have been frustrating for the faster cyclists but meant he could keep everyone safe along the way.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Insect repellent! Italian mosquitos are relentless and none of us were prepared for them.

CYCLE CILENTO & AMALFI COAST

Cycling the Cilento and Amalfi coast was beautiful , challenging and thoroughly enjoyable. Our guides Paolo and Giovanni did an excellent job of taking care of us in every possible way. The food was magnificent and the accommodation was great. Cycling was very difficult in parts, there was some very steep sections, but we always stopped and recovered. A great trip with a great group of people, I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves to jump on a bike.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of the biggest climb and just enjoying the rugged beauty of the place. Cycling along the beautiful Amalfi coast road, with all it's winding and up's and down's.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paolo our group leader was always informative and helpful. He was a calming influence and always made you feel safe on the road. He has a passion for the beauty and history of the coast, without overdoing it.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are a casual bike rider who is up for a challenge do it. It is a beautiful part of the world.

CYCLE CILENTO & AMALFI COAST

Firstly, the bikes that we had for our week along the Amalfi coast were first class.  The whole group appreciated this, especially the lady who had hired an electric bike.It was a lovely bonus to have a pool at all but the last hotel, with our first view of the coastline from the hotel balcony absoutely stunning.  The guide was very knowledgeable and kept the group together, showing us hidden gems within the areas. And we couldn’t have ordered better weather!!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Realising that I'd got to the top of the hardest hill of the week without thinking about it!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paulo was quite reserved in talking about himself but, as a leader of a group, he was excellent in sharing his local knowledge and keeping the group together.  He could, I suppose, have circled round to the back of the group more rather than always riding out front, to make sure all of the group got maximum enjoyment from the trip.On the last free day on the trip, Paulo even took a group of us walking in the forests behind Amalfi which was beautiful and which we wouldn't have found without him

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is not a trip for those who only cycle down to the shops at home a couple of times a week - the hills are challenging and you've got to want to conquer them rather than being annoyed by their being there.  A couple of people on the trip only cycled the first day and then took up the whole of the possible recovery space for cyclists in the support vehicle

CYCLE CILENTO & AMALFI

Stunning scenery, knowleagable guide and the only way (apart from walking which would take a lot longer) to see Southern Italy.  Weather was disappointing but the guide used his experience and knowledge of the area to take appropriate decisions regarding safety and overall enjoyment of the holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

The incredible experience of witnessing the stunning views around every corner, including the sounds and smells of the countryside (herbs, flowers and fruit) which cannot be experienced in a car.  Also the high quality (and quantity) of the local food and wine which were incredibly good value in an area that I thought would be expensive.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lievan acted as the perfect guide as well as translator and local area expert on this trip (with the advantage of him being an archeologist).  His calm, professional approach and knowledge of the area gave us information/history that lazy people like myself would have had to research to find and also provided much needed breaks on those uphill climbs to point out a landmark or places of interest!!  Lieven was great company during the trip and his support in time of need (searching for medical attention on a bank holiday and acting as interpretor) was very much appreciated.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for the uphill climbs (take your spds/cycling shoes to take the strain off your quads) and make sure you are experienced in cycling on busy roads as it can be quite nerve racking when a coach comes round one of those tight bends in front of/behind you.The first morning included a challenging 10kms climb in the rain!!  The other days also consisted of several climbs (or 'small inclines' as described by our guide).  A good level of fitness is required to keep together as a group, however, the back up van is always close by to assist if necessary. Make sure you take adequate layers/warm weather clothes (chilly in the evening) and waterproof jacket for cycling and sightseeing as we did experience a high level of rain on our particular trip.

CYCLE CILENTO & AMALFI

An excellent week, despite some torrential rain on 3 of the days.  The timetable had enough flexibility to accommodate changes of plan and Lieven the guide kept us motivated throughout the long climbs.  Hard work was rewarded with spectacular views and wonderful photo opportunities.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of some relentless cimbs still on my bike.  If I had seen the climb beforehand, I might not have believed that I could do it!  The blues and turquoises of the sea at different points was amazing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent.  Very responsive to changes in weather and very conscious of safety on wet, slippery roads and busy traffic areas.  Bonded really well with the group and was a mine of local information.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Train well and go looking for some hills to climb before you depart as there are some long switchback climbs.  Having said that the bikes are very good and you will eventually grind your way up there if you are not so fit.  Just more enjoyable to stick with the group.

CYCLE CILENTO & AMALFI

This is my (our) 3rd Exodus Cycling Holiday, all of which ( Cuba and Turkey) we have enjoyed immensely but this was truly great at every level other than my personal fitness which did of cours improve. A great ( low cost0 region,an individual knowledgeable committed leader and surprise surprise top quality accomdation. The fellow cyclists were all brilliant. However the brochures promise that there was an optional ride on the last day which was not realisable. This was misleading and I would have enjoyed a leg stretch of some type. Its all about money I know as our leader explained and we had plenty of value in the holiday but it is good to be clear and accurate which I believe our understanding was not

Most Inspirational Moment

1. Looking from our balcony straight into Amalfi cathedral staircase and 3rd century Constinople doorway. Priceless! timeless! 2. Finding my wife (again).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Outstanding. Dutchman totally in touch with southern Italy and the Cilento in particular, personally involved. Mother hen, good fun who understood the balence between riding all day and stopping by great places. Where can you get 2.5 course lunch with wines and liqueurs overlooking the most beautiful bay for 7 Euros. line up an I will you.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Mug up on greeco Romano heritage.

CYCLE CILENTO & AMALFI

My partner Paul and I had a fantastic time on this cycling holiday. The group are still exchanging photos several weeks after returning home and it is lovely to see all those smiling faces each time. The cycling, company, accomodation and food were all spectacular. Thanks again to our cycle guide Peter for his enthusiastic and inclusive approach.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling in it, is a lovely way to discover more about  a country

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was great. Really went beyond the call of duty to make us all welcome and to get to know the local areas. As well as the cycling he had much to tell us about the history, culture and food of each area we cycled to.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just enjoy yourselves. Join in with the group, you will want to anyway.
