Top 5 Things to do on Italy Tours for Families

Visit Pompeii: Buried beneath tons of ash and pumice during the tragic eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD, Pompeii is one of the most compelling historic sites in the world. Now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the well-preserved ruins of the city give a fascinating insight into Roman life. A professional tour guide can lead you through the remains of houses, bakeries and bathhouses, where you’ll see the most beautiful frescoes decorating many of the interior walls. While the archaeological site is haunting, you’ll be mesmerised by the city ruins and the many artefacts that have been recovered over the centuries.

Walk Along the Rim of Mt Vesuvius: This huge volcano looms over the Bay of Naples and its catastrophic eruption in 79 AD was responsible for the destruction of the city of Pompeii. Just outside of Naples, Mount Vesuvius forms the ominous backdrop to Pompeii and is one of the most menacing active volcanoes in the world owing to the millions of homes that surround it. On Italy family trips an expert guide will lead you on a hike up to the tallest point of the volcano and from there you can walk around the main crater. This is an exhilarating and fascinating experience as you’ll also learn about its history and volcanic activity.

Kayak on the Amalfi Coast: The Amalfi Coast is one of the most spectacular coastlines in the world and a kayaking tour along its azure waters lets you see it from a different perspective. Spend half a day paddling below towering sea stacks and past sprawling beaches and ancient watch towers towards Runghetiello Grotto. This fabulous sea cave, which is named after a local fish, is great fun to explore and the children will be in their element here.

Go Swimming at Positano: Positano is a colourful town on the Amalfi Coast with brightly coloured houses clinging to the cliffsides and chic hotels draped in wisteria. Its main beach, known locally as Positano Spiaggia, is no less alluring with its gelato stalls and sun-bleached shoreline. Overlooked by rugged mountains and lapped by the Mediterranean-warmed waves, this is what kids’ dreams are made of. The waters are some of the clearest you’ll ever see and great for the children to swim in while you enjoy a little downtime in the sun.

Learn How to Make Pizza: There’s no denying that Italy is one of the prettiest countries in the world and its history is unrivalled, but you can’t have a family holiday here without paying homage to the pizza. This is its birthplace after all and what kids don’t love pizza? On our Pompeii and Pizza Family Holiday, all the family can enjoy a pizza-making class where you’ll learn how to create an authentic Neapolitan pizza. As well as discovering new cookery skills, you’ll also get to taste how unbelievably delicious traditional Italian pizza really is.

This was a jam-packed trip, taking in city life in Cape Town and experiencing the wide variety of wildlife on the coast and in the reserves. Our tour guides were friendly and informative and happily shared all of their stories and knowledge with us on the journey. There were so many highlights and our family enjoyed the changing scenery from the coast to the Karoo and everything in between. Thanks to Petro we sampled a real variety of food and drink and enjoyed trying lots of new things. We were very sad to leave and will return to explore more!

Zoe Gordon South Africa: Family Cape Adventure

This was a truly delightful holiday – one of my best ever. Beautiful, inspiring places to visit. Fabulous hotel with welcoming staff and delicious food. An amazing local tour guide who made us feel like VIPs. An itinerary custom-designed to delight all the family. Opportunities for the kids to learn to make local dishes in the hotel kitchen. A lovely tour group who we got on so well with. If exodus do other such holidays will join in an instant.

Phil Crocker Amalfi Coast Family Adventure

We travelled to Costa Rica as a family of four (children aged 9 and 12) and wow what a trip. Firstly, the group were brilliant company and all of the children very quickly became best friends. Secondly, David our guide knew nature like no-one else i’ve ever met, helping us see sloths, crocodiles, monkeys, Racoons, a humpback whale and many many bird species. Thirdly, the activites were perfectly pitched for the families, zip-lining, river tubing, horse riding and a boat trip to name a few of the highlights. And finally it was a faultless trip, everything ran on time, ran perfectly and was 100% hassle-free. We loved it, what a country!
