Loved this one..

As always, Exodus didn’t disappoint. The itinerary was great, we packed a lot in to the 9 day trip. Some early starts and long drives but the bus was comfortable and the air con worked well! Lots of walking on this trip, and be prepared for the pollution, if you have bad asthma I would consider a different trip as you are literally coughing with the smog!
But the busyness of the traffic is part of the adventure!
Sunrise in India isn’t a thing unfortunately due to the haze of pollution so the Taj Mahal wasn’t seen to it’s full beauty until the sun is higher in the sky. The dreaded sleeper train definitely is something I never wish to repeat, but it’s one night and so long as you don’t go to the toilet you’ll be ok haha ….I took shoe covers !!! So glad I did ! The beds are as hard as a table top !

Most Inspirational Moment

Varanasi is magical, the half hour of free time to worder through the crowds taking pictures of day to day life.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ronit was brilliant, very organised and such a friendly chap

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't take a huge suitcase like some did on my trip, you have to lug it through the train station yourself and if the escalator is broken, you're getting it up those stairs as well. Take shoe covers for the train, you don't want to get back in bed with what ever you've been wading though., and ear plugs. All in all a great trip European plugs. Take coffee bags, the coffee is vile.

The itenarary was great. The local group guide was great. However, I have some constructive criticism below.

The trip was very nice but I have some constructive comments. This was advertised as a premium trip, however the starting hotel in Casablanca was mediocre at best. Certainly not 4 stars. The hotel had a least 4 other tour groups staying there at same time. One of the groups had 40 persons. This all resulted in poor service and chaos. The last hotel in Marrakesh was also a disappointment. The towels we old and only 2 provided. This is just a symptom of overall. The food for breakfast was disappointing. The farewell dinner that was at the hotel was terrible. The service was unacceptable. We were divided into tables of 4 instead of a large group farewell table. It would be more appropriate to go out of the hotel for a farewell nice dinner. A sign on the front desk at the hotel offered rooms available for $100 USD per night. The local guide was very knowledgeable and kind and did a nice job. However it seems he has done a lot of adventure guiding but maybe not so much of the premium luxury sort of trip. He could use some coaching on higher end trips. We had 8 Brits and 8 Americas the were in their late 50s to early 70s demographic. All of seemed to be very well traveled and use to higher end accommodations. One day on the road we ate at a gas stations with 3 other tour buses. This was chaos and was not luxury. Another time when we did not have a evening meal provided by the tour, we asked the guide to take us as a group together and of course we would pay for our individual meals. The guide understandably did not have a bus, So he put us is in 4 or 5 taxis and did not pay the taxi driver. We had to gather up 20 local currency (about the equivalent of $2 each for the cab ride . The was annoying and should have certainly covered by our Exodus fees .

Most Inspirational Moment

The camel ride and staying in the Sahara desert at the hotel and at the glamping camp. Also when we were in the atlas mountains it was very nice Riad and nice walk and nice meal with a view of snow on the Atlas mountains. The cooking class in Marrakech was great.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Great and I would recommend him. I would go on another tour with him and I gave him a nice gratuity. However, he needs a bit of coaching for a high end travel group. Also we had a woman that had some health issues and had a great deal trouble walking. Not really appropriate for this type tour when we walked 20,000 to 25,000 steps some days. He was very kind and attentive to her and spent considerable time arranging to walk with her and get her to a destination while leaving us in the care of local guides. I appreciate his care of her, but he should balance the needs of the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There is a lot of walking and a lot of time on the bus. However it was a great experience and I recommend this trip.

Stunning Algarve Coastal Views

We spent 5 Algarve hiking days with two wonderful tour leaders. Each day provided an authentic hiking experience through local forested trails and breathtaking costal paths in the Algarve. Many other unique Portugal experiences were included and at the end you will definitely want to see, taste, and hear much more of this warm friendly country.

Most Inspirational Moment

The incredible Algarve coastline

Thoughts on Group Leader

Francisco and his co-leader Raphael were over the top prepared and accommodating for our group. They included many extra special events during the tour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring small pair of binoculars for viewing. The activity rating is more like a 3 than a 2, so prepare a bit beforehand. Some of the restaurants only accept cash, bring enough.

Great trip to explore the region of Puglia

I loved the itinerary! Saw so much in a week and at the same time did not feel rushed. I felt there was enough time to explore the highlights of the region. I enjoyed exploring Matera and Polignano a Mare. The lunch on day 5 was delicious – one of the best meals I have had in Italy. The coastal walk was lovely as well in Otranto. The places we stayed were so unique. I loved the Trulli house in Alberobello. I also loved the group and sharing the experience with like-minded people.

Most Inspirational Moment

Learning the history in Matera on the guided tour! Our guide was so knowledgeable and had a personal connection to the city.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Gabrielle was amazing! He was very personable, patient, and I enjoyed getting to know him throughout the week.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There was only a place to exchange dollars to euros in Lecce. I recommend exchanging money at the airport when you land or having a card to use ATM.

Northern India

Hectic trip with an excellent tour leader

Most Inspirational Moment

The boat rides at Varanasi to see the crematorium evening rituals and bathing ghats. Very spiritual experience. Seeing three tigers up close was also a highlight.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ronit was an exceptional leader. Nothing was too much trouble and he remained calm and unflappable at all times. He quietly and successfully organised everything to ensure a seamless holiday experience for us. He knew how to problem solve and use his contacts to make things work. I cannot speak highly enough of him. He was friendly and utterly professional at all times.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The overnight sleeper train can be a shock to the system. Take disposable shoe covers for the bathroom, you'll need them. The itinerary on this trip is packed and busy with very little downtime to relax so be prepared. The levels of smog and air pollution are very high so I'd recommend a mask at times. Also in early November it was very humid

Amalfi Coast - beautiful walks and stunning sceneries

Very enjoyable trip, with a nice variety of different walking routes. Luckily our group was on a similar fitness level, so we were able to always walk together. Most challenging are the stairs, felt like never ending… but the views were worth the effort.
The hotel is good regarding staff (very friendly and great service) and cleanness . Dinner was sometimes really nice, on other days a bit fade, which I found unusual for Italian cuisine. The breakfast was poor, unfortunately, every day the same (limited) choice, warm dishes were only offered during the first days. The standard rooms are small and can be dark, the superior room was nice (although at rather high extra cost, something for Exodus to rethink…). While the trip is highly recommended for the walks and overall experiences (5 stars), the hotel gets only 3 stars… also the “Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher” was missing for breakfast 😉

Most Inspirational Moment

the path of Gods and reaching the Top of Mount Vesuvius

Thoughts on Group Leader

Veriano was a great tour guide, lots of humor and very relaxed while keeping everything (and us) under control. He has lots of knowledge about the region and flora & fauna and made the walks entertaining and instructive.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for many stairs and hilly areas

Wild Algarve

The hike combined a holiday, a historical introduction to the Algarve, active coastal sustainability and a promotion of local businesses.

Most Inspirational Moment

Most of the trip was inspiring. No particular moment stood out more than others.

Francisco and Raphael

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go on the trip and enjoy the beauty of the Algarve, the knowledge and skill of the guides as well as an insight into the area’s past, present and developing future.

A must!!!!

This was one of the best trips I have been on in years. I was pleasantly surprised at how kind the Chinese people were. Our guide was absolutely fantastic, and probably one of the most knowledgeable I’ve ever had! Nothing was ever too big or too small for him and he’d always recommend additional activities in our spare time. China is like no other Southeast Asia country, and its vast development is fascinating! You get to see the modern day, China, as well as the old historic sites. If you enjoy your food, you will not be disappointed by the options on this trip what makes it even better if you only pay about 6 pounds for a huge dinner!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader, Dragon, was absolutely fantastic

Advice for Potential Travellers

Download an eSIM and also Alipay as cash is hard to use out there

A wonderful week in Jordan

Jordan was nothing sort of spectacular, offering a balance between culture, history, religion and leisure. It certainly is a trip that has to be done at least once in your life.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking the siq in Petra and finally having the Treasury come into view. Truly magical and pictures does not do it any justice.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour leader Mikhled was amazing as he was able to share the history on sites we visited and areas we passed through, which was fascinating. He was able to see to the entire group's needs and cared for everyone's well-being.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack light and make sure to carry cash, even though cards are widely accepted.

A fabulous trip

This holiday lived up to expectations! It was wonderful to see the whole island with varied walks and hotels and a really friendly group who gelled well from the outset. Bruno was an excellent guide who looked after us well and imparted much local knowledge as we passed through different terrain. The views on the coastal paths were spectacular, and the levada walks, especially the waterfalls one, were unique. We had to adapt due to a storm on the first day making the peninsula unsuitable, but Bruno quickly planned an alternative, and the rest of the week was dry and warm, with some days of sunshine, and some mist on occasion which added to the atmosphere.

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving on the top of the cliffs on the second walk and seeing the view, and a wonderfully peaceful swim in the rooftop infinity pool in Porto Moniz watching the sunrise.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Bruno was fun and helpful, and very informative about the walks. He was always ready to lend a hand in the tricky bits! Great at recommending restaurants - we had some fabulous meals, and also at directing us to the best supermarkets to buy lunches.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Trekking poles are really needed as there are a lot of down hill walks, and you need to have nerves of steel when the path is a bit slippery and there is a sheer drop very close! It’s really worth it though, and you get a tremendous sense of achievement when you have navigated those sections. On the levada there are barriers in some of the most scary bits. As Bruno lives locally he only stayed with the group for two nights, so the group needs to self-organise to ensure solo travellers who want to socialise and eat with others can do so. Bruno suggested setting up a What’s App group for this, which we did to also share photos, and he sent recommendations so we were able to book tables, which worked well.
