INCA TRAIL & THE AMAZON RAINFOREST

Booked this trip in February and was so excited to go and it surpassed all of my expectations- so well organised, fantastic group and loads of amazing experiences well done exodus!

Most Inspirational Moment

It was the first real trek I had every done and getting to the top of dead womans pass on day 2 of the trek was a fantastic feeling. Arriving at the sun gate and waiting for rest of group to arrive and have our group photo was a special moment and one of the guys had carried a can of beer since the start of the trek which we all shared to celebrate seeing Machu Picchu for the first time!

What can I say to do him justice as Fabrizzio was AMAZING such a star leader. Nothing was too much trouble, he had such a laid back style but was so informative and always made you feel that everything was taken care of which is just what you need on a trip like this. He was so friendly and would want him as my leader on every trip if possible!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book this trip! It's full on and you are always on the go but it's all worthwhile. The rainforest is fab def take a head torch! For the trek, a walking pole really helped me but I just bought mine in Cuzco for 40 soles (£10) and also a poncho in case it rains 20 soles (£5). When you go to lake titicaca they recommend you to buy a present at the port just before you go to your local family but I wish I had taken a present from home like others had such as luxury soaps,candles, games for the kids. My trip was recommended for solo travelers and I was lucky enough to be given single occupancy due to numbers in the group and this is something I would pay for next time as it's nice to have some time on your own at the end of a hard days trekking! Fab trip with fantastic memories and can't wait to get my next one booked!

KENYA & TANZANIA ADVENTURE

An adventure indeed! The wildlife viewing is incredible, from big cats to birds. The cultural side to the trip is extremely interesting when visiting the masai’s. There is so much to do and see on this trip and don’t expect your 8 hours kip every night, but you have Zanzibar at the end, where you can relax on white sandy beaches overlooking the crystal blue sea.

Most Inspirational Moment

There isn't just one inspirational moment. The balloon safari was magical and how many people can say they had champagne in the Serengeti! Camping in the wild is a fantastic experience. We had a small herd of zebra and some elephant wander past us in our campsite in the Ngorongo as we were around the campfire! I also couldn't believe how close we got to the big cats on some of the safari's and you're bound to see lions fairly close up on this trip. And what can I say about Zanzibar but...paradise! Well, the last 2 days in the north are. Stone town is very interesting, especially the spice tour. You can also do a lot of shopping here and as they say....'it's free to look'!

Absolutely amazing! They put 110% effort into this trip and made us feel safe, whilst having the trip of a lifetime. I have written in to Exodus saying how good they were. We did have a slight mishap with the truck radiator half way through. They were that good, that 2 of them stayed with it to fix it through a sandstorm, while the other organised transport to the next place and we were only 15 mins behind schedule.

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

Famous sites that everyone has heard about, you should go at least once and this is an excellent way to do it.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking in the footsteps of the residents of Herculaneum of 79AD and almost expecting to meet one round the next corner. Also scrambling round the crater of Vesuvius, it looks exactly what a volcano should look like.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip is rated 'leisurely' but we actually did quite a lot of walking, which was fine, frequently up and down. The cliff walks, the volcano, Capri and the small towns involved many steps or steep slopes that require moderate fitness to enjoy.

KILIMANJARO CLIMB - RONGAI ROUTE

Everything from the pre-trip support (to calm my nerves) to the guides and dirvers was unfaultable. Organisation of the trip was fantastic. Catering climbing up a moutain 5*! We were looked after in every way to ensure reaching the destination of the summit and back was accomplished. Could not ask for more!

Making it to the Summit. Watching the sunrise at Gilman's point was also a highlight. But what amazed me the most was the porters carrying my 15kg bag plus there necessities and food etc.

INCA TRAIL & THE AMAZON RAINFOREST

This holiday certainly gives you a full and varied insight into Peru and I enjoyed all the different aspects of it. I’m glad I walked the Classic Inca Trail, but it’s certainly not an easy option!

KILIMANJARO CLIMB - RONGAI ROUTE

This was an incredible trip! I hugely enjoyed the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro and would highly recommend this trip to those of you that are seeking a holiday adventure! It was a very well organised trip from beginning to end.

Most Inspirational Moment

Flying into Tanzania from Kenya we got the most amazing view of the challenge we were going to face - absolutely awesome! Kilimanjaro didn't reveal itself again from behind the cloud until we were in our second camp on a starry night with a bright moon. It was a spectacular and magical view that I won't ever forget! We didn't see the peak again until we were standing on it a few days later!

Our head guide, Davis from the AWC, was exceptional! He was a natural leader with a great sense of humour which really made our trip fun. He organised us and the rest of his team with great skill but above all kept us all safe on the mountain. The rest of the team were excellent too - the assistant guides, cook and porters were a fantastic team that worked very hard to make our holiday enjoyable, memorable and safe. Well done to the AWC!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do not underestimate the challenge involved in climbing Kilimanjaro - it is a tough but hugely rewarding and fun experience! Enjoy the journey as well as the ultimate goal of standing on the roof of Africa! If you don't like camping, going to the loo in a bucket and all that goes with a multi day walk this trip really, really isn't for you! Be prepared for the cold and rain - make sure your kit is up to scratch and that you have plenty layers! You will be very well fed so there is no need to take mountains of snacks with you - spare your porter the extra weight as trust me you won't need loads of extra food, just the odd snack and some chocolate or sweets will do! My biggest piece of advice is drink plenty water as it really does help with acclimatisation - I drunk about 5 litres of water a day and am convinced it helped me get to the top. Finally, a positive mental attitude undoubtedly helps (and it is more enjoyable for your fellow climbers!) but do listen to your body and the guides!

KERALA & TROPICAL INDIA

Wow! Kerala & Tropical India Cycling trip was all we expected and more.Excellent trip – great cycling, great scenery – with wonderful variety, great tour team & great group to be on holiday with.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling up Otty Spending time at the Orphanage - with children happy to see you and speak to you Feeling famous - everyone saying "Hello" "Where you come from?" "Where you going?", having our photos taken by the locals and being in the local paper - news article of our trip because of a serindipidous moment. Houseboat - relaxation and woderful views

we really had three - although Vishnu was the leader, the whole experience was enhanced by Joseph as bike leader and Shibu as driver/ waterman / bike repair man - they made a great team and made our trip a fantastic experience.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go on this trip No need to cover up - as suggested in brochure/ trip notes- as a female - vest tops and cycle shorts were fine except in Mysore Palace and around the elephant tour linked to the Temple

INCA TRAIL, TITICACA & NAZCA

Exceeded my expectations. Well planned itinery. plenty of time to acclimatise. Loved going to Titicaca first and loved the trail and subsequent itinery through the Andes, Nazca and Paracas. It was like 3 holidays in one!

Most Inspirational Moment

The sense of being pulled through the Sun Gate by the full rays of the sun giving that first sudden full sight of Machu Picchu! I burst into tears. Camping on the ridge above Phuyupatamarca, gorgeous sunlight. climbing up for a better view of snow capped Mt Veronica with the sun setting and seeing a full Broccken Spectre, absolutely amazing

Juan was the best guide I have ever come across. His English is amazing, his knowledge fantastic, his photographic knowledge unbelievable and very very attentive to everyones needs. He was very caring and patient.IN FACT he should be the only guide you ever use!!! Keep him fully employed so as not to lose him!

Dont forget full waterproofs any time of year! Hot water bottle for tent.

THE TROPICAL SOUTH

A wonderful holiday which ticked all the right boxes – great guide (Lukose), good mixture of city and countryside, good hotels, glimpses of local life – highly recommended as a great first time holiday to Southern India.

Most Inspirational Moment

The houseboat. There is something intrinsically peaceful and calming about meandering along the back waters on a fabulous houseboat where the crew conjure up wonderful meals from, seemingly, thin air, oh and banana fritters just in case we were hungry in the afternoon!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lukose was brilliant. He anticipated our every question and had an uncanny ability to appear as if from nowhere as soon as anyone even passingly mentionned that there was something they wanted to ask him. Very knowledgeable about the places we visited and India in general; and very quick to call someone if there was a question he didn't know the answer to. He was very quick to get to grips with different peoples' wants and needs (beer and ice playing a large part in that!). The trip ran like clockwork. What can I say, a good few of us wanted to take Lukose home with us to organise our lives in the UK!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Definitely go on this trip it's a great experience. Don't expect to be able to go to lots of bars, there isn't the same kind of drinking culture in Kerala as there is at home, but Kingfisher beer is available in most places! The day walk from Mattupetty Dam was a lot harder than many people anticipated. The walk is really quite steep all of the way up and combined with the humidity / heat does make it quite difficult. That said it is worth doing, the view from the top is great and it was good to do something more active. The air con on the house boat was really cold at night, take layers! I wouldn't recommend the visit to Kanyakumari - we spent a lot of time queuing and there really wasn't anything much to see. The wooden palace about an hour away was beautiful so perhaps that could be a shorter optional trip. The German bakery, Waves, at Kovalam is a must visit restaurant - food and cake is fantastic, as is the sister Fusion restaurant.

BHUTAN: LAND OF THE THUNDER DRAGON

An excellent tour with a fine mix of culture and activity. Varied, well organised – we enjoyed it very much.

Most Inspirational Moment

Inspirational? an extreme word ... but very enjoyable or interesting?Flying into Paro and finding even the control tower was in local Bhutanese architecture! People wandering around the tarmac taking pictures instead of rushing into the arrivals hall.Finding that on trek we were actually provided with seats with backs! (I may be 'sad' but, as you get older, it can be pretty uncomfortable camping without.) Rising early to enjoy the pink rising sun on the snowy mountains and frost at 4,000 metres. (Not a requirement of the trip!)The fantastic perfume from some of the small rhododendrons as you walk past. This was not from flowers but the bushes themselves. Apparently they are used for incense.And, of course, the Thimpu festival, especially all the happy children, many lining up for photos. The combination of proud, colourful traditional dress with modernity - the mobile phones and the man taking a picture of his grandchild on his iPad.

We had two - in our view both excellent but in different ways, with different approaches and different personalities.We were on the same trip as the previous review so it just shows how much your view of a leader can depend on your experience of him/her.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Yet another warning about fitness. At normal UK altitudes I would not have found the trek any problem at all. Add 3000-4000 metres, deduct the relevant amount of oxygen and it becomes a bit more of a challenge - even if you don't get real 'altitude sickness'. So make sure you are fitter than you think you need to be. That said, it was only 2-3 days at that altitude.Plenty of water was provided for drinking so don't bother with supplementary filtering etc. equipment.Don't worry about changing money beforehand. Just take a good number of smallish GB notes to change when there (or dollars or Euros but they seemed to prefer pounds.) Much can be paid for in sterling anyway.Pay attention to the dress code advice for temples and festivals. Unfortunately, requirements can change but on our trip it was important to have long sleeves and a collar - including on the first day in Paro, as you visit the Dzong in the afternoon.Don't underestimate the potential cold at night on trek. A 4-season sleeping bag is absolutely fine but it depends on your 'internal central heating' - and the weather - as to whether 3-season will suffice. In October, it could be quite hot during the day - especially up hill(!) - say 20 degrees - but below freezing at night. It rained lightly one day and we had a short hail storm on another.There was the usual problem with tipping. There is a need to pay small amounts into a kitty for water and, unless you object, small offerings in temples. There are large numbers of people who are due tips - if you consider the support staff on the trek and the drivers, too. So you can have arguments to your heart's content in the group as to the best way to organise group tips but be aware that it can add up....
