WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

As a much younger traveller then most who were on the trip, at 19, I found it an interesting and enriching experience. However, as with all holidays there were high and low points. Seville is an amazing city, and it has inspired me to return, because a few hours out of the day was simply not enough to explore such a jewel of history and culture. The walks were relatively easy, and had enough variety to remain interesting, and the location of the Cortijo was, while very remote, beautiful. However, the food one the first two nights was disappointing, though it did improve somewhat.

Most Inspirational Moment

Driving up winding mountain roads, right to the top of the Grazelema Mountains was certainly a high point, if slightly nerve-wracking! The vultures that flew almost level with where we were eating lunch that day was also amazing. But of course, the city of Seville was completely amazing, and I was loathe to leave after such a short time.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was very knowledgeable, if a little long winded. We were lucky enough to have two guides, one of whom was a native of the area, which gave an insiders view of the area. He could have perhaps been clearer about the exact nature of the walks, but overall was completely competent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Its an enjoyable holiday, and if you are looking for some Winter Sun, along with activities then its perfect. However, the remoteness of the location means there is very little interaction with the local people.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

A relaxing holiday in pleasant surroundings. Well organised and was very well looked after during the week

Most Inspirational Moment

The final day walk had spectacular views. The day in Seville was also a nice break in the middle of a week of walking

Thoughts on Group Leader

Friendly and helpful

Advice for Potential Travellers

I had not done an exodus holiday before. The organisation of the trip was excellent and I did not have to worry about doing anything once on holiday. I was unsure as to the standard of physical activity so opted for an A/B walking holiday to get an idea of the level of difficulty - the A grade walks were probably too leisurely for what I was after so would opt for more challenging holidays in future. Having done this holiday I would not do the same holiday again but would certainly book another holiday with Exodus.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

This felt like a real holiday with all the details taken care of by Exodus and the farmhouse manager.  The scenery was beautiful and the walks diverse in the terrains they covered.

Most Inspirational Moment

The journey up to the Pass of the Doves was incredible (so long as eyes were closed on some of the hairpins).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chris the group leader was very calm and measured and well informed - and by request put on a quiz to test how well we had been listening.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walking is relatively easy (around 6 miles a day) - if you like long or steep walks this isn't the holiday for you.  However if you want a really relaxing break it probably is.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

This is the first time I had this type of holiday with a guide and a bunch of people I didn’t know. I was worried that I wouldn’t be happy to be told where to go/when to go/what to do by someone else on my holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

The location was beautiful and remote, no TV/ Internet . We were very lucky with the weather which for me was one of the most important factors for enjoying the whole experience. The views on the walks were great and everyone in the group was very nice.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Andy was a very friendly guide, easy to talk to with a good sense of humour. On the last day I wanted an alternative to the walk and Andy recommended a beautiful village in the area of the walk. I was dropped off on the way and was picked up on the way back. This was a different day to the ones before but still very enjoyable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The cortija offers a cosy homely environment but is quite basic. The nearest village is 20 minutes away so you need to bring everything that you might need with you. There are no real facilities for washing clothes and those can get very dirty so bring enough to last the week.Make sure you get concrete directions where to meet the leader in the airport as it wasn't as simple as we were made to believe at home.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

Just to repeat what other scribes have written, food, farmhouse, driver, manager, smiling dog, staff, fellow travellers all first class. Thanks.

Most Inspirational Moment

Being 60 somethings wondering if we could hack it, we did.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I'LL never forget what's his name!!! top man, kept muttering about it being really lovely in May.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just pay the money and go, worth every penny sorry euro.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

A fabulous holiday.  Cortijo Rosario has very friendly welcoming staff and fabulous food.  The walks are lovely and although we had unusually hot weather (even for June), we enjoyed every moment.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to decide between the last two days as both walks were in the hills with stunning views.  Perhaps the walk to the El Chorro Gorge just gets top spot, particularly as we finished the afternoon with a swim in the lake opposite the King's summer residence!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fantastic, could not have been better!

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you go in June, take lots of sun block!

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

Walking in Andalucia is a magical holiday. Wonderful walks with amazing views and wildlife. Fantastic food and hospitality at the Cortijo run by Anne and Bill who’s philosophy of ‘my house is your house’ is exemplified throughout by all the staff.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking in the Grazalema Mountains over to the village of Benaocaz. Vultures nesting only metres away almost sharing our lunch! A walk we didn't want to end. Standing on the cliffs high above El Chorro Gorge and just watching the scenery, followed by swimming in the turquoise green waters of the King's lake at the end of another perfect day in paradise.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alejandro was a fantastic leader. Although new to Spain he had learnt a wealth of information about the area. He was a brilliant guide giving meticulous walking information. He was interested in all the wild life and knew an amazing amount about it. Above all he has a superb sense of humour and was really good fun to be with. We all had a great week.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a good back pack and water bottles if going in summer months. We found sticks really useful.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

The best Exodus trip I’ve been on!

Most Inspirational Moment

The landscape and flowers of the area were fabulous and inspiring.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alejandro was superb- the best guide so far with Exodus. He went out of his way to meet the needs of the group in a friendly, generous and fun way. He clearly loved his job and his enthusiasm for travel is infectious! Great to have a guide fluent in the language- really helped the trip run smoothly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take sun cream with a high enough factor!

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

This was my first trip of this kind and it far exceeded my expectations.  The walks were all different and very interesting. Really fun group of people.  Our guide Suzy was excellent.

Most Inspirational Moment

The mountain walk was amazing.  Fabulous scenery and so many lovely spring flowers.  An absolutely brilliant day!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Suzy was an excellent leader.  Her knowledge of the area, the flowers and the history of the place was phenomenal.  She also talked knowledgebly about her other trips and adventures.  She was also great fun, every walk ended in a bar for a drink before returning to the Cortijo.  We were also joined by Alejandro, who was taking over from Suzy in Andalucia, which was a fun addition to the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As a novice I took walking boots but walking shoes would have been far more suitable for this level of walking in Spring.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

Andalucia is a very special place with a strong and impressive sub-culture of its own. This was an enjoyable trip in every aspect made extra special by our tour leader, the lovely Suzie. She is a gem. Hang on to her Exodus.

Most Inspirational Moment

No one inspirational moment, but rather a week of perfect peace walking in beautiful countryside with some lovely people.

Thoughts on Group Leader

As stated earlier, Suzie is one of those special people who don't come along all that often. We met her in Italy last year when she led the "Amalfi Coast" walk and were impressed then. Of all the tour leaders I have met (and that's quite a few) she is up there with the very best.

Advice for Potential Travellers

No. Everyone has to learn how to get the most out of life in their own way. However, if you don't like walking don't sign up for a walking holiday! (someone did just that on this trip)
