Top 5 Walking Routes on Tyrol Tours
Bichlach to Lake Schwarzsee: This classic walking route from Bichlach to Schwarzsee guides you almong the most picturesque landscapes, past traditional farmhouses and through hushed woodland. On arrival at Lake Schwarzsee, you’ll be mesmerised by the views of the Kaiser Mountains that make up its dazzling backdrop. In the summer months, the lake can reach up to 27°C, making it perfect for a spot of wild swimming. Lake Schwarzsee also contains lots of natural minerals which are extremely good for the skin, so it’s almost like having your own mini spa!
Tyrolean Way of St. James: This historic pilgrimage route, known by the Spanish as “El Camino de Santiago”, is one of the most famous trails in the world. Spanning 270km from Lofer im Pinzgau to St. Christoph am Arlberg, the Way of St James takes you on a fabulous journey through magnificent scenery. Along the way you’ll visit natural sites such as the Öfenschlucht gorge, Lake Pillersees and the imposing peaks of the Steinberg mountains. You can give your legs a rest as you take the chairlift up to the panoramic mountain Buchensteinwand, which stands at 1,450m and overlooks the most spellbinding Tyrolean views.
Kartnall Nature Walk: If you prefer more gentle walks on Tyrol trips, the Kartnell Nature Walk is a great trail that runs through the Austrian countryside. Beginning in the pretty village of Neustift, you’ll follow the Ruetz River to Bichl. Along the walk you’ll pass below dramatic mountains, rock formations and a glaciated valley where hidden treasures hide around every twist and turn. As you arrive at the Kartnell nature site, standing at almost 1,300m, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views across the Stubei Glacier. Learn about the life of local farmers and see the goats, sheep and cows that graze the land.
Stubai Glacier Trail: A cable car will take you up above 3,200m to theEisgrat mountain station, commonly referred to as the ‘Top of the Tyrol’, where the Stubai Glacier lies. From here, views over the Italian Dolomites command your attention and you’ll want to take a moment to appreciate the sheer natural beauty of the landscape. Walk the Famous ‘Streif’: While this isn’t exactly a walking trail as such, the Streif is a world-famous downhill ski course that runs from theHahnenkamm mountain in the Kitzbuhel Alps. Follow the ski route on foot and experience one of the most fearsome ski runs in the world as well as breathing in the unparalleled views of the Kaiser Mountains, the Kitzbuheler Horn Mountain and Lake Schwarzsee. Approximately 50,000 visitors visit The Streif each year and it’s deemed one of the most celebrated skiing competitions. En route you’ll come across display boards that tell of The Streif’s incredible history.
