October Departures

Last minute vacations departing in  October

As summer makes a slow escape in Europe, October is an ideal time of the year to explore some of Europe’s most sought-after locations, as you’ll get to experience the beautiful autumn colours while also enjoying fewer crowds. Further afield, wildlife-spotting opportunities in Madagascar are great this time of year as lemurs are more active, while in Peru, trekking conditions are ideal and cultural festivals are in full swing in major cities.

Traveling during the month of October means there are fewer crowds, minimal rainfall and warm to moderate temperatures, making it a great time for a cycling trip. Our Cycle Cilento & the Amalfi Coast trip is the perfect way to take in the beautiful scenery of the Italian coastal towns, without getting overwhelmed in the usual hustle and bustle in the peak of summer. In between your exploring, it’s still pleasant enough to spend some time on the beach and the temperatures are ideal for wandering around the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Pompeii and Vesuvius.

Or why not experience the hidden gems of Portugal, with our Walking Portugal’s Wild Algarve trip? Portugal’s mainland surprisingly has more sunshine per year than California, and the Algarve in October is still relatively warm, with average daily temperatures sitting around 24ºC. This makes it the perfect walking weather to explore the coastal villages and pristine beaches.

October marks the end of Madagascar’s dry season, making it a great time to enjoy the outdoors and observe the wildlife on our Madagascan Discoverer trip. Baby Lemurs and the Fossa, both endemic to Madagascar, are commonly spotted during October in the birthing season, which can enhance your wildlife experience.

If you want a cultural experience, then a visit to Peru, Best of Peru – Premium Adventure is a good option. If you’re lucky, you may get to witness the Lord of the Miracles processions in Lima and Cusco, where bursts of purple robes flood the streets. October is the tail end of Peru’s winter season, but you can still enjoy dry, fine weather across the country. Minimal rainfall and blue skies make your one-day Inca Trail trek easier to do. You’ll also enjoy unobstructed views of the Machu Picchu and landscapes of the Andes thanks to fewer crowds in this shoulder month.
