Got to love driving

A lot of time spent on the minibus. A variety of places visited for a short time.

Most Inspirational Moment

Zip lining over the forest tops.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent, very knowledgeable and kept the group on schedule.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Consider if alternate days of driving is what you had in mind. You will see a lot but cover hours of driving to do so.

Fantastic experience

Lovely group of 12, knowledgeable & hard-working guide, good safe driver, wonderful locations & wildlife

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing two male sloths fighting in the trees

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent

Advice for Potential Travellers

I was worried about mosquitoes but there were hardly any (Feb/March) - we stopped using bug spray. Bring old leggings or shorts to protect backs of legs from sun when snorkeling - one of our party got painfully burnt. Or at least bring reef-safe sunscreen.

Egypt

7days in Egypt

Most Inspirational Moment

Luxor temple by night

Thoughts on Group Leader

Well organised but more concerned to keep to the itinerary than to allow time to appreciate the sites

Advice for Potential Travellers

This itinerary was demanding in terms of travelling to reach all the sites but well worth the effort involved

Jordan

5 days in Jordan

Most Inspirational Moment

Sunset at Wadi Rum, and walking through Petra

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent, enthusiastic and considerate. Went the extra mile

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would recommend this trip to Jordan wholeheartedly. A very welcoming country with amazing Natean, Roman, Byzantine and Bedouin sites to appreciate.

Disappointing trip

Overview of this trip is misleading, I soon realised I was on the wrong trip for me. This is NOT an active trip, in two weeks there is a three hour stroll (trainers are fine) and the included kayaking is not a tour but one hour circling around in a very small enclosed area of Ha long bay. Lots of additional bus time to that in the itinerary with several hours on most days travelling through urban areas and far too much time spent in cities or busy places.

Most Inspirational Moment

The sleeper train as I hadn’t experienced that before. Cycling was enjoyable, finally off the bus, but very flat so perfect for non-cyclists.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Duy was very cheerful, reliable, organised and patient. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the places we visited.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is the tour for you if you enjoy bus tours and visiting busy cities. The activity is very limited and easy, so suitable for anybody who’s not a walker or cyclist. There are many nights when you can’t take your full luggage with you, in addition to that detailed in the itinerary, so be prepared for a lot of packing and unpacking. Note for wildlife lovers that there was a distinct lack of any wildlife or birds seen on this trip.

Reply from Exodus

We’re grateful for Sally for taking the time to review her experience in Vietnam, although we’re very sorry to read that the trip didn’t match up to the expectations she had prior to departure.

We would note that the itinerary for Sally’s group ran according to the breakdown we give in our trip notes, which details the amount of walking, kayaking, and cycling our groups can expect. Although we understand that Sally disagrees, we feel that, as a Culture trip, an activity level of 3 (Moderate) is appropriate for Trails of Vietnam, as the activities do require a higher baseline level of fitness than our level 1 (Leisurely) Culture trips.

Our product team are very confident that this grading is appropriate based on the overall feedback we receive for Trails of Vietnam; we would share that, for departures which ran in 2023 and so far in 2024, the majority of our clients rated the accuracy of the trip notes as either ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ I their post-holiday feedback forms. That said, we would not be closed off to making amendments in this regard should future general feedback more reflect Sally’s comments.

We are, however, concerned at Sally’s comments about there being no natural light in her rooms on three nights, and are following this up with our local team in Vietnam.

A memorable trip with a lovely group!

A thoroughly enjoyable tour which enabled us to experience the different regions of this beautiful country together with its amazing and varied wildlife.
Everything ran smoothly and the (many!) early starts were a great idea meaning that we could visit places whilst they were still quiet and uncrowded.
Our driver, Randall, was extremely friendly, helpful and skilful in his role – a great asset to the trip overall.

Most Inspirational Moment

Many moments…..! Exploring the quiet waterways of Tortuguero. Early morning swimming in the pool of the waterfall at La Fortuna. Seeing the cloud formations at the Continental Divide. Walking/swimming at the deserted beaches of Manuel Antonio NP. Experiencing the relative isolation of the Savegre valley….and more!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Andres was an exceptional group leader - the best mix of educator and entertainer. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about flora and fauna and we learned so much about the rich biodiversity of Costa Rica. He also kept us interested and amused with information about culture, politics, education and more personal tales, when his sense of humour shone through. He was very concerned for our safety and well being, making sure we were always aware of any potential dangers/problems.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As advised in the notes, pack for a variety of weathers. We were lucky and had mostly lovely warm/hot weather but also a few cooler days with the inevitable rain when waterproofs were useful. There are a couple of opportunities for doing laundry as items do take a long time to dry.

Introduction to the island, its people and the wildlife.

We saw a lot of wildlife due to the skill of our guides. By the end of the holiday we were able to spot the birds and animals ourselves. Kept busy with many activities and group meals. We felt privileged to see such rare animals in their own habitat in disappearing rainforest.

Most Inspirational Moment

On the river Kinabatangan we were able to see the orangutans, horn bills, prob is us monkey and many birds in the wild. It was much better than seeing them at the feeding platforms.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rony was excellent throughout being helpful, sociable and knowledgeable. He had the skill as group leader which meant he included everyone in all the activities. I am profoundly deaf but was able to take part and with support hear the talks. He explained the culture and context of the wildlife as well as the bare facts. We really felt looked after.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It was not necessary to have leech socks if you had long socks to tuck your trousers into. It was essential however to have insect repellent and to pack a light suitcase. You are moving regularly and the packing needs to be minimum.

BORNEO WILDLIFE

An excellent introduction into Borneo wildlife. We were a group of 8 and spent a fascinating two weeks discovering the birds and animals of Borneo. Great accommodation and and excellent guide.

Most Inspirational Moment

Snorkelling near KK - beautiful fish and coral plus a large turtle

Thoughts on Group Leader

Roni was great - always informative and incredibly enthusiastic. Took us to lots of interesting places to eat and made sure we saw a huge variety of wildlife.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take two water bottles - it is hot and humid. Walking poles also useful. Be prepared for long and often bumpy rides - the roads outside the cities are not great. While this trip concentrated on wild-life spotting, there is also amazing vegetation with flowers and funghi - don't just look up, there is a lot to see when you look down as well!

Walking the Amalfi Coast

A fantastic week of walking. Scenery is stunning. Food is delicious. Hotel great. Lovely group and a great leader.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking the Mount Vesuvius crater in the sunshine ☀️

Thoughts on Group Leader

Severio

Advice for Potential Travellers

Itinerary can change depending in the weather so “go with the flow” as even the group leader can’t summon up the sunshine. Do the Mount Vesuvius crater …it really isn’t that scary and those in my group who didn’t do it were so disappointed when we fed back to them about how accessible it is. A good level of fitness is required as there are a lot of steps!!

As per the description

A fantastic trip which was organised, managed and surpassed expectations

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the male and format Quetzal

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alejandro Rodriquez was an excellent and very passionate leader. He was extremely knowledgeable about his country it’s history, it’s eco policy and education surrounding this, the fauna, wildlife and its people. He mixed well with the group and was highly regarded by all and was well respected. He chose lovely places to eat and was always available to help. He had a great sense of humour and is a true ambassador for his country and Exodus.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take water proof shoes for wet landings and waterproof bags.
