Solo Travel

What our travellers say

Here’s what some of our past solo travellers had to say:

“Exceptional! After decades of solo travel, doing it all myself, this was a game changer being in a small group…I like my space a lot yet everyone was so authentic, like-minded.”

– Arlette Lee, Exodus Traveller

“The trips are so well organised. I like to travel alone which is well catered for on their holidays, as there are often several other singles on their trips.”

– Gary Brooks, Exodus Traveller

SOLO TRAVEL FAQs

Can I get my own room when I travel solo?

On our trips, we offer twin-shared rooms with a fellow traveler of the same gender, but if you’d like the flexibility to book your own private room, you can add a single supplement to your booking for a small additional fee.

This is my first experience travelling on a guided group tour, how does group time work?

Our small guided-group tours are led by experienced local experts and typically have 8-16 people in one group. Our itineraries are designed to showcase the best highlights and hidden gems of your destination, while also providing an inclusive atmosphere. During the day, you’ll take part in daily activities with your group, and your guide will accompany you to dinner and help you choose regional specialties. We also include some downtime and free days on our trips, where you can explore on your own and take advantage of your guide’s local knowledge to find the best restaurants, museums, art galleries, and more.

What will my group be like?

We are fortunate to have travelers joining us from all corners of the globe, with many coming from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and spanning a wide range of ages. Even better, over 50% of our customers choose to travel solo with us, so we rarely have a group that only has one solo traveler – most are a great mix of solos, couples, and friends traveling together. Before your trip begins, you will also be invited to join our “Departure Lounge” by email, where you can post a message, start a discussion with other travelers, ask questions, and share travel tips. This is a great way to get to know your group before you embark on your adventure.

Is it cheaper to travel in a group?

Surprisingly, traveling on a guided-group tour can be more cost-effective than traveling solo on your own, as you can split the cost of some optional activities with the group as you go. Most transfers, meals, and organized activities are also included in your booking costs, which can add up quickly if you’re traveling alone, especially if you’re looking to explore remote locations.

This is a great trip if you like your wildlife. Make sure you bring the best camera/lens that you have got as you can get some amazing photographs. Having said that there are a few things that could be better: – Tortuguero is famous for its turtles. We didn’t see any even though we went to the beach around dawn both mornings we were there. Subsequently we found out that you can go on a local guide tour overnight, they then liaise with other guides to share where the turtles are (it is a long beach) to give you the best chance of seeing them. You may have to ask about it at the Lodge about booking a guide – Manuel Antonio. Likewise a local guide would help find more of the wildlife here, as they know the area & have the required spotting scopes – Savegre. To see the Quetzal (which is the main reason for going there, & is spectacular) again, you need a local guide to take you to the right area. These can be booked via the hotel Hopefully Exodus will include these local guides/trips going forward as I have shared this feedback with them. We enjoyed the coffee/chocolate tour at La Fortuna, where you get to make your own chocolate (you need to add a lot of sugar otherwise it’s very bitter !) We also did a night trip to see more frogs & other night animals while at Manuel Antonio which was good

Wow! If it’s adventure you are after, then you’ve come to the right place. Iceland has so much to offer, not only the Northern Lights. There are glacier hikes, caving, surfing, whale watching to name a few activities in Iceland. For the not so physical, there are beautiful waterfalls and amazing landscapes that are breathtaking to say the least. If you have never been to Iceland and you’re contemplating it, do it! You won’t regret it.

This trip was a fantastic way to explore more of Cuba and learn about it’s history and culture from locals! The cycling was great overall, there were some hills that were tougher – especially with the humidity and being directly under the sun, but very rewarding. There were lots of long stretches on the trip where we could all cycle at our own pace and so many locals coming out of their homes and shops to wave while we cycled by. I especially loved the views on day 11 cycling along the coast to Cienfuegos! Lunch at the farm on day 13 was definitely the best meal we had while on the trip, but in general, I was surprised with the food options we had for many of our meals. The itinerary was also jam packed with different activities, I absolutely loved our beach day in Trinidad and the classic car tour of Havana was so much fun!
