Halong Bay

Halong Bay Trips

Halong Bay, a World Heritage site where giant limestone peaks rise from emerald waters, is perhaps the star attraction in Vietnam. The name means ‘where the dragon descends into the sea’, and legend has is that a dragon came down from the sky, spraying a thousand pearls into the water. From those pearls grew the staggering limestone pinnacles and crags of the bay, creating a natural fortress to protect Vietnam. Many visitors join Halong Bay tours to sail among the islands in Chinese-style junk boats, gliding across the waters under dragon-fin sails and sleeping the night on board. Come sunset, everyone can gather on deck for a sundowner, while morning offers the opportunity for a spot of yoga in a peaceful, magnificent setting.

We have been to Vietnam before but this time felt we saw so much more by doing it in a group with a guide . This was a really good mix of cycling and sightseeing . We went to places we would never have found on our own . It was incredibly hot cycling but there are plenty of drinks stops and you start early every day to minimize the heat . There are some long transfers but the bus is good and worth it to see more of the county . The organisation is very slick compared to other exodus trips we have done . The hotel in Saigon is in a good location I recommend arriving a day early so you can see more of the city and stay a day at the end so you see more of Hanoi . We eat out at some great local restaurants and the food was so good and cheap – all organized by our guide . Hotels were all good as well .

This trip is about experiencing all that this amazing country has to offer. Vietnamese cuisine is amazing, the people are kind and the cycling is varied cycling from the city streets, to rural roads and national parks. I am used to riding in the city and surprisingly, some of my favourite highlights were the few short sections riding through the city (Dalat, Hue). Seeing our group weaving around some locals on motorbikes was really fascinating.
